On The Cover:
Let the Games Begin!
Summer is now in the rear view
mirror! Seasonal change always
happens in central Illinois
whether we are ready or not,
and fall is one of the best season
changes this area has to offer.
With the kids back in school, the
farmers harvesting the fields,
the trees turning magnificient
colors, the new television TV
series beginning, and Metamora
Redbirds kicking off the football
season adds to the excitement
that fall brings.
Starting this season, Redbird
Replay, a locally produced
Metamora football TV program,
will be broadcast exclusively on
MTCO’s digiMAX IPTV service on
channel 400 (410 HD). digiMAX
Sports has
teamed up
with Mark
Goodyear
and Scott
Ke r k e r
to
bring
you all of the Redbird football
games replayed on Wednesday
evenings at 7:00 p.m. Every
game now will be recorded and
broadcast in High Definition
(HD) using the latest technology
in IPTV service that MTCO
provides to the Metamora and
Germantown Hills community.
With the continued support of
local business (see back cover),
digiMAX Sports will add even
more thrills and nostalgia to
the Redbird Replay with Classic
Matchups from the past being
showcased on Sunday evenings
at 7:00 p.m. Games from the
past, like the 1975 and the 2007
State Championship games,
or the 1996 Normal semi-final
game will be aired. If you don’t
have DVR service, each classic
matchup will also be replayed
periodically throughout the
year. Give us a call or visit www.
mtco.com for more details on
which classic games will be
aired.
With the launch of our new
digiMAX Sports TV channel,
we are working hard to bring
other local sports and venues
of the community to televise
on our community channel 400
(410 HD). Also new this year,
the Germantown Grille and
Kouri’s Grille & Bar will both be
broadcasting the Friday Night
Redbird Replays. Enjoy the game
with food and friends. Let’s Go
Birds!
Continuing with the football
theme, MTCO is introducing
the NFL RedZone to its channel
lineup in September 2011.

Entertainment & Technology
Two culinary reservations can be made
starting this fall on The Hallmark Channel
Emeril’s Table Premieres Sept. 26
Hallmark Channel’s new daytime entry, Emeril’s Table,
featuring Chef Emeril Lagasse, will debut Monday,
September 26th at 10:00am CST. This daily program
showcases Lagasse in his element, sharing his love for food
with five lucky guests seated at his chef’s table.
Chef Emeril gives cooking lessons to a wide range of visitors:
from newlyweds, to fire fighters and vegetarians. He will
be answering culinary questions and food dilemmas, and
also share fresh, fun ideas,
recipes, tips, and techniques.
Season Two
Premiere of Martha Bakes
A Hallmark original series, Martha Bakes, premieres on
Monday, September 26th at 10:30am CST. This half-hour
series is the first to feature Martha teaching one specific
culinary discipline. What distinguishes the series from other
baking-related shows is that each installment, covering
themes such as cookies or pizza, begins with a recipe’s
basic foundation and then demonstrates how the addition
of certain ingredients or a new technique can create not
just one, but multiple recipes (The Hallmark Channel).
National Geographic Channel to
Air 9/11 Specials
With the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist
attacks approaching, National Geographic Channel
has two specials set to air Monday, September 6, 2011.
Giuliani’s 9/11 will air at 8:00pm and features NYC Mayor
Rudolph Giuliani as he looks back on the events that
took place on September 11th. Witness: DC will air
immediately following at 9:00pm. This special looks back
on the attack on Washington DC on
9/11. Both specials include video
coverage of the day’s horrific events.
Tips to Improve your Wireless
Signal at Home
If you are encountering a wireless signal in
your home that has slowed down or you are
experiencing signal drops, here are a few tips to
consider.
There may be a new wireless router in the
neighborhood that is causing interference. If that’s
the case just change the channel the router is on
and your problem may go away. Most routers come
with three channels: 1, 6 and 11. How to change
the channel varies from one router to another so
check your router’s manual for instructions.
Consider the position of your router. It should
be placed as centrally to the location of your
networked gear as possible. If you’re using
802.11b, r, or n equipment on the 2.4GHz band,
try to keep the router away from potential sources
of interference, such as microwaves and some
cordless phones. Bluetooth also runs on the
2.4GHz band. Think to yourself if furniture has
been moved recently. A bookshelf full of CD’s can
cause interference.
Setting up a security key on your wireless router
is important to protect privacy but also to keep
bandwidth thieves away.
Finally, if you are stretching the limits of your
wireless signal in your home, you may want to
consider replacing your router’s built-in antenna
with a third-party one which will send out a more
powerful signal. Such products are available in two
flavors: Omnidirectional antennas broadcast the
signal in all directions, while directional antennas
let you focus on a problem area. (Note that not all
router antennas can be replaced so check to make
sure it is an option for your router.)
If your router does not support replacement
antennas, investing in a repeater might help.
This is basically a device that you position on
the outskirts of your existing router coverage; it
receives, amplifies, and rebroadcasts the signal to
extend the range. (PCWorld Answer Line)
