Welcome
Thirty-six years ago, Guild members borrowed the musical term
“crescendo” and conceived the idea of the Crescen-Dough auction to
raise money for the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. Decades later,
the auction continues to be a Huntsville tradition. Through the years
the Guild has logged an impressive 675,128 volunteer hours and
raised in excess of $4.48 million to support the orchestra.
This evening is made possible by the incredible support of the
many merchants who have so graciously donated items as well as
private and corporate donors. Thank you for your continued
generosity.

Terms and Conditions
Registration
Each Auction attendee will be assigned a bid number & a catalog at
check-in. If you received a catalog in the mail, please bring it with
you the night of the auction.
Absentee Bids
If you are unable to attend the night of the auction, a new option is
available this year - the Absentee Bid. Go to the auction website,
www.crescendoughauction.org, and print a copy of the absentee bid
form. Follow the instructions and note that all absentee bid sheets
must be received no later than 9AM CDT on the 17th of April, 2009.
The Guild is not responsible for bids that are not received by this
date and time.
Silent Auction and Items of Note
All items have a corresponding white bid sheet. Use your bid
number, not your name, to bid on an item. All bids are in whole
dollar amounts only and must be made in $5 increments. The
highest bid at closing wins. Please note the minimum bids and the
bidding increments as it is imperative these are followed. If theses
rules are not followed, your bid will be counted invalid. To BUY IT
NOW, write your bid number next to the BUY IT NOW amount on
the bid sheet and notify the Auction volunteer worker.
Blind Bid
This is a new addition to the auction this year. All items have a
corresponding bid sheet. You will write your bid for an item and
place your bid in the corresponding sealed box. Your bid will be
unknown (or blind) to other bidding competitors. Be sure to fill out
the “maximum bid allowed” at the bottom of the bid sheet. At the
end of the bidding, the box will be opened and the sheet with the
highest bid wins. In the event of a tie, your maximum bid amount
will your final bid. Please bid in whole dollar amounts. If a
maximum bid is not listed and a tie occurs, the item is won by the
person who added a maximum bid. If these rules are not followed,
your bid will be counted invalid.

Live Auction
Hold up your bid number so that the spotter and Auctioneer can see
who is bidding. The last highest bid wins the item. The Auctioneer
will say “sold to…” and call your number.
Successful Bids and Payments
Payments may be made by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa. Please
make checks payable to the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild.
All sales are final. Items may be removed from the Auction only by
exhibiting a paid receipt. Check out begins at 9:15PM at the east end
of the Davidson Center. We encourage you to take your items at this
time. However, if you are unable to so, items may be picked up in
the Terrace Room at the Davidson Center from 8:00AM to 9:00AM
on Saturday, April 18, 2009.

Plan in advance with your friends to bid on the large catered parties
which are among the most popular Live Auction items.
Prices listed in the catalog are estimates only and have been rounded
to the next dollar. Items and services are not warranted by the
Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild as to value or quality or for tax
or other purposes.
All sales are final and “as is”. There will be no substitutions,
exchanges, or refunds with donors.
The Donor reserves the right to request a refundable damage deposit
on vehicles, boats, condominiums, and other valuable items that are on
loan to the purchaser.
The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra Guild is not responsible for items
after they leave the Auction.
The final decision regarding disputes over winning bids and other
Auction-related matter shall rest with the Auction Chairman.
The Auction Committee has made a good-faith effort to include
complete and accurate information in the Auction catalog. Nothing in
this catalog creates a contract between the Huntsville Symphony
Orchestra Guild and any individual for goods or services. All dealings
are between the high bidder and the merchant donating the good(s) or
service(s). Terms of and restrictions on an Auction item are specified
in the gift certificate representing the donation.
Unless otherwise specified, all Auction items and services must be
used at a mutually agreeable time within one year of April 17, 2009.

with positive, descriptive attributes that we should all aspire
to achieve. In keeping with her humble and reserved style,
Leslie’s signature is quietly placed on the front of her special

L-025 THIS SPECIAL VIOLIN was painted for the Huntsville
Symphony Orchestra Guild by YO-YO MA, the world’s
most famous and revered cellist. Mr. Ma’s passion for
music education comes across loud and clear when this
performing artist turns painter. Music staff with the notes of
a well- known, early string Suzuki piece adorn the front of
his violin. The Latin words Dona Nobis Pacem are handpainted on the front. Loosely translated and painted on the
back of the violin is “Justice and Dignity for All of Us.” YoYo’s signature is boldly painted and easily recognized down
the violin’s fingerboard. The lucky winner of this truly oneof-a-kind will also receive an autographed recording of Mr.
Ma’s award winning music.
