frets in both standard and jumbo sizes. New deep stained finishes are
available to compliment the beauty of our highly figured maple tops. To
enhance the tone of our guitars more models of Carvin pickups are available than ever before not to mention the acoustic bridge options that
are offered for many of our instruments. However, more important than
our growing list of options is our commitment to building high quality
guitars. Our modern 82,000 square foot plant in San Diego is equipped
with the finest guitar building machinery in the industry. The use of
high quality woods and our constant improvement in manufacturing
methods are an ongoing quest at Carvin. Several years ago we began
to cycle all of our necks and fingerboards through a long conditioning
process in our de-humidification chambers. What this does is
remove any possible stress in the wood. Stress
in the wood is what causes your neck to
warp or twist, and it may not fully develop
for months or years after an instrument is
built. This painstaking extra step is one of the
reasons why our guitars and basses are known
for their longevity and consistent playability.

C22J neck humbucker
Carvin’s Rapid Play Neck™ assures the best possible
string action. You simply can’t buy a guitar that plays
better. Optional stainless steel frets will last forever
and the optional tung oiled neck will provide a silky
smooth feel. The C22J neck pickup adds warmth and rich
harmonics. This pickup features vintage plain enamel wire
and seasoned Alnico V magnets, which are essential to the
great tone of the C22J.
The tilt back headstock improves sustain and eliminates
the need for a string tree. Sperzel locking tuners are
used because of their superior quality and their ability to
maintain perfect tune. These precision tuning keys are
made in the USA and are machined of solid billit aluminum and brass. Sperzel’s are well worth the extra cost.
A graphite-teflon nut also helps to keep Carvin guitars in
perfect tune.

Carvin guitars feature the C22B bridge
humbucker. This improved design with
it’s extra windings and special 1/4” thick
alnico V magnet delivers a warm sustaining tone with rich harmonics.
Many Carvin guitar models are available
with the M-series tune-o-matic bridge.
This bridge is set into a routed pocket
on special heavy studs. The strings
feed through the body which creates
increased downward pressure on the
bridge resulting in exceptional sustain
and tone.

We use premium Eastern
hard rock maple for our necks
because of its time proven
strength and stability. As a
body wood, hard rock maple
being very heavy and dense,
delivers a bright sustaining
tone. Maple has a wonderful light grain that looks great
with all of our translucent
finishes.
Alder is the standard body
wood for Carvin solid body
guitars and basses. Due to
its relatively light weight, this
wood is very resonant with
upper midrange definition.
Alder is a classic tone wood
and has been present in solid
body electric guitars from the
beginning. Alder has a medium light color, slightly darker
than maple and swamp ash.
Genuine Mahogany has an
inherent warm quality with
accentuated low-midrange.
Mahogany is also considered
to be a classic tone wood.
It is denser and heavier
than Alder, but lighter than
Maple. Mahogany along with
our flamed or quilted maple
tops, gives great sustain and
warmth. Genuine Mahogany
should not be confused with
less expensive Phillipine
and African Sapele. Genuine
Mahogany is reddish brown
in color and looks great with
all colors.
This vintage wood comes
from Southern swamps.
The portion of the tree that is
suitable for high quality lightweight Swamp Ash, is actually submerged underwater for
years which yeilds a porous
lightweight wood. This wood
delivers slightly less midrange with full low-end and
nice singing highs. Swamp
Ash is light in color with rich
grain patterns and matches
the color of our Eastern Hard
Rock Maple necks–looks great
with translucent finishes.
Eastern Black Walnut is a
dense medium hard wood
that is slightly heavier than
Mahogany. Its tonal quality
is warm with a growling low
end and a bright top end,
especially when used for
bass–it will really cut through
in the mix. Black walnut has
medium dark beautiful grain
patterns and looks great with
gloss or satin finishes.
Koa is an exotic medium
weight wood grown exclusively
in the Hawaiian Islands. It was
used by ancient Hawaiians to
build canoes and surfboards.
Koa has warmth and sustain
similar to Mahogany and also
possesses the clear open tone
of Alder. Koa looks wonderful whether you choose a tung
oiled, satin or gloss finish.

Flamed Curly Koa is the
premium wood for building Ukuleles and high-end
acoustic guitars. Whether you
choose to add Flamed Curly
Koa to the top of your acoustic
or solid body, the tone will
benefit from added sweetness
and pronounced midrange.
Koa looks wonderful whether
you choose a tung oiled, satin
or gloss finish.
Claro Walnut is the most
sought after figured walnut
on the market. A walnut top
will add a unique look and
a brighter tone in the upper
register with a darker growling
low end. The figure can vary
between a flame and quilted
look with variations in patterns
and shades of brownish root
beer colors and black.
Known for its pure light color
and uniform grain, Engleman
Spruce is considered one of
the finest woods for Acoustic
Guitar tops. It has a brighter
tone than Cedar with a very
nice and even low-end
response.
Cedar has a very nice reddish
brown color with even straight
grain and comes standard on
our CL40. It has been used
for hundreds of years as a top
wood on classical and flamenco guitars. It has a very warm
tone with subdued high end
when compared to spruce.

Carvin is proud to offer the “California carved top”. This exquisite guitar features a beautifully sculpted top of the finest
Curly-Flamed Maple. The back of the body and the neck
are made of hand selected genuine Mahogany for added
warmth. Classic C22 humbuckers are custom wound with
vintage plain enamel wire which helps bring out the harmonically rich tone and sustain of this fine instrument.
Carvin’s “Rapid Play” low action neck assures effortless playability throughout the entire fingerboard, while the sleek
set-in neck heel and lower body cutout allow easy uninhibited access at the 22nd fret. The California Carved Top
is available in several different exclusive triple step stained

CT3 Mahogany
The CT3 has the same features as the CT6,
except the carved body is made entirely of
rich Mahogany. Solid and optional translucent colors are applied to the entire guitar.
CT4 Maple Top
The CT4 also has the same great features
of the CT6. However, the Mahogany body
is capped with standard Eastern Maple.
Solid and optional translucent colors are
applied to the top only. The back and
sides are finished in natural gloss to show
the beautiful Mahogany.

Once again Allan Holdsworth worked
closely with Carvin to create the Fatboy.
The 2 3/8” thick body has special twin
beam suspension that allows the top and
back of the body to resonate freely. The
twin beams are not glued in pieces of
wood, but are an integral part of the body.
This along with the maple neck gives the
Fatboy more of a hollow body jazz tone.

Allan Holdsworth worked closely with
Carvin for two years developing his
Carvin H2 and H2T signature models. The
Holdsworth has many unique design features including the alder wood set-in neck
and chambered solid body. The H2 comes
standard with a Tune-O-Matic bridge.
The H2T features the Wilkinson tremolo
system. The highly resonant tone of this
unique guitar is incredible.
