Happy 2016. . .
Welcome back! It is our sincerest hope that our
students and their families enjoyed a restful break in
December. It would appear that our students have returned with renewed energy and ready to learn!
Second term, which began in November, continues until
April 1st. This year, second term is longer than in
previous years and we encourage parents and
guardians to monitor Power School and to reach out to
your child’s teachers should you have any questions or
concerns. Teachers will continue to send home
monthly homeroom newsletters so you will know what
is going on in classrooms.
Winter has arrived! Although students are permitted to remain inside at lunch to participate in a club or
intramurals, we do have a dedicated group of students
who venture out every day. Please ensure your child
is dressed for the winter weather.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns,
please do not hesitate to contact us!

Basketball Season is well underway. Both our boys
and girls teams are off to an exciting start with
some wins and some losses. We would like to
commend all involved for their continued support.
On February 24, we will be holding a WELLNESS
DAY for all HCJH students. Students will attend sessions on a variety of topics related to health wellbeing. We have confirmed guest speakers on such
topics for healthy relationships, mindfulness,
anxiety, depression, and conflict resolution.
Halifax Yoga will be offering a free yoga series for
students from 3-4 pm beginning January 14th. Mats
will be provided but students need to arrange their own
drive home after the class. Bus tickets will be provided
for those in need. Contact Mr. Armstrong for more
information.
Afterschool Judo will also be offered when details
are worked out. Stay tuned...
Students vs Staff Volleyball Game
In December, students and staff squared off in a game of Volleyball. This was a fun event for all!
Wanted…
Gently-used Picture Books
Herring Cove Junior High is seeking your help in developing a bank of picture books to be use in
classrooms; e.g. fairy tales, Robert Munsch, etc. Picture books can help with students ready fluency,
ideas for story writing, art appreciation and many more learning opportunities. We would love to
take them off your hands if you want to part with them to our school library. All books will find a
good home.
