Brentsville Community,
Spring is definitely here, and with it comes exams, prom, spring awards, and just around the corner—
graduation (see pp. 17-18). Admittedly, this is an exciting time. This also means it is that much easier for
students to lose focus as we near the end of the year. It is imperative we all support them to continue the
level of academic determination and performance they have demonstrated throughout the year. This
support is important both for their coursework and as they prepare for the various assessments throughout
May and June. For a comprehensive look at the spring assessments and all-school activities, please see
pp. 23-24.
Brentsville is honored to work with not only supportive parents and a supportive community, but with the
many businesses that assist us throughout the year. In honor of Business Partnership Appreciation
Month, we have listed many of these businesses with whom we work collaboratively on page 11. We also
have continued support from Chuck Wagon (see p. 7) for our football program. It is my privilege to offer
a huge thank you to all of these businesses, their owners, and patrons.
Some other events for the month of May are:
Wednesday and Thursday, May 1 – 2: Senior surveys (Govt.)
Saturday, May 4: Prom at the KLC, 8 – 11

Appointments with Counseling Staff
The School Counseling Office is open daily for students from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students who wish to meet
with their counselor during the school day are requested to make an appointment by filling out a
Counselor Request form. In the case of an emergency, they should inform Mr. Minor and a staff member
will see them immediately. Parents who need to speak with a counselor may call the counseling office at
703.594.2161 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. It is necessary to make an appointment to meet
with the counselor.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parents should contact the teacher if the request is to meet with a single teacher. Parents wishing to meet
with more than one of their student’s teachers, should contact the counselor to coordinate a meeting. Most

PWCS High School Transcript Fee Guidelines
Effective 9/18/2012 Per PWCS Regulation 790-2
There will be NO CHARGE for the first THREE college applications and accompanying transcripts
requested for the school year. Beyond the first three, there will be a $5.00 charge per college application
for all applications with accompanying transcripts.
Scholarship and NCAA Clearinghouse transcripts = NO charge
** Any student who has been granted a fee waiver for the SAT, ACT, or a specific college application may
request a transcript fee waiver at the school level. BDHS will deal with unique and extenuating
circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Scholarships
Please encourage your seniors to investigate scholarship opportunities. These are posted on:
http://www.pwcs.edu, the BDHS website (under Counseling), and announcements are made at school.
SAT
All college bound seniors and juniors, please pay close attention to registration deadlines for the SAT I and
SAT II. Any senior interested in applying to a four-year college, who did not take the SAT in the spring,
should register for the March administration. Many colleges require certain SAT II subject area tests and it
is important for interested applicants to be prepared! Please check with your counselor if you have any
questions. Registration materials are available in the guidance office or you may register online at:
www.collegeboard.com.
There is a new SAT reporting score option that is available to students. This option allows students to not
include an SAT test score on the report to colleges. For more information, please see:
www.collegeboard.com.
ACT
The ACT is the other college entrance test, preferred by some universities and accepted by most. The ACT
is often a better match for some students and they often perform better in areas assessed on the ACT than on
the components of the SAT. Students may pick up registration materials in the guidance office or register
online at: www.actstudent.org. Make sure to watch the registration deadlines.

All team members, friends, family, and fans

Model United Nations
What is Brentsville Model United Nations?
A Model United Nations simulates the activities of the Security Council and
various other committees of the United Nations. Each participant assumes the role
of a diplomatic representative of one of the member nations and, through roleplaying, attempts to resolve major issues confronting the world. Topics range from
determining the appropriate UN action to curb international terrorism to achieving
international consensus and implementation on the rights of women. Throughout the school year,
thousands of young people -- in the United States and overseas -- attend Model United Nations conferences
and address those issues confronting the world today. Universities view participation in the Model United
Nations as good preparation for college work.
What does it take to become a member of the Model UN?
While it is generally accepted that many of the international affairs enthusiasts involved in Model United
Nations throughout the globe are destined to be tomorrow's leaders of the world, Model UN is NOT an
"elite" activity for only young people who have demonstrated leadership abilities. A delegation must have
leaders and followers with a wide variety of skills: negotiators, debaters, writers, spokespersons, diplomats,
and experts in military affairs, science, economics, and social issues. The Brentsville Model UN welcomes
students of all abilities and talents. We ask only that you maintain a minimum GPA 2.5 to represent the
school at all official functions and conferences.

you will!
