Final Program
April 26 & 27, 2012
Nebraska Educational Technology Association
La Vista Embassy Suites & Conference Center
Welcome
NETA 2012—25 Years of Innovation
Welcome to the Nebraska Educational Technology Association’s annual spring conference. Plans for this
2012 Conference, 25 Years of Innovation, began 12 months ago in an effort to make this year’s conference a
memorable experience for everyone. Your two-day conference experience is designed to provide you with ideas
and solutions as you celebrate 25 Years of Innovation! There are keynote sessions given by nationally acclaimed
speakers and a choice of at least 11 breakout-sessions per hour from the 165 offerings.
This year the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) sessions will be held both days in the Wingtip Room. These
sessions provide a chance to work on your own device as you explore new resources (preregistration required).
The BYOD sessions have been extended to 90 minutes. If you did not register, you can go to the Wingtip room
and stand in line to possibly enter if those registered do not arrive on time.
Playgrounds will be held Thursday from 11:30 AM–1:15 PM in the Gatsby Room, where you can experience new
technologies with the playground leaders, including exploring distance learning opportunities.
The Conversation Strand is one where you come and “learn from the group,” not from an individual presenting.
Come to the Marriott Library for the Conversation strand.
The strength and power of the conference comes from the members who graciously step forward to present,
host rooms, submit student contest entries and share their expertise with other educators. Your presence at
the 2012 NETA Conference signifies that districts and institutions across the state understand the importance
of the collaboration and sharing that takes place not only in the session rooms, but in the hallways and tables that
surround the conference.

• Honoring Past Presidents of NETA
• Silver beads and other 25th anniversary decorations

Conference Meals
Lunch on both days will be on your own. So that you may
attend as many sessions as possible, we do not schedule
a formal lunch break. Lunch items will be available from
11:00 AM–2:00 PM in the Nines Restaurant, Embassy
Suites breakfast area, Caffenia’s, Marriott Bistro, and a
couple of other “remote” express stations.
Lunch Tickets
Back by popular demand—During Thursday registration near
the Gatsby Room and Friday morning by Dapper I, advance
box lunch tickets can be purchased. At lunch time, those with
advance tickets will go to Embassy Atrium area and go
through an express line to get their lunch. Please check your
name badge for your $2.50 coupon to use towards your
lunch/drink purchases. (in conference area only). Lunch
coupons will not be accepted at Nines, Bistro, Caffenia’s.
Conversation Strand
Join us in the Marriott Library for the conversation strand.
Come learn from the group, not just from one presenter.
Poster Sessions
On Thursday from 1:30–4:15 PM, watch for the gallery of
Poster Sessions in the Gatsby Room. There will be poster
sessions provided by NETA Grant winners from last year,
the CenturyLink/NETA Grant winners, sessions highlighting
the projects from the 2011 Learning Web Projects, and
other classroom teachers sharing their resources. There
will be topics of interest for everyone and drawings for prizes!
Stroll freely through the gallery of poster sessions where
presenters will be on hand to answer your questions.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Sessions
The Wingtip Room will be the place where you can bring
your own device for interactive, hands-on sessions. If you did
not pre-register, there will be a line (outside Wingtip Room)
where you can wait to see if room is available after ticketed
attendees are seated. See more information about the
BYOD sessions on page 8.
Distance Learning Strand
Learn how distance education can enhance learning for your
students. Fedora I is the place to be both days to learn more
about distance learning. Also, enjoy the IVC playgrounds
Thursday in Gatsby Room (from 11:30 AM–1:15 PM).
Experience the Playgrounds!
Check the Gatsby Room from 11:30 AM–1:15 PM on
Thursday for the Playgrounds. Playgrounds allow you to
explore various technology resources with the help of
experts. See pages 11–12 for lists of playground titles.
1:1 Initiatives Strand
Both Thursday and Friday, in Windsor X, there will be a
strand of sessions focusing on 1:1 initiatives and all the
related issues to consider.

network is his Petri-dish for learning to mentor teachers and students in virtual environments.

From Banning and Blocking to Opening the Doors
Graci Gillming, Educational Service Unit 10
We’ve blocked, we’ve banned, and we’ve confiscated the technology that students use to drive educators crazy,
and yet they still get around it. What can schools do to control the use of digital tools in the classroom? During this
session we’ll explore various ways to successfully allow students to use the tools they love in a safe and educational
environment.
