Mitsubishi Monitor
Activities
of the Mitsubishi Public
Affairs Committee
The Mitsubishi Public Affairs Committee (MPAC) represents 39 autonomous
Mitsubishi companies and is run by members selected by each of those
companies. Aiming to foster positive feelings for and trust in Mitsubishi,
the MPAC conducts a wide variety of public relations activities, some of
which are introduced below.
A Bimonthly Review of the Mitsubishi Companies and Their People Around the World
October & November
Publication
International Contributions
The MPAC publishes the Monthly Mitsubishi and
Mitsubishi Profile, in addition to the Mitsubishi Monitor.
Monthly Mitsubishi was first published in 1965 and is
distributed monthly both in Japan and beyond its shores
as a communication tool for Mitsubishi companies.
Mitsubishi Profile is a booklet written in both Japanese
and English which provides readers with information on
each Mitsubishi Group company.
Agreeing with the purport
behind the International
Literacy Year proclaimed by
the General Assembly of the
United Nations in 1990, the
MPAC started the Mitsubishi
Asian Children’s Enikki Festa in
that year. As well as promoting
cultural exchange among children
that transcends national borders
and race, the Enikki illustrated diary
helps support efforts to increase
child literacy rates in the countries
of Asia.

(mitsubishi.com) contains a link to
the MPAC home page which reports
on the activities of the Committee,

company and delivers a digital version

and more…
Examples of other activities conducted by the
MPAC include the hosting of lecture meetings
addressed by intellectuals and other well-informed
persons and, since 1994, the inviting of children
from domestic welfare facilities to home games of
the Urawa Red Diamonds football team.

Message from the Mitsubishi Monitor Editorial Committee
O
n this, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of
the Mitsubishi Public Affairs Committee (MPAC),
the editorial committee of the Mitsubishi Monitor
would like to offer its profound thanks to all those who have
laid the foundations of the Mitsubishi Group. The committee
holds an editorial meeting once a month in the Marunouchi
district of Tokyo. Comprised of less than ten members,
fewer than any other subcommittee involved in MPAC
activities, everyone works together in the editing process to
give maximum expression to what makes Japan so uniquely
Japanese and Mitsubishi so uniquely Mitsubishi.
Looking back at the changes and developments since the
inaugural edition of the review, we can see that the Mitsubishi
Group’s path to growth and development has followed that
of the Japanese economy. And renewing our determination
in this memorable year, we as one intend to continue
communicating information about Mitsubishi over the next
50 years. We look forward to your continuing support.

Since
1964
The Mitsubishi Public Affairs Committee (MPAC), which publishes the Mitsubishi Monitor,
celebrated its 50th anniversary in September this year. Through public relations activities,
the MPAC has striven to raise awareness of and trust in the Mitsubishi brand by keeping
those who work for the Mitsubishi companies and others informed about the various
business and operational activities conducted under the Mitsubishi name which have and
are contributing to society. In this special edition we will be marking the 50th anniversary by
showing how the Mitsubishi Monitor has kept pace with the years since its inaugural edition.

The expansion of Japanese companies into overseas markets
began slowly in the 1960s and then accelerated quickly after
the signing of the Plaza Accord in 1985. Time and distance
are shortening yearly around the world and today we see the
movement of people, goods, money, services and information
on a vast scale. In his welcoming message in the inaugural
edition of Mitsubishi Monitor, Yohei Mimura, Mitsubishi Public
Affairs Committee Chairman at the time, recognized the
importance of publishing a Mitsubishi Group PR review for
overseas readers to keep them up to date with current trends
in the age of globalization. Today, we continue to introduce
and bring news on the globally expanding business activities
of the Mitsubishi companies.

The Mitsubishi companies share the Three Principles:
Corporate Responsibility to Society, Integrity and Fairness
and Global Understanding through Business. This creed has
been passed down through the generations and continues
to be observed today serving as the linchpin that guides the
companies in discharging their corporate responsibility through
business activities. Global interest in and concern about climate
change and biodiversity continues to grow, and ways must be
found to cope with further increases in the world’s population
and to reduce environmental loads in the 21st century. To realize
a sustainable society, Mitsubishi companies are actively tackling
this challenge through their business activities. Mitsubishi
Monitor shares encouraging examples of these efforts with its
readers as a way of promoting further improvements in and
expansion of such activities.

MGC Prepares to Meet Rising Demand
for Hydrogen Peroxide in Asia
There is now strong demand for hydrogen peroxide in China
and other parts of Asia and this demand is expected to continu
growing in step with the expansion of paper manufacturing
and chemical and electronic industries. Mitsubishi Gas
Chemical (MGC), which is already among Asia’s top producer
of hydrogen peroxide, is poised to meet this growing demand.
The latest addition to MGC’s lineup of production facilities is

Mitsubishi Monitor is an English-language public relations review first published in 1987. Focusing on the
work of the Mitsubishi companies overseas, the review brings news of and introduces topics relating to
new products, the latest technologies and examples of how such technologies have been adopted.
Even before the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, which charted the
course for tackling environmental conservation and sustainable development on a global basis, Mitsubishi
Monitor has, for the enlightenment of its readers, been reporting on environmental measures taken by, and
on the social action programs of, Mitsubishi companies.
The review also publishes contributions from staff working for Mitsubishi companies around the
world, Grand Prix-winning artworks from the Mitsubishi Asian Children’s Enikki Festa, and information on
traditional Japanese customs as well as on the latest trends and fashions in Japan.

the MHI-TM2000 makes it easier to perform highly accurate

contribute to new advances in cancer treatment.
