Cold Spring Harbor Huntington Soccer Club
Mission Statement
The mission of the Cold Spring Harbor Huntington Soccer Club is to promote interest in
the sport of soccer and to provide a positive experience for boys and girls of the
community through athletic recreation in a structured soccer program. To accomplish its
mission, the club provides soccer instruction for children ages 4-19, and organizes
teams and leagues for the participation of children of all ages, genders, and levels of
ability.
In 2012, Cold Spring Harbor Huntington Soccer Club celebrated its thirty-sixth year of
service to the youth of the community, growing from a few hundred to more than 1,100
boys and girls. Our programs are carried out through the efforts of more than 100
volunteers and with the cooperation of two school districts and the Town of Huntington.
President’s Message
Welcome to all of our CSHH LIJSL and SSI Travel players and coaches, their families,
and all of our Board members and volunteers. This is the 24th annual CSHH Travel
Dinner, and it has become one of our favorite Club traditions. As we join together this
evening, nearly 700 strong, to enjoy some fun, friendship, video montages, prizes, and a
nice meal, please take a moment at some point to give a thought to those for whom 2012
was a difficult, even catastrophic, year. The thoughts and prayers of our Club members
are with them, now and always.
2012, while difficult in many ways, also had many high points. Several of our teams
won their divisions or won sportsmanship awards. Our Club had the use of Breezy for
the full year, and most of our teams practiced and played their games at this wonderful
facility. We continued to grow our relationship with Challenger Sports, which provided
our professional Director and Assistant Director of Coaching, and also coordinated two
tremendous summer camps, which were attended by two hundred players, for us. Our
Club came together in the aftermath of Sandy and collected nearly a thousand articles of
clothing, many bins of food, and tons of cleaning supplies for our fellow Long Islanders
in need. Please know that you all have my, and the Board’s, gratitude for all of your
help with that project.
Our Club is also experiencing a wonderful first and a tremendous honor. Please join me
in offering a hearty ‘Congratulations!’ to Bob Porter, who has just been named to the
LIJSL Hall of Fame! Bob is our Club’s first ever member of the Hall, and his
recognition is richly deserved. Bob has served our Club in every capacity: he has
coached three separate teams all the way from U-10 through U-19; he is our long-time
Travel Coordinator; he has served as our Club President, Registrar, Field Coordinator,
game scheduler, field liner, and keeper of the Crock; and he has held virtually every
volunteer position that anyone can name. So again, please join me in congratulating and
thanking Bob for all that he has done and all that he continues to do on behalf of our
children.
Finally, a note of special thanks to Sue Healy, Sean Cullen, and all of the volunteers
who have worked so tirelessly to make this evening’s Travel Dinner both a reality and a
tremendous success. This is our largest endeavor of the year, and they truly make it
special for all of our players.
Have a wonderful season, and I’ll see you on the fields.
Dan Friel
Famous Soccer Quotes
Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying,
sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.
-Pele
Failure happens all the time. It happens every day in practice. What makes
you better is how you react to it.
-Mia Hamm
The rules of soccer are very simple, basically it is this: if it moves, kick it. If it
doesn't move, kick it until it does.
-Phil Woosnam
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
-Roy Keane
The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at
the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching.

It was a year filled with fun and transition for the Arsenal. We said good-bye to 9 players as they
moved on to other teams or retired and welcomed 7 new players onto the team.
The boys worked hard and never quit, learning the game and getting to know each other. They are
already hard at work preparing for the spring season.
The Arsenal represent everything CSHH Soccer is about, they enjoy playing the game and enjoy
playing with each other, they respect the game and their opponents, they do their best to win but
winning is not the most important thing, it’s the good times with their friends and the memories they
will all share. The parents are supportive and cheer their sons on. This positive environment earned
the Arsenal the LIJSL Sportsmanship Award this past fall.
These young men should be extremely proud of themselves for how they represented their families,
club and community both on and off the field.

The calendar year 2012 brought the usual mix of good and not so good. The Comets had a very good
Spring. We finished with a record of 6 Wins 3 Losses. That was good for a 3rd place finish and a
promotion to Division 5. As so often happens when players move on to high school, players move on
to other things, teams fold and chaos reigns supreme. The Comets were not without our losses. Three
original Comets (Sergei Brower, Gus Kasper and Tommy Kopstein) along with Loizos Mihael all left
the team. We also lost the services of Anne Brower-Dubosque as co-coach. Anne spent a good number
of years with the club and her absence is felt. As the fall season approached, many teams in the age
group folded and we were able to complement our roster with players from some disbanded teams. We
started off the season with an opening day win but then proceeded to drop three straight. After a key
defensive change, we turned our season around and were able to finish out with three consecutive
victories. The highlight of these was a road win at Manorville where an undermanned squad gave an
effort that went above and beyond, enabling us to win the match. Unfortunately the season came to an
abrupt end when Super Storm Sandy unleashed her fury on our area. The squad is anxiously looking
forward to getting back on the pitch and continuing our upward climb.

The Dragons had a fabulous spring and won the division with a 7-1-1 record. They had 22 goals for
versus 11 goals against; the latter was best in the division. Interestingly, the team was moved into
Nassau County so we played all new teams and enjoyed our home games at Breezy.
The team was placed in Division 2 for the fall with the combined Nassau and Suffolk counties and
finished 3-3-1 in the shortened season. Defense remained strong with the team only giving up 6 goals,
2nd best in the division. The losses were all 1 goal differences so we look forward to the spring 2013.
The boys practice hard and we continue to partner with a strong Coastal trainer, Justin Thomson. The

Wow, what an amazing Fall 2012 season the Dynamite Dribblers had. What seems to have become an
established pattern each season, the Dribblers were off to a slow start early on and after losing the first two
games narrowly, the Dynamite Dribblers hit their strides and remained unbeaten in the remaining five games,
ending the season with an impressive W-3, D-2, L-2 record. Having won their last three games and with two
more games remaining, Dribblers were looking to end the season on a higher note, but unfortunately due to the
hurricane Sandy, the season ended abruptly and early.
The Dynamite Dribblers have been together for over three years, having come a long way during this time. They
started off with an impressive run in the Intramural’s in Fall 2010 and leap frogged to the Travel League during
the spring of 2011. Continuing their impressive run, the Dribblers were joined by seven new girls (Adina,
Whitney, Avery, Emma, Juliana, Katherine and Mia) in Fall 2012. These girls adjusted so well with the rest of
the girls that it made coaching them a pleasure and they all performed admirably. The girls seem to be getting
better with each outing and have matured into a well-oiled unit where each girl knows her role. The spirit,
camaraderie and togetherness is best exemplified by the fact that four of the players were offered to move up to
a team ranked higher, but they refused the promotion and instead decided to remain with Dynamite Dribblers.
With each girl knowing her role, the forwards were admirably led by Maire Brown, Aina Khan, Mary Carbone,
Mia Richards, Whitney Lynn and Katherine Degennaro. They kept the opposition under constant pressure and
ended up scoring 15 goals during the short season. Each girl built up on the momentum created by the
midfielders Avery Bell, Kelly Gallagher, Christiana De Luca, Madelaine Emsden and Lily Bailenson. The
midfielders constantly created opportunities for the offense and supported the defense quite well. The defense
was reinforced by the addition of Adina, Emma and Juliana, even though Juliana injured her foot early on in the
season and could not continue. Adina and Emma were complimented by the consistent Lauren Glupe and Kelly
Warren. The strong defense kept repulsing attacks and formed a tough defensive line up that was not easy to
crack. Last but not the least, the goal was tended by Julia Grossman and she did a remarkable job in thwarting
multiple attacks and without her skills and never say die attitude, we would not have produced an impressive
record. We look forward to another exciting season in the spring of 2013.
The team is blessed to have Nicole Brunder as a trainer, whom the girls love. Thanks to Brett Emsden and Rob
Bailenson for stepping up to help with practice sessions. Lastly, thanks to all the parents for their support.

The Cold Spring Harbor Dynamite had another record-setting season in Division 1-A+, finishing at 25-3 and
tying the 1993 squad (captained by Richard "Richie" Scarlutti, who later went on to fame and fortune as the host
of the short-lived ESPN show "Soccer Dads") for most wins in a season. All players contributed in their own
special way to the team's success, including (in no particular order) Nat, Anton, Dean, John, Eddie (Eduardo on
ESPN Deportes), Kevin, James, (hey, that's Kevin James like from King of Queens!), Chris M., JD,Tony, Chris
P., Elijah, Connor, Aidan, Erik, Thomas (don't call him Tommy), and, from the practice squad Freddie "the
Flash."
The Dynamite also dominated the tournament scene, having been awarded first place in the Coney Island
Classic after the "Massachusetts" team was disqualified when it was discovered they were actually Brazil's U-18
team. The Dynamite used their $5,000 prize money to purchase a 1/50th share in a Gulfstream G550, which they
used to fly from MacArthur Airport in Islip to Republic Airport in Farmingdale to appear as guests of honor at
the grand opening of the Courtyard by Marriott in Seaford. While in Coney Island, 15 team members rode the
Cyclone (another U13 record) and Dean Toomey lost to Joey Chestnut in a one-on-one hot dog eating contest at
Nathan's, 62 - 57 1/4. Oddly enough, Dean missed the next game. Late in the season, DefJam Universal signed
the team to an exclusive three album recording contract, and they are scheduled to tour in the summer of 2013,
with One Direction and Demi Lovato as the tentative opening acts. The team's first album, "Dynamighty", is
scheduled to drop April 31st.
A highlight of the season was a personal clinic with former NY-NJ Red Bulls Captain Seth Stammler, who
shared his valuable insight on topics such as "Dealing with Soccer Groupies" and "Eating on less than $3 per
Day". The team's notoriety led them to an exclusive endorsement deal with Adidas - their "Soccer
Skull" trademark is now officially registered in over 219 countries. This past December while on tour in the
U.K., the team had a private audience with Princess Kate Middleton, whom they serenaded with their Grammynominated a capella version of Judy Collins' "Send In The Clowns".
A rough road lies ahead for the Dynamite, who open the spring season with three consecutive road games
against the NY-NJ Red Bulls, the Miami Monster Energy Drinks, and the Minnesota Mountain Dew-Dews
before returning home to Breezy to host their arch-rival Levittown Rage. The team motto "Play Like You're
In First, Practice Like You're In Second, Eat Like You're In Third, Brush Your Teeth Like You're In Fourth, and
Chew Gum Like You're In Fifth" is a credo we can all live by. The boys would like to thank their coaches
Geoff, Ed, and Dave (listed in your programs as Manny, Moe and Jack and portrayed in the PBS Docu-drama
"Life On the Pitch" as Moe, Larry, and Curly) for another wildly successful season. VIVE LE DYNAMITE!

The mighty Falcons had a fall 2012 season to be very proud of. Once again, we won the LIJ division
Sportsmanship Award. As repeat winners, we’re pretty sure it isn’t luck! We finished with a 5-2-0
record, tied for second in our division. The secret of our success is the strong bond the boys have,
unselfish play, Dave McCarthy’s training, great and supportive parents and dedicated coaches Linda,
Kevin and Frank. We look forward to the spring season know we’ll meet our, ahem, goals.

Firecracker, Firecracker, Boom, Boom, Boom!
It was an explosive season as two teams came together to form an all new and amazing Firecrackers!
The girls started the season with many close games and a couple of ties but it wasn't until our final
game that we were able to celebrate an exciting victory. The Firecrackers then ended our season
playing in a tournament benefitting Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Doing good and having fun! All
the hard work at practice (and especially the running) put in with trainers Megan and Chiara
throughout the season really paid off in the end. The Firecrackers are fired up and ready to continue
working hard, having fun, and winning games in the spring.

With 10 roster changes this year, the Hawks took the field this season with an entirely different look.
After working out a few kinks early on, the girls really came together and formed a very dynamic
team. The Hawks were undefeated in the Fall Season posting a 4-0-2 record. They also had the
stingiest defense in the Division allowing only 3 goals. With all 20 players returning and the likelihood
we’ll be moving to a higher Division, we are very much looking forward to the Spring Season.

The Heat began the 2012 Fall season with very high expectations. In order to keep the team together
we needed to play in the U-16 division which meant that 75% of our players would be playing up. The
team had gone through some player changes as well as a coaching change. What remained constant
was the girls determination to remain competitive along with entering the season with Dave McCarthy
our trainer who has trained the girls for the last several years We entered the HBC Labor Day
tournament to play 4 games over two days with the intention of just getting the girls familiar with each
other. The girls played exceptionally well and went into the final game 3-0. Our opponent in the 4th
game was a National East Regional Premier team. Oddly enough we were winning 1-0 with 5 minutes
remaining in the game and lost 2-1. Coming in second place was a real testament to the team
toughness and the younger kids stepping up in a big way. That’s pretty much how the season ended.
With injuries and players having multiple obligations on weekends we played shorthanded on several
occasions. Our record was not an indication of our effort. Several times we had been winning games
against the teams leading our division only to fall late in games. I was really proud of our girls and the
way in which they handled themselves. We had a great group of girls and I look forward to them using
the experiences on the soccer field someday in real life.

The Hurricanes enjoyed a thrilling Fall season that proved to be very competitive and challenging.
Under the excellent guidance of our trainer, Nick Handby, the Hurricanes quickly accepted the
addition of another middie into their games this past season. With an extra player on the field, the girls
worked extremely hard to quickly develop a passing game, which provided a lot of excitement for their
fans on game day. Meanwhile, each player continued to improve their foot skills and receive the ball
with better technique. And every weekend, our players found the heart and courage to play a very
physical game. By season's end, which unfortunately came too soon, almost every league game was
decided by a single goal or ended in a tie. And the Hurricanes played even tougher in the three
tournaments they entered this fall.
The coaches and parents congratulate the Hurricanes for being a great team and having a successful
fall season. We look forward to watching their continued progress through the upcoming spring
season.

The Hurricanes fall season was a memorable one. Win or lose there was always laughter and smiles.
The season started with us welcoming many new players. We also welcomed our new assistant coach,
Juliet Garber and our new trainer Charley. Overall we had a strong season. Our team was very
competitive, winning most of our games.
The girls are thankful to our full-time goalie Kaitlyn Camacho. Kaitlyn made some of the most
amazing saves this coach has ever seen. Kaitlyn was supported by a strong defense in front of her. Two
of our new players, Paige Lennon and Olivia Hannigan made huge contributions playing middle
defenders. By the middle of the season both girls were feared by all those that tried to come down the
middle. Cagey veterans Molly Tuohy, Alvery Pusey and Remy Toscano continued to excel as outside
defenders. It was a thing of beauty to watch these 3 girls work the ball to the outside and send passes to
our outside midfielders. Great going girls!
Our midfield play was stellar all around. On the wings we had Madeline Haughwout, Isabella Fox and
Jacqueline Callinan. Madeline mastered her inside/outside move and left many a defender in her dust.
Isabella worked harder than anyone and was always in the middle of the action. Jackie was focused on
one thing - going to the far post and it paid off on more than one occasion. Our center midfielders
Katelyn Damelio, Sophie Dellacave, and the ever versatile Julia Viscusi played stellar all year.
Katelyn’s left-footed shot was deadly and brought several opposing players to tears. Sophie went from
never playing organized soccer to becoming a confident and dependable midfielder. Julia, as always,
played wherever I needed her the most. She didn’t care where she played as long as she was in the
game. Thanks Julia!
All of our forwards had outstanding seasons. It was difficult to decide who to put in as all four could
score at will. Alie Flaherty and Harley Weiss were my "rocks", team players all the way, attacking the
goal when they were at forward and spelling some of the other girls at other positions when needed.
Annalise Giuffrida and Rebecca Wong were a scoring tandem. Rebecca had “Moves Like Jagger” and
Annalise had the determination and focus to do what ever she wanted.
A great season, Lets do it again!

In reflecting on this challenging season for the LadyHawks all we need to do is look at the first game
to see who they are. On the road at Northport we gave up 2 quick goals and didn’t know what hit us.
But before the fans and opposing team knew what hit them the LadyHawks rallied and came back to
pull ahead 3-2. Unfortunately with minutes left we couldn’t hold on and lost the game 4-3. When the
whistle blew the girls ran off the field heads held high and so excited to be part of that game. Of course
they were disappointed not to win but the excitement they showed and how they played with such
heart it was an honor to coach these girls. What I remember most from that game is how they displayed
the true joy of this game, something they did week in and week out. The coaches would like to take
this time and thank the girls for that. The team, coaches and trainer are confident that as we head into
the spring season there is reason for hope, we will have fun and we will win! Put it in the books!

The Fall 2012 season brought a new look to the team with the addition of six new players. Every game
was a well played match as the boys became acquainted with the full sized fields both at Breezy Park
and on the road. With each game the boy’s improvement as individuals and as a team became more
evident. The attitude both in competition and practice made being on the sidelines enjoyable for the
coaches and parents. We are looking forward to an exciting spring season with the boys.
On a side note; the coaches would also like to thank all of the parents for their support and great
attitude at each and every game.

The U11 Lightning Bolts enjoyed their fall season. With many new players on the team, as well as
new coaches, the beginning of the season was spent getting to know one another. By the time
Hurricane Sandy hit they had learned to work well together and had some competitive games. Special
mention goes to our leading goal scorer Ethan Mulroy as well as offensive powerhouse Jason Verville.
Our defense, led by Aaron Stein, Nicholas Mehran and goalie Justin Stevens, deserves credit. All the
boys did a wonderful job, improving greatly over the course of the season. Unfortunately the season
was cut short, but they are looking forward to the spring.
We would like to thank all of the parents who donated their time and/or soccer knowledge to the team,
especially David Harvey, David Benedict, Gary Mackiewicz, Alex Mehran and Laura Stein.

The Metrostars’ season got off to a bumpy start even before the season began, not knowing whether we had enough boys to
field a team. However, the parents and the coaches remained committed and we were able to pull together 13 wonderful
team players. Given the short roster, our team had to play with few if any subs but the boys hung in there. They
enthusiastically rotated positions to give their middies a break and they graciously accepted help from the other team when
we were a man down. Despite all the challenges the team showed up to play hard, have fun and improve their skills every
week. Our record does not reflect the enthusiasm and commitment they brought to bear. Starting with our goalies - Tim
Low was always willing to give up the body to make the save, Eric Gaitings was there to play goal and give Tim a chance
to show his stuff on the field and Gerard Federici stepped in goal whenever needed. Both Eric and Gerard were willing to
play any position on the field as did most of the team. Our left footers - Nolan Piccola, who played as much defense as
offense, always pressing for the ball, Ben Fagin with a great first move and cross and Zach McGinniss with excellent ball
handling and an eye for the open man. The front line regulars included Casey DiGiacomo with incredible trapping, passing
and ball handling, Charles Willis who was always pressing the goal and always smiling, Eric a great stopper who played
any position on the field with the same enthusiasm when not in goal and Josh Yanuck with fantastic ball handling, passing
and award for most shots to hit the goal posts. They kept the pressure on and had 10 near misses for every goal they scored.
They also were happy to play middie whenever needed. Our tireless middies were Max Robbins who had the remarkable
ability to be everywhere on the field all at once never giving the opposing team a break, Gerard when not playing goalie,
attack or defense demonstrated great ball control, passing and pressure and Josh who played middie more often than attack
and still managed to put the ball on goal and keep the pressure on.
Of course our defense - Will Hebert with the big kick and constant stopping and sweeping, Will Robin who tirelessly ran
down every ball and didn't stop until the ball was back in our offensive end and last but not least Max Giordano. Max could
play any position on the field and he wanted more than anything to be on attack and score a goal. But he knew we needed
his incredible skills on defense and he didn't argue, sucked it up and played defense in every game with an occasional
chance at middie and attack. Even from the defensive position he was ale to cover almost all of the field keeping the ball
out of our end and in play at the opposing end.
Thanks to the excellent coaching, training and patience from Barbara Yanuck and Charlie Pepperell, the team got better
every week and had fun doing it. And a thousand thanks to Debbie McGinniss. She practically single handedly pulled the
team together through many emails starting with getting enough players and then throughout the season organizing us for
practices and games.
Hats off to an incredible team whose record does not reflect their effort and skills.

The amazing young men that make up the U11 Mustangs soccer team gave us many great moments
during the Fall 2012 season. After hurricane Sandy cut the season short, we all were left with a great
deal of expectancy for the spring season to see our young players continue growing. One of the great
moments the Mustangs gave us was during the Labor Day tournament. The Mustangs faced off with
teams from higher LIJS divisions and they showed they were a force to be reckoned with on the field.
During the last game of the second day of play, the Mustangs were exerting such pressure on attack
that the other team recoursed to kick every ball that came to their feet out of bounds. Though we lost
that game by one goal, it was delightful to see the Mustangs play so fiercely. A great delivery in the
fall season was on the third week, the Mustangs shutout and beat the team that was then at the top of
the division and that had scored eight goals in the previous two weeks, a beautiful victory that was
fought every second of playtime. We all are very much looking forward to seeing the Mustang back in
action in the upcoming season. Go Mustangs!!

Our Season began early in August on the fields at Goose Hill. Seven Netchix meeting 7 new members
of the team, under the direction of 2 new coaches. We knew early that this team had talent, drive and
determination. The coaching and teaching styles of Coach Kelly and Coach Dave proved to be a
winning match. We were all excited and eager to start our practices on the turf and start becoming a
new soccer family. The Netchix started the season with a big loss. That did not deter us, it made us
stronger. We began to grow and work hard as a team. We were just getting into our groove when the
season abruptly ended. Our record was 3 Wins and 4 Losses. We are proud of the girls and what they
have achieved. We look forward to the Spring Season and continuing where we left off.

Team Pride’s 2012 fall season was memorable. We welcomed several new players and they meshed
with the veterans immediately and when we took the field our opponents faced a unified force.
Our final record was 3-3-1 and everyone on the team contributed to our victories. Goals came from
offensive and defensive players alike with 8 different players all finding the back of the net. True to
the Pride’s tradition, our defense and goalies were solid all season long. The highlight of the season
was a hard fought game against a physical Patchogue team. The Pride battled back from 2-0 and 3-1
deficits to tie the game in the final minutes at 3-3. Every player battled to win possession of every
loose ball and worked together to even the score. Although, the score said we didn’t win it was a true
Team victory.
Like everyone else the season ended abruptly but understandably. Our team will continue building on
our successful fall season and will be ready for the spring and the competition ahead.

This fall was an exciting start to a long run at winning and entertaining soccer for us. Thirteen kids
from four schools got together and competed against many teams that had played together for as much
as two years. Here is a break down of our Rock Stars. Best goals of the year go to Hunter and Bryce.
Hunter blasted a far post shot from twenty five yards out. The crowd cheered with amazement. Bryce
drilled a line drive one time shot from twenty out against a then undefeated Elwood team. Best game
by a goalie goes to Ryan against Mt.Sinai. He kept us alive in a tough loss. Our best passers of the
year were J.P, Owen and Alex C. You could always count on them to hit the open players and
anticipate the game. No one could match the intensity of Matt, Ben and Danny. If there was a body to
bump, they were up for the challenge. Our defensive star was Ian. Think of a pit bull chasing down a
sheep. If you need a throw in to go twenty yards or a big kick just look to Alex F and Hunter. If you
watched a game you wouldn’t need anyone to point them out. Finally our most improved players were
a pair of Ethans. Ethan F. and Ethan E. found their way and improved every week. Amazing to watch
their confidence grow every week. Scott and I had a blast and can’t wait for the Spring.

We are extremely proud of the Red Bulls' efforts and achievements this past year. In the spring, our
team performed well enough in LIJSL to move up to Division 2 in the fall. We logged a ton of time on
the pitch this fall, and it resulted in tremendous progress for the team going into 2013. In league play
we netted 11 wins, with 4 losses and a tie. In LIJSL we can came in 3rd place in our division with a 52 record with a chance of moving up to division one in the spring. Our NYSCL record was 6-2-1,
putting us in second place in our division. In addition we came in second place in our late summer
tournament at East Meadow and second place in Northport over Columbus Day. In all we played 24
games this fall - a lot of soccer!

soccer and making great strides in their game skills. The girls’ footwork and passing improved

the girls had a ton of fun throughout the learning process. Special thanks to our superstar goalies—

During 2012 the Red Strykers maintained their strong showing in Division 2 in the spring as well as in
Division 1 in the shortened fall season. In the spring, the team only allowed 6 goals, the best in the
division. The defense was a solid wall and the team posted four 0-0 ties. They were also awarded the
top sportsmanship honors for the division with 374 points. We are quite proud of the boys for this
important recognition.
The Fall season was challenging due to junior year pressures including SAT prep, academics and
school ball. We were also bumped up to Division 1 and played very strong competition. Despite these
issues, the team performed very well together and tied Auburndale 0-0 when they were in 1st place and
lost to Deer Park, 1-0 with less than 2 minutes left in the game under terrible conditions (the beginning
of Hurricane Sandy). Deer Park ended up winning the division.
We continue to encourage a fun atmosphere and allow the boys to experiment with different
formations and positions. The key to the team’s success is that they play as a team and play with
passion.
The team is great combination of local schools including Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington,
Harborfields, Friends Academy, St. Anthony's and Chaminade.
Special thanks to Ross Bertossi for assisting.
We look forward to a fun filled 2013!

Red United had a very exciting fall season. As a result of our team’s efforts, commitment and our
ability to effectively work together, we were able to play hard, have fun while still being very
successful. The girls held together as a team extremely well despite many challenges they faced
throughout the season including multiple injuries to key players. We played virtually every game
without subs or even with a player or two down, without one complaint from one of our girls.
Ultimately, our team suffered only one loss and has moved up a division, overcoming all of these
obstacles and setbacks. They fought hard, played to win and always had fun together.
We witnessed some extraordinary improvements in our player’s abilities and skills throughout the
season. As the season progressed their individual skills transformed into working together as one
united team on the field. These girls not only are amazing players but they also have tremendous
hearts, which is displayed by the love that they show each other and through their sportsmanship. Their
smiles on and off the field communicate this message to all spectators to see and share.
As the season continues, there have been many valuable life experiences, which will leave a significant
positive imprint on all those connected to Red United, our club and our league. Life lessons that
include significance to words like camaraderie, loyalty, respect, diligence, self-respect and friendship.
These players understand the meaning of being a part of something bigger than just them and have a
true understanding of the definition of the word: “team”. They place value on the importance of
staying committed to a team and view this commitment as a form of respect.
Regardless of a very successful season, the most rewarding of all is to see how our players have
formed friendships and bonds that extend well beyond just the field. This is truly indicative of our
name: Red United. We are extremely proud of our players and our team in all of their efforts,
dedication, sportsmanship and athleticism.
We look forward to another fabulous season with these awesome players who take soccer to a whole
new level. Red United is a truly special team and wins big in all of our hearts.

It has been a privilege and honor to have coached this wonderful and talented group of young ladies for
the past 9 years. Watching the girls grow as soccer players and into mature, young women has been a
true pleasure and provided me with many great memories.
The Rockets have spent countless seasons together, sticking it out through the thick and the thin, the
wins and the losses, and welcoming new teammates when having to say farewell to others - the girls
have been through it all together. Being a part of a team as remarkable as this one has given these
ladies lifelong memories and friendships, but most importantly, the true value of soccer - playing
together for the fun of the game - which they can now pass on to young, future players.
Congratulations to the Rockets on having a wonderful season and being a spectacular team, especially
to the ladies who are leaving behind this chapter of their lives, as they journey out to begin a new one.
We know they will have much success as long as they stay true to the values and attitudes that made
them the Rockets. Only fitting that they should win one more Sportsmanship Award in their final year.
These young women should be extremely proud of themselves for how they represented their families,
club and community both on and off the field. It is truly fitting that they won the LIJSL Sportsmanship
Award once again in their final year.
Thank you for letting us be part of the Rocket experience. Sharks

The team has come a long way from its early beginning. We’re now in our forth season together and
the boys have grown from a small band of young kids looking to just have a little fun to a real team – a
family. They have grown and matured into caring, considerate and very competitive players.
We had a winning season this past fall at 6 wins and 1 loss. This is quite an achievement considering
our humble start 4 seasons ago. I have watched the boys evolve and become more competitive each
season and go into each and every game determined to win. Part of the reason is that with hard
practices twice a week they need to produce a win on the weekend as compensation – I liked that.
More importantly, they have come to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and help each on
the field as friends and brothers – I liked that even more!
This past season the boys entered as seasoned veterans of the game knowing well the rules of the game
and the other teams style of play. We knew which teams would give us a hearty battle and others that
would not play fair. We accepted the challenges and had fun. I think the most memorable part of this
season was how much the other teams underestimated the Sharks. We arrived at the playing field
generally on time but never too early and while other teams were running laps and doing push-ups
(partly for intimidation) before the game we were simply talking or loosening up. What they didn’t
know was that we were already prepared and showed up to win!
A quote I remember from one of the opposing teams coaches sums up our season the best. He said:
“Before we played the Sharks no other team has even scored a goal on us and you beat us. Your team
never stopped giving us everything they had – very impressive.”

I would like to start by commending the girls of the Stingrays for being so dedicated and determined.
The fall season for the Stingrays was very challenging because of the loss of some strong position
players. It was a season of rebuilding and many new faces. It took some time for the team to gel, but
much improvement was attained and many new friendships were formed. For the most part we were
competitive in our division losing most of our games by only one goal. The Stingrays players saw
many position changes throughout the season looking for their strong points. We finished our season
on a high with an away win against Northport. Despite our record, the girls kept their heads high and
fought to the end. I want to thank the parents and players for being supportive, determined, and
committed to the team. This Spring looks to be another challenging season with only 13 players on the
roster, but I know that we will continue to improve and remain competitive. We are looking forward to
a fun and exciting spring season. See you on the fields!

2012 was an exciting year for The Storm. We moved up to the large field and the team took to it like a
fish to water. The girls adjusted very well and improved in passing, shooting and defending. All of
the players continued to expand their skills and we continued to work together as a unit and develop as
a team. Our goalies, defenders, midfielders and forwards all contributed greatly in each game. The
coaches and parents are very proud of the players and their development. The team finished the season
undefeated and won the division. More important then the wins and losses, all of the girls had fun. I
enjoy watching the interaction of the team and how much they enjoy being
around one another. They played tremendous soccer this season and throughout all the practices and
games, there have been countless numbers of smiles. We're having fun and will continue to do so.
In addition to the regular season, the girls competed well in the Northport, HBC and Commack
tournaments, where they took home some hardware. Currently, The Storm is playing in the Coindre
Hall indoor league and just finished the season in first place and is headed into the playoffs. Hopefully
we will finish up strong. I want to thank Mike and Sean for helping coach, Kerian our treasurer, Jenn

Hello Sweet Cleats Nation!!!. Everyone told us that starting a new team is difficult in Season One.
Well, we did run into some challenges in our first season, specifically scoring goals, but what an
amazing first season! From our first team barbecue way back in August at the beach, I could tell that
we had a special group of girls, and a great bunch of parents.
The fun part of coaching is watching the girls love and enthusiasm for the game grow each and every
practice. We are very proud of the way we embraced the concept of Team and played hard for one
another. Even though we were sometimes challenged by injuries (no more cartwheels ladies!!!!), the
team always responded well to the adversity. I personally want to thank all our girls for being open to
playing various positions throughout the season, and never complaining about playing somewhere that
was unfamiliar to them. Also, thanks for NEVER ONCE complaining about playing time:) We have a
big squad so it becomes challenging to get everyone the same amount of time, but you were all great
about it, thank you!
For me, the highpoint of the season was our Columbus Day weekend tournament in Sunken Meadow.
We almost pulled out one or two games, and we all had a great time even though the weather was
pretty lousy. I think that weekend really galvanized us as a team and Coach John and I saw a huge
improvement in the level of play from everyone for the remainder of the season.
Coach John and I are super excited for next season. If the snow ever melts we will start practicing, so
get off those couches ladies!!! Put the XBox away and go outside and practice your footwork! Soon
enough we will be back on the pitch and playing some great soccer and creating some great memories
along the way. If we are able to win our division this year I will surprise all of you by having Harry
Styles at our team party!
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making coaching so much fun. It is an honor and a
privilege to coach each and every one of you and be a part of your lives!

The GU-13 Thunder is the successor to the Socceroos, and along with a new name, we added many new players
to our returning core for the fall season, so we were not sure what to expect. The coaches need not have been
concerned, as the team jelled right away in practices, and we began the season with strong expectations. Our
first game was versus the Bayport Dynamite, who eventually tied for first in our division. While we lost 0-2, we
were heartened to see the team display some solid skills and play hard until the final whistle against a very
aggressive team. We earned our first point of the season the following week versus the Hauppauge Blue
Demons in a 2-2 tie. The girls twice found themselves down a goal, but refused to quit and we scored the
equalizer late to secure the tie. This was the first time that Hauppauge failed to beat us, so it was certainly a step
in the right direction. Our third game was against our friends and neighbors, the CSHH Stingrays, and this one
was hotly contested, since local bragging rights were on the line. The game was closer than the final score of 41 would indicate, and all of the CSHH players, whether wearing black or red, could be proud of their efforts.
Jess scored a natural hat trick, a rare thing in soccer, so hats off to her! Our next game found us out in Bellport,
where we took on the Pride. The girls unleashed a barrage of shots at the Bellport keeper, and kept the ball in
the offensive half for most of the game. We netted two goals, and late in the game the tables were turned on us
and this time the opposing team scored the late goal to hold us to a tie. Four games into the season we were 1-12 and very happy with our trajectory. Our fifth game was versus our perennial nemesis, the Kings Park
Mustangs. Again our team played well. Again we rocketed shots at and all around the goal. Our coaches were
high-fiving on the sidelines! Alas, the Mustangs netted a lucky goal late in the first half, and that was all of the
scoring for this game as we lost 0-1. In the words of Coach Dave, “There were signs of brilliance, but we just
couldn’t bake the cake.” This unlucky streak continued into the next game against the Sound Beach
Waverunners. The Thunder completely dominated the game, and could just as easily won 10-0, but every shot
sailed wide, or clanged off the post, or was tipped away by the opposing GK, while the Waverunners somehow
scored two goals on just a few shots. A heartbreaking 0-2 loss for us. The final game that we played was a
dramatic nail-biter from start to finish. Play seesawed up and down the pitch. Chances were created and
squandered by both squads. Then, with 90 seconds left until the final whistle, we finally seized an opportunity
on a brilliant through pass and slid the game winner past the NPT/CH goal keeper for a season-ending (although
we could not know that at the time) 1-0 victory. Hurricane Sandy prevented our squad from closing out the
season with a few more wins, and our final tally was 2 wins, 2 ties, and 3 losses. Coaches Dave, Sal, and I thank
all of the Thunder players (Alex, Alyssa, Ashley, Candice, Christina, Delaney, Elizabeth, Emma, Fiann,
Georgeanna, Grace, Holly, Jessica, Katarina, Madison, Megan, and Niamh) for a wonderful season, and we look
forward to continued improvement and fun in the spring.

Fall 2012 was the inaugural season for the U10 Tigers. Our teamed formed this past summer and after
only a few practices kicked off our year. Our first game was a hard fought loss 1-2. Then came 3
straight ties, but we finished strong with 3 straight wins! In a division with tough competition the
Tigers finished 3-1-3. What was most memorable about this season was the growth of the boys. They
very quickly learned their positions and strengths through practices and training. We showed
toughness and resiliency in all our games. I’m really looking forward to an exciting spring season! I
would like to thank all the Tiger families for their amazing support and dedication. It has been a
pleasure and a joy to coach such well behaved young men.

We were fortunate enough to have Allie Long, an enthusiastic and experienced trainer, guide our team. She
played striker for the professional soccer team Paris Saint-Germain in France. With her expertise game
knowledge, she conducted fun drills that taught our girls field sense, stronger foot skills and team play.
Practices were never short of smiles and much laughter, especially during our “World Cup” games.
The Titans girls have great sportsmanship and an even greater team spirit! We are so looking forward to an
exciting and fun filled spring season.

2012 was a year of evolution, as the Twisters struggled to compete at the division 1 level in the spring,
and attempted to cope with a reduced roster in the fall. The season highlight occurred Memorial
Weekend, when the girls ventured to Massachusetts to compete in the MPS College Showcase
Tournament. The girls performed admirably. The marquee match was their dominating performance
over Blackhawks (MA), in which their 1-0 result could have been 5-0 or 6-0. Off the field, players and
parents traveled to Cantina Italiano in the north end of Boston where there enjoyed a terrific Italian
menu while taking in the sights of Faneuil Marketplace and Quincy Market. The fall season seemed
daunting as the Twisters found themselves with a roster of only twelve when several players quit the
team at the last minute. However, these girls showed great commitment and team spirit, doing what
they could to be at every game. After dropping a tough 2-0 decision in the first game, the girls roared
back to go undefeated the rest of the way, often playing down with ten players. As we head toward
spring, the Twisters are pleased to have seven new players join the roster and look forward to
competing in Division 1 and to traveling out of state to a tournament on Memorial Day Weekend.
Many thanks to the players and parents for their unwavering commitment to the team.

The United had a fantastic fall season and we eagerly await the spring! We welcomed several new
players to the team this season, Chris, Jack, Matthew, Peter and Steve. They are all great additions to
the team and had a big impact during the season.
The United were a force in the fall, winning their first six games before losing to the division champs.
Our games were close, hard fought and exciting. The boys’ confidence in winning the close games
was fantastic.
The United also took second place at the NPT Cow Harbor Columbus Day Tournament, losing out on
first place by goal differential. Did we really miss a tournament winning last second goal because of a
sagging cross bar? It was a great weekend!
The United are a very special group of boys. They play well and hard and still demonstrate great
sportsmanship. Their efforts have been recognized by LIJ, which awarded them their second
Sportsmanship Award for the spring 2012 season. Winning this award once is difficult; winning it two
seasons in a row is a fantastic accomplishment. Thanks to the parents and families for their important
share in this award.
Thanks to our trainer Marvin Sorto, we couldn’t do it without you!
Go United!
