Korn/Ferry Issues List of Influential Indians in Entertainment

Korn/Ferry International, the
world’s largest executive search
firm, along with the Beverly Hillsbased media consultancy Media
Partners Global, Mar. 9 released
a list of the top 15 “Indian Media
and Entertainment Companies
to Watch.” The list includes the
Mahindra Group, UTV, Yash Raj
Films and others.
The list also focuses on individual business leaders who are
shaping the industry, such as Yash
Chopra of Yash Raj Films; Prannoy Roy of NDTV; Puneet Goenka,
CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises; Kalanithi Maran, chairman/
managing director of South India’s
Sun TV; Indu Jain, chairman, The
Times Group; and Vispy Doctor
and Shailesh Kapoor, the founders
of Ormax Media, a research and
consulting firm for the media and
entertainment industry.
“The list will be used by a variety of individuals and journalists,”
Christina Marouda, managing
director of Media Partners Global,
told India-West in an e-mail. The
list will also be helpful to “enter-

Umesh Shukla, an award-winning animation director and artist
in Los Angeles, has entered the
comic space through his recently
released comic series called “Forgotten Tales.”
Under the umbrella of Pushpuck Comics, he has released four
stories titled “Tarak,” “Lahoo,”
“Shantal” and “Anant.”
Forgotten tales are stories
built around Indian mythology
that “masterfully interweave the
events in the lives of gods as depicted in the Indian Puranas with
the lives of ordinary children, who
happen to be living at the same
time as the god within the story,”
explained a spokesperson.
Each story exemplifies core
Indian values, and challenges
the protagonist to validate them.
“These stories have received an
extremely positive response
across a wide variety of
readers,” said the spokesperson.
Shukla is the founder
and chief creative officer
of Auryn, Inc., a high-tech
animation and visual effects
studio. He was a prominent
member of the Oscar-winning visual effects team
behind James Cameron’s
“Titanic,” and served as
lead computer graphics
supervisor at Disney Feature Animation and as a
consultant for DreamWorks’
“Shark Tale.”
“Forgotten Tales” can be

title “Forgotten Tales,” and
range in price from .99 to
$1.99.

The list was put together by
Korn/Ferry International as a
collaboration between their offices in Los Angeles and India, she
explained, “with some consultation from Media Partners Global
given our expertise in this area.
Korn/Ferry was the one who had
the final say.”

Ferry’s media and entertainment
practice, said in a statement, “The
film and television stars get all of
the press but we are pleased to
turn our attention to the corporate
superstars who have transformed
the Indian entertainment business
into the global economic force
that it has become today.”
The companies and individuals
who made the list will be honored
at a gala reception in Mumbai
March 22, said a spokesperson.
At the reception, Korn/Ferry and
Media Partners Global will also
present their inaugural Entertainment Industry Trail Blazer Award
to Yash Chopra, the legendary
film producer and the chairman
of Yash Raj Films.
