Photo Independent 2015 Closes with Strong Attendance and Sales

More than 5,000 collectors and photo enthusiasts attended the 3-­‐day fair, which opened with a benefit for the Colburn School. “I’m really pleased with the growth of PHOTO INDEPENDENT. The selection process for exhibitors was quite competitive this year and is reflected in the works on view. The collector response has been very positive,“ states Chris Davies, founder of PHOTO INDEPENDENT. PHOTO INDEPENDENT launched two new sections at the 2015 show. PHOTOBOOK INDEPENDENT provided an opportunity for limited edition and small run publishing houses to have direct connection with an enthusiastic audience committed to supporting photography. PHOTO CONTEMPORARY, a section devoted to galleries, presented a curated selection of works from artists across the globe, and the option to connect with new photographic talent from PHOTO INDEPENDENT. “We’ve had some excellent response and good sales in the PHOTO CONTEMPORARY section. The opening night was fantastic and there has been steady interest,” said Camilla Birkeland, Director of the Queensland Center for Photography. Numerous sales were reported during the course of the show including works by artists Mark Holzman, Tami Bahat and Anne Schlueter, as well as pieces from bG Gallery & the Queensland Center for Photography. PHOTO INDEPENDENT is juried to showcase the best works available from the world’s most exciting photographic talent. The 2015 Selection Committee is comprised of: Graham Howe, Curator & photo historian; curator Sarah Lee; Maurice Ortega, Director of Exhibitions at Curatorial Assistance; Eve Schillo, Curatorial Assistant in the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) and Debra Weiss, Curator & Creative Consultant. The 2015 edition of PHOTO INDEPENDENT featured a special exhibition, Scott Caan: Photographs. Over the past decade, Scott Caan has garnered a reputation as an outstanding photographer. Inspired and mentored by cinematographer Phil Parmet, Caan developed a passion for photography in 2003 while directing his first film “Dallas 362”. PHOTO INDEPENDENT will return in May, 2016.
