Dear Residents,
Following an eventful
winter, it is with great
pride that I am able to
announce the wonderful
things in store for the
warm summer months
ahead through our
Parks & Recreation
Department. Inside this
guide you will find all of the details about our
upcoming events and programs for the summer of
2016. Whether you like to stay active or just relax
in the sunshine at one of our beaches, our Town
offers something for everyone.
We here at the Town of Babylon are extremely
proud of our parks and beaches, which are among
the best on Long Island. Be sure to take
advantage of all that our facilities have to offer by
acquiring a recreation permit for you and your
family. Permits are available starting May 11th at
10:00 am at Phelps Lane. See Page 29 for more
information or call (631) 893-2100.
See you around town,
Rich Schaffer
Babylon Town Supervisor
Tony Martinez Reports
Friends and Neighbors,
With the warm summer
months approaching us, I
hope you’re as excited
as I am! There are many
great things happening at
our parks in the
upcoming months,
including our popular
free summer concerts and our annual Beach Blast
celebration in August.
In addition to the exciting summer events we have
planned, the Town of Babylon continues to invest
in our parks. Over the past year, we have installed
two new state-of-the-art playgrounds with safety
surfacing at Birchwood and Geiger Parks. We
have also installed a second synthetic turf baseball
field at Phelps Lane Park, and the Town has a
third one slated for this year. In the upcoming year,
we will continue investing in more projects that
make our Town the great community that it is.
I hope you enjoy reading through this guide and be
sure to take advantage of all that we have planned.
There’s something fun for everyone!
Sincerely,
Tony Martinez
Babylon Town Deputy Supervisor

Advance Film Program
Advanced Filmmaking Fun (Grades 3 and 4)
Filmmaking Fun
Our program will start by demonstrating how
motion pictures and television are illusions that
create the idea of motion. The children will then
work hands-on producing animations on 35mm
film and create tracings of animation cells on light
boxes. At the end of the class, their films will be
shown on a movie screen. We will explain the
difference between line animation and stopmotion animation. The children will then produce
their own stop-motion animation using pose-able
figures. At the end of the class, their stop-motion
animation will be shown on the movie screen. The
students will then produce another stop-motion
film using pose-able dinosaurs on a movie-set. At
the end of the class, the students will see their final
stop-motion animation on a movie screen. The
class will also be producing live green screen
effects, where the students can see themselves
inside a major motion picture film. Children will
see themselves in a scene of the Harry Potter film.
They will also be dressed in costume and use movie
props, such as a flying broom. The students will
also see themselves on a movie screen as they are
riding a high-speed rollercoaster. We continue the
green screen technology as the students see
themselves inside the movie Jurassic Park. The
children will be running from a T-Rex, hiding from
Raptors, and feeding a Brontosaurs with a prop
branch. We will discuss the animatronic effects
used in movies, as we will present to the students
our robot chimpanzee from our motion picture
museum. Later, the students will create a stopmotion film using themselves as the special effects
characters. They will then produce a movie special

guardians and their dependents under the age of 18. Any family member over the age of 18 can not be included on the family plan
and must purchase an individual pool plan or daily tickets if they wish to use the facilities. When purchasing a family pool plan you must
show proof of guardianship for any children in your care; this includes nieces, nephews, grandchildren and foster children. A
household pool plan is a husband, wife and children under the age of 18. *There are no replacements for any lost or stolen pool
