Administrator’s Corner
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 3, 2016
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ!
First, on behalf of St. Cecilia Church and School, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all fathers
and staff, faculty, councils, organizations, ministry groups, benefactors, and parishioners. We have been journeying together for our first blessed fiscal year together. Please continue to pray for each other and pray for me
that we may have graciously joyful years ahead. Your presence, prayer, love and generosity have benefited our
Church and School. We praise you, Lord!
Tomorrow, we celebrate the 240th birthday of our nation! We pause and give thanks to Almighty God for his
love, joy, and freedom that he bestows upon our nation. May we appreciate the freedom that the Lord gives us
and continue to support our brothers and sisters throughout the world who do not have the basic freedoms to
enjoy. Happy Fourth of July to all!
This week, the valuable lesson for us to put into action is that we are called to continue the preaching mission.
Just as Jesus, in today’s Gospel, gave instructions to the seventy-two missionaries, he also gives each one of us
a mission to carry out: as faithful Christians, should we attract others to the Faith by leading exemplary lives,
just as a rose attracts people by its beauty and fragrance. God bless!
Peace,
Fr. Bao
MISERICORDIAE VULTUS - BULL OF INDICTION OF
EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
by POPE FRANCIS, BISHOP OF ROME
www.rcbo.org/year-of-mercy/ or www.im.va/content/gdm/en.html
Continuation from last week…
The temptation, on the one hand, to focus exclusively on justice made us forget that this is only the first, albeit
necessary and indispensable step. But the Church needs to go beyond and strive for a higher and more important goal. On the other hand, sad to say, we must admit that the practice of mercy is waning in the wider
culture. In some cases the word seems to have dropped out of use. However, without a witness to mercy, life
becomes fruitless and sterile, as if sequestered in a barren desert. The time has come for the Church to take up
the joyful call to mercy once more. It is time to return to the basics and to bear the weaknesses and struggles of
our brothers and sisters. Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instils in us the courage to look
to the future with hope.
11. Let us not forget the great teaching offered by Saint John Paul II in his second Encyclical, Dives in Misericordia, which at the time came unexpectedly, its theme catching many by surprise. There are two passages
in particular to which I would like to draw attention. First, Saint John Paul II highlighted the fact that we had
forgotten the theme of mercy in today’s cultural milieu: “The present-day mentality, more perhaps than that of
people in the past, seems opposed to a God of mercy, and in fact tends to exclude from life and to remove
from the human heart the very idea of mercy. The word and the concept of ‘mercy’ seem to cause uneasiness
in man, who, thanks to the enormous development of science and technology, never before known in history,
has become the master of the earth and has subdued and dominated it (cf. Gen 1:28).

personal.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
St. Cecilia parish is a living sign of God’s saving Word. We
have been called by God to foster a genuine, caring Catholic
Christian community. God empowers us to be a visible sign of
His Kingdom in the world.
YOU…..THE PARISH NEEDS YOU TO VOLUNTEER!
Fr. Bao and Fr. Wayne and Fr. Agustin invite YOU to please
take a moment to look at the page to your left to see all kinds of
ministries and services we have here at St. Cecilia. Please pray
and talk about it with your family and call these ministry leaders
for more details. You may consider helping out only once a
month, 12 times per year. There is not a lot of commitment
required. Thank you so very much! God bless!
