STANDARD OF THE MONTH
8. All Clubhouse meetings are open to both members and staff. There are no formal member
only meetings or formal staff only meetings where program decisions and member issues are
discussed.
I think this is a good practice as everyone is included, members and staff
collaboratively.
Catherine MA
Attending meetings together is an important aspect of the decision making process.

ADMIN UPDATES
Staff – Welcome to Melanie Fioratos who is replacing Malcolm!! Good luck to you Malcolm!
Advisory Board – Chiyo was our guest colleague this month at the meeting last week. She spoke
very well about her role in the Free Your Mind event. Thank you Chiyo!
Early Psychosis Workshop – Kyle, Natalie, Annezita & Colleen attended a session on Early
Psychosis on June 2nd. It was very informative - more info to follow.
Congrats & thanks to everyone with Free Your Mind – it was an awesome day!
A big thank you goes out to Carol H. – long time member representative on
our Crossroads Advisory Board who is resigning. We will miss your energy
and talents!! As a result, we will be looking to recruit another member
representative. If you might be interested in a member seat on the Advisory
Board, please talk to Carol H, Mary or Kyle C as a first step. We are looking
for an energetic member who knows the club well, can speak to members’
experiences and is willing to work on special projects with other volunteers
from the community.

SCRUBS UNIT UPDATES
The BBQ went and we were sold out. The sandwiches and fruit trays were a big hit
and we were snacking until the bitter end and got to take some food home as well.
Thanks to Courtney J. for arranging the coffee and coffee runs, flower and
emergency runs you name it. The teamwork was amazing. (For those who do not
remember Courtney, she was one of the students from CBU who did her work
placement with us.)
Thanks to Chiyo S. for promotions and media work as well as Sarah for being our
accounting and money go-to-person.
It’s lovely to see the “Sea of Tye Dye” T-shirts around the club and we think it is
creating joy and excitement.
Still some work to do over the next week to wrap up Free Your Mind and make
plans for our big THANK YOU CELEBRATION.
So many to thank it is endless!!
Thanks to Kevin M., for all the hauling all of our supplies and to all who wrapped
our beautiful water bottles. We have enough for the thank-you celebrations and
camp left over.
Scrubs boutique accepting summer clothing items for men and women—shorts,
short pants, t-shirts etc.
A big thanks to Megan P. for centerpieces and facilitation of decorating ideas.

News about Early Psychosis:
 Psychosis involves hallucinations., delusions and/or disorganized thinking
 3% of people will experience psychosis
 1% of people will experience schizophrenia
 Not everyone with psychosis will have schizophrenia
 Recovery from psychosis is possible
 The first 5 years after experiencing psychosis is a critical time to get help
 Our own health care system can add to the delay in getting help
 Family education & engagement are an essential piece to people doing well
 Research shows that we must be hopeful about recovery and fight the stigma inside ourselves
and in others
 Social supports, good housing, employment, friends, etc. help recovery!!

ACourse
The earth on its pathway around the sun
In itself has no purpose to go on.
A course takes us round , each & everyone
Along a circuit we begin & then continue upon.
We take a darksome journey by the stars because
Reason matters not out in space as we pretend. With thoughts that
can maybe tell what was
Past bygone years say that our hearts depend.
Why all this lack of purpose suits us well
To see deep; blue skies &, finally space
Any star or augur will surely tell
That deep, deep sea up there has an honest face.
It gladdens us well, shaded in the ample dark
To be spied alone lost in thought on this great ark.
Darren H.
Free Your Mind
Being a club member of Crossroads, my heart goes out to all the hard
work our members and staff completed. We should be proud of the
success in our work. The paintings and work were done with such
pride. Free Your Mind gave a lot of us self-esteem, what we all need
at times. I would like to thank Tammy Volkes, David and Jonathan
for all their help and time they gave us.
