- - RACING IN AUSTRALASIA - - - ASBK to Support ASX in NT
NT Motorsport fans will be in heaven when Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway hosts the QBE Australian
Superbike Championships (ASBK) and round one of the Australian Supercross Championships from September
12-15.
The event will mark the first ever venture to the Northern Territory for the Australian Supercross
Championship and alongside the ASBK racing there will also be demonstrations from Australia’s leading
freestyle motocross riders and a host of entertainment and fun for the whole family.
Yarrive Konsky, Director of IEG, said his team was excited at the opportunity to bring the two premier racing
disciplines together in one major event. “The Northern Territory loves its motorsport and has been so
receptive to the Australian Superbike Championship,” said Konsky. “We are determined to take two-wheeled
events to another level in the Top End and are excited to announce that both Championships will be held on
the same weekend,a first for our industry.”
“The staging of Supercross alongside the MotoGP last year was an international success, and we’ll build upon
this formula for our visit in September so the event will mark the opening round of the Supercross season, and
the exciting and all-important closing stages of the Superbikes.” Konsky added.
David White, CEO of Motorcycling Australia, said the combination of two dynamic disciplines in one event
would make for a great spectacle. “The ASBK and the Australian Supercross Championship are two of our
premier motorcycle sport competitions, and we are thrilled that IEG will deliver both of these in Darwin this
year,” said White. “Having road race and Supercross events run alongside one another is a dynamic
combination for spectators and riders, we saw this in action at the MotoGP in Phillip Island last year and we
can’t wait to see it again in Darwin this September.”
“The double program in Darwin will be a great chance for our Northern Territory spectators and enthusiasts to
get down to the track and see two very different disciplines of motorcycle sport at the one venue." White
continued. “Some fans may come for the road racing action, and some may come for the Supercross, but all of
them will see some of our top Australian riders out on track doing what they do best," he concluded

Northern Territory and joining with the ASBK in one marquee event. “The Australian Supercross Championship
had a great debut season and it is awesome to see that IEG are stepping it up with the 2013 plans,” said

bringing the sport live to a whole new audience.
"It is such a great concept having both the ASBK and Supercross on the one weekend - this is a weekend not to
be missed for any motorcycle racing fan, I have never been to Darwin but I have heard it is a really great place
and is home to everything I am into so I am really looking forward to heading up there later this year.”
Marmont added.

21 year-old Josh Cachia will ride the Carlton Dry Honda CRF250R in the 2013 MX Nationals and ASX with the
desire to ‘smoke everyone’.
“You know, we’re pretty much like family and I’m just super excited to get on the bike actually,” said Cachia. “I
know the Honda is such a good bike, I mean I saw Eli Tomac’s bike handle things I’d never seen before so on
one side I’m really excited to develop the bike with Chris Woods and I’m looking forward to the change, it’s a
breath of fresh air, I was getting a bit stale on the KTM, so a change never hurts. I just want to bring on this
year with some really good results, actually, I really just want to smoke everyone.”
“It’s not so much been great for results, but more so for life experience,” Cachia said of his recent trip to the
Sates where he contested the opening few round of the AMA 250SX West series. “This year has been amazing.
I went over to America, lived there for six months and I raced the world’s best! I became friends with some of
the world’s best and met some really cool people in the industry.
Cachia’s official debut with the Carlton Dry Honda team will be at Raymond Terrace’s season-opener of the
2013 MX Nationals on Sunday the 14th of April.

- - Andrew Short Signs with BTO Sports KTM
Arlington was Andrew Short’s last ride as a privateer Honda rider after it was announced that BTO Sports KTM
signed the veteran for the remainder of the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross series and the full AMA Outdoor
National series.
“I’m very excited to have Andrew Short on board and riding for our team” says BTO Sports owner Vince
Arimitsu. “This brings the BTO Sports KTM team to another level with two solid riders in the top ten”
It will be a busy week at the KTM test track as Short will begin racing with the BTO Sports next week at the
Atlanta Supercross.
- - AMSOIL Arenacross Round 7 - Verizon Arena - Little Rock, AR
Only in America can they re-set the points after six rounds of racing but that is what they did for the final five
rounds of the 2013 Amsoil Arenacross Championships. Tyler Bowers had a HUGE points lead up until the re-set
and now sits third in the championship after going 4-8 at Little Rock.

- - RACING IN EUROPE - - - Italian Motocross Championships – Pietramurata - Round 3
Red Bull KTM rider Jeffrey Herlings put on a masterclass as he not only won his MX2 moto, but also beat the
leading MX1 riders to win the superfinal in the last round of the Italian Championships. Herlings beat home
Steven Frossard by around a second and was another 10 seconds ahead of third placed Ken De Dycker.
Earlier in the day World MX1 Champion Antonio Cairoli won the MX1 moto from Frossard and De Dycker, his
winning margin four seconds. Cairoli failed to finish the Superfinal, but with the victory by Herlings the
excitement for the opening Grand Prix of the season in Doha, Qatar is mounting.
The senior titles at the Italian International MX Championship were safe in Orange hands when the threeround series concluded on Sunday at the northern Italian circuit of Arco di Trento with Tony Cairoli picking up
both the MX1 and the Elite silverware.
MX 1 teammate Ken De Dycker finished second in the MX1 championship and third in the Elite class while
Jeffrey Herlings had a great start to his season, winning both the MX2 and the Elite race in his only appearance
in the series.
Cairoli started the day with style with a great win in the 17-lap MX1 race, winning from Frenchman Steven
Frossard by almost four seconds. Teammate De Dycker finished fourth giving both riders enough accrued
points in the series to be 1-2 in the championship.
Then Herlings celebrated his return to the international circuit with a dominant victory in the MX2 class,
crossing the line 28 seconds (!) ahead of eventual title winner Christophe Charlier of France and his KTM
factory teammate Jordi Tixier in third. Herlings and Tixier only raced in Rd. 3. They were due to compete at the
Hawkstone International in the UK, but the race was canceled because of bad weather. Herlings then
continued his charge in the Elite race facing off against teammate Cairoli. The Italian had a comfortable lead
on his KTM 350 SX-F and seemed set to deliver a perfect double. He had a comfortable lead through to the
thirteenth of seventeen laps but then got tangled with a back marker and had to retire with a broken
gearshift. Herlings, showing little respect for the rest of the MX1 riders in the field, then went on to win on his
KTM 250 SX-F in front of Frossard. De Dycker took third and Tixier finished in ninth place.
Cairoli came away more than satisfied and said the series had been very good for him except for two small
incidents. In Rd. 2 in Malagrotta he got a stone wedged in his rear brake and today there was the incident with
the back marker. “I tried to pass him but just as I was going past he move out and I hit his back wheel with the
gear shift. I tried to keep going but in the end I had to stop. I knew it was okay for the championship. It is also a
long time since I rode on this type of gravel surface but lap-by-lap I got used to it. It was good to race here
because this is a venue where we will have a GP this season.”
Ken De Dycker had been ill this week and was not at the top of his game but he said he feels very confident

ahead of the GP season. “It was nice to have three rounds on completely different surfaces and I think we are
ready for the first GP. This year I have had the best training and I feel stronger and fitter than ever before,
especially with the new bike.” De Dycker rides the KTM 450 SX-F
Jeffrey Herlings: “I haven’t been so happy with my pre-season preparations but today was great and I know
I’m always there when the gate drops. I’m glad to have won the MX2 race by almost half a minute and also to
win the Elite race even though it was because Tony had some bad luck. Now it’s two weeks of hard training
before the first GP.” KTM Team managers Claudio de Carli and Stefan Everts were also satisfied with their teams ahead of the
season.
Claudio De Carli said it had been very good to have three races close together and on three different surfaces.
“This is very useful for the riders because we will have these conditions in the GPs this season. The first race in
Sardinia was on sand. Then there was the hard pack of Malagrotta and now the gravel in Arco di Trento, which
was very different and had not much grip. I am very happy with the races and with the pre season preparation.
Today was the reward for all the hard work the riders have done.”
Stefan Everts said he was happy with his two MX2 riders’ performance at Arco. “Jeffrey had two solid races
and two good wins today. Jordi struggled with his confidence on the gravel surface, which was very slippery
but I have confidence in him for the season and at the end of the day I am happy with the both.”
The Red Bull KTM Factory team will now prepare for the opening races of the 2013 World Championship
season to be held on March 1, for the first time in Qatar and under lights.

Kawasaki’s Gautier Paulin has dominated the annual Valence International Motocross with two wins in the
MX1 motos rides while KTM’s Jake Nicholls made short work of the MX2 field as well – both riders will carry a
lot of confidence as they head to the opening round of the MX World Champs in a few weeks time.

Paulin pulled out of the Superfinal handing Clement Desalle the overall win on the day so Kawasaki’s press
release says that Paulin dominated the MX1 class while Suzuki’s press release says that Desalle has won the
day….whatever!!

- - Hell’s Gate Hard Enduro
Graham Jarvis has become the most successful rider ever at the infamous Hell’s Gate Hard Enduro event,
delivering a dominant performance to secure victory at the 10th running of the race.
Jarvis notched up a third consecutive win finishing comfortably ahead of Jonny Walker with Cody Webb third.
For the first time in the 10-year history of the event the Italian mountains were covered in deep snow,
something that provided riders with additional challenges. With the course eased a little due to the adverse
conditions the four lap main race ended with Husaberg the only manufacturer to see two of its riders make it
to the top of Hell’s Peak – the arduous final climb of the race.
Placing second in the morning’s qualifying event Jarvis finished just 15 seconds behind winner Jonny Walker,
ensuring a front row position for the all-important main event.
Doing his best to preserve his energy, Jarvis managed to post the fastest time on the third and final special
test. With thick snow covering much of the course the morning race proved to be anything but easy.
Intent on remaining behind Walker during the opening lap of the main event Jarvis found himself leading the
race a little sooner than he’d hoped. Forced to carve a line through the snow in numerous sections of the
course, Jarvis was nevertheless able to power his way up the many rocky river beds and in doing so instantly
started to pull away from his rivals.
“I was happy to follow Jonny from the start of the main race,” explained Graham shortly after his podium
celebrations. “I was riding behind him ok and in no hurry to pass him, but he made a mistake and I went to the
front of the race.
It was hard because I was putting in the line in the snow. The rivers were surprisingly grippy, which is where I
think I managed to make my time.

In the snow you just had to try and keep things in a straight line, you couldn’t push hard at all.”
Initially a five-lap race the organiser’s decision to reduce it to four laps was met by relief from the competitors.
Continuing to push hard Jarvis held a commanding lead at the end of the second lap, stopping briefly to refuel
before once again attacking the course. Crashing just once, Jarvis, who earlier this year topped The Tough
One, maintained his relentless pace to start the final lap all but assured of the win.
With darkness beginning to fall as Graham arrived at the base of the final climb it took two attempts for the
Husaberg TE 300 mounted rider to get close to the half way point of the climb.
Pushed, pulled, and dragged upwards by the enthusiastic group of spectators gathered close to the finish,
Jarvis finally reached the end of the race 12 minutes ahead of second placed Walker and clearly overjoyed to
have claimed yet another Hell’s Gate win.
“It’s an incredible feeling to have won at Hell’s Gate for the third time. I really wasn’t expecting it and because
of the conditions I didn’t know how things would work out, or how the other riders would do." Jarvis
explained.
"Once I got into the lead everything went really well. The morning race was quite hard. The snow meant that
some of the easier sections of the track from previous years were really tough, it also meant that I used a bit
more energy than I hoped to.
"Jonny Walker was fast, like I expected him to be, but finishing second and not too far behind was good. “
"I had two goes at the final hill and didn’t even get anywhere near half way. I was screaming to the spectators
to start pulling me because I’ve lost the race on the last hill before," he continued.
"It seemed to take forever to get to the top but once I got a rope on my bike I knew I was safe. It’s a great
achievement to have three wins, but I hope I can add to that. I’ve really enjoyed the race this year and will be
back next year.” Jarvis concluded.
Jarvis won by 12 minutes and 17 seconds ahead of British rider Walker who needed medical attention on the
podium. Beta Factory rider Webb was a further five minutes back in third position.
