ADA DESIGN GUIDELINE OVERVIEW
KITCHEN & BATH CABINETRY
Aristokraft’s quick reference guide outlines current ADA Design guidelines
for upcoming kitchen and bath projects, helping you meet those standards
utilizing our Universal Design cabinetry.
USABLE KITCHENS AND BATHS
Covered multifamily dwellings with a building entrance on an accessible route shall be designed and constructed
in such a manner that all premises within contain usable kitchens and bathrooms….such that an individual in a
wheelchair can maneuver about the space.*
Kitchens that comply with the Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines can be designed to look and function like
conventional kitchens typically found in multifamily housing.**
CLEAR FLOOR SPACE
» REQUIREMENT

A 30" x 48" space to execute a parallel or perpendicular approach
to and centered on/at appliances and sinks (kitchen and bath)

This cabinet is designed to be hung 9" off the floor and can
be used toward compliance of 36"x 48" clear space at vanities
requirement when bathroom space is tight.
» SINK UNIT CABINETS WITH FRONT PANEL (SU)
The guidelines permit U-shaped kitchens with a sink
or cooktop at the base of the U to have less than 60
inches between the legs of the U only when a removable
panel or base cabinets are provided under cooktop or sink.
Aristokraft offers the sink unit cabinet with front panel to
make a U-shape layout meet the Fair Housing Accessibility
Guidelines. Aristokraft offers this cabinet in many wood species
and finish options. Available in 30" and 36" widths with a 16½"
deep space for sink opening.
