editorial:
Imagine a lush green landscape on the shores of the Mediterranean.
An area entirely focussed on recreation. An area where the sun shines more than three
hundred days a year.
Located beachside in the heart of the “Petite Camargue”, La Grande Motte invites you
to get away from it all.
If you’re looking for wide open spaces, this is the place for you.
The greenest resort in Europe, three-quarters of it occupied by Mother Nature, is
more like a park than a town.
Still very much in fashion, its 1970’s architecture inspired by the pyramids of Mexico is a
hymn to light and sunshine.
This is a sparkling town, attentive to its visitors, providing entertainment, festivities
and leisure activities.
This is more than a mere holiday destination; it’s a town with a great quality of life,
waiting just for you.
This short booklet is just a foretaste of the enjoyment awaiting you here.
It takes time to get know and love La Grande Motte.
Why not take a look?
The Mayor and his team.
Welcome

of a sense of true well-being, whether you
prefer an early morning run, a cycle trip, some
sailing, a spot of golf or some pampering at the
thalassotherapy centre. Everything is possible
because everything is here, on the spot!
The easy access to La Grande Motte is another feature
of its charm, whether you come via the A9 or A75
motorways or through the “Mediterranean”
airport (10 minutes from the town centre). And the
TGV high-speed train takes you to and from Paris
in just 3 hrs. 15 mins.
rom a bird’s eye view, the town is like A GREEN
OASIS WITH A BLUE FRINGE, with its tall white
pyramids as its main feature.
F
This is a Southern French town, on the seafront,
a unique town, reminiscent of a dream. Jean
Balladur’s visionary architecture sought inspiration
in nature, from the outline of the Pic Saint Loup to
the horizon. It also reflected his awe when faced
with the Inca pyramids in Mexico.
La Grande Motte is an intelligent town, totally
designed as a “town at the beach”, and to encourage
people to take full advantage of it, there are wide
open spaces, terraces and swards of green
parkland, mile upon mile of footpath, a multitude
of carefully designed amenities, high-quality
accommodation, and disabled access to much of the
town’s infrastructure.
This is a real town, a bustling place throughout
the year, an active town where people immediately
feel at ease, encouraged to relax and enjoy some
leisure time, sports and water sports.
This is a privilege to be shared with family or friends,
whether you are a sports fanatic or come in search
Welcome
You can still take advantage of all this, even if you
come here on business.
With its numerous amenities (modular halls,
auditorium, lounge areas and restaurants etc.), the
conference centre (Palais des Congrès) in
La Grande Motte is the ideal venue for a special
event, a congress, a conference or a seminar.

Thrills and excitement
guaranteed at Le Grand Bleu.
HE SEA HAS NEVER
BEEN SO CLOSE TO
YOU. La Grande Motte
with its 7 kilometres
of fine sand is intensely
Mediterranean and water reigns
supreme, in all its forms. The long
stretch of beach gently sloping down to the sea
is ideal for swimming, games for young and old,
and the well-being of parents.
For those looking for good amenities and a
chance to relax, La Grande Motte offers a choice
of 14 beaches with services such as the hire of
mattresses and sunshades and, in some cases,
meals or the hire of pedalos.
With visitors in mind, the beach has beach-volley
equipment, entertainment, sports tournaments
or games just for fun. In fact, there’s something
for everybody at the beach.
On the other side of the town is a lake, the Etang
du Ponant, another venue for water sports
and recreation.
Do you like water? Le Grand Bleu is a vast
pool complex in the heart of the pine
forest with giant flumes, sports,
leisure and adventure pools, a water
slide, a river, a waterfall etc. There
is also a relaxation area with steam
T
room, jacuzzi and sauna. And because there are
outdoor and indoor amenities, visitors can enjoy
the benefits and pleasures of water throughout
the year.
Safety and amenities, beach-side: disabled
access and provision of wheelchairs, water
inspection (European Blue Flag 2005), 3 lifesaver
stations, 15 showers and toilet blocks, sand
cleaned every day etc.
Hard-going for fitness fanatics.

a Grande Motte
is variously and
deservedly described
as THE ENVIRONMENTALE EXEPTION ON THE
COAST and as the “lung of the
coast” and it staunchly defends its
unique personality. Nature is part and parcel of
the town, providing balance, a healthy environment,
amenities and beauty for all those who live and
holiday here.
This “environmental” focus was a test, and a
testament to the imaginers of its founders
and designers. It has enjoyed the
full support of the town for
more than 30 years now,
producing outstanding
surroundings. In fact,
of the town’s 1,500
hectares, 70% consist of
areas free of constructions !
There are, for example, 280
hectares of parks and gardens
(59 hectares of lawn, 22 hectares of meadows,
29 hectares planted with 28,000 trees and shrubs,
33 hectares of flowerbeds and hedges), vast areas
of unspoilt nature covered by conservancy
regulations, the shores of the Etang du Ponant and
4.2 kilometres of sand dunes protected jointly by the
Conservatoire du Littoral (the French coastal
conservancy agency) and the Office National des
Forêts (the French forestry commission).
All these footpaths, grassy banks and open spaces
are the ideal setting in which to “blow away the
cobwebs”, play, take a stroll or relax with the family,
in the midst of refreshing, scent-filled Mediterranean
vegetation that is unfailingly popular.
The “Green Town” has 22 kilometres of footpaths or

cycle tracks leading
to the centre of the
town.
In environmental terms,
nothing is left to chance the air and water are
subject to quality controls, there
is selective waste disposal, the harbour is
clean and the well-appointed beaches are protected
by regulations.
Far from the seaside resorts that resemble concrete
jungles, La Grande Motte is an oasis of greenery and
freshness where life is good and Man
is at one with Nature.
The joys of cycling.
