Vice-Chairman’s Message
Dear Fellow Members of the Greater Mahopac
Carmel Chamber of Commerce & Board of
Directors,
Your Chamber Board of Directors has been
extremely busy over the past couple of months
working to make this the best partnership
opportunity for you to help grow your business.
Our premier event, The Mahopac Street Fair, co-chaired by Domenic
Zecca and John Iorio, was a great success for all the members that
participated.
I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped make the event so
successful. The Chamber is able to grow and prosper through the efforts of
great volunteers who get involved to make each event fun and exciting for
those that attend.
We have some exciting events coming up over the next few months.
Holiday in the Park at Chamber Park will be held on Saturday, Nov. 28.
We hit record numbers last year and this year should be even better. We look
forward to seeing the community come out and celebrate the holiday season.
Our co-chairs, Howard Payson and John Iorio, are already gearing up for
the 2016 Business Expo, which will held at Putnam County Golf Course in
April. They will be looking for volunteers to join their committee to make
this the best Business Expo ever.
Last year the Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce held its
first Night at the Races charity event to raise money for local high school
graduates. Next year the event is scheduled for March 19, 2016, so save
the date. We are looking for volunteers to help. It is rumored that everyone
involved last year had a great time.
Board members Faith Ann Butcher and Pam Zacotinsky are gearing
up to get the 2016 Chamber Directory ready. This is a great place for our
members to advertise and SHOWCASE their business.
Over the last month the Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce
has been involved with five grand openings for local businesses and there
are more to come.
These are just a few of the awesome things going on in your local
chamber. A sure way to help grow your business and meet great people is to
volunteer in one of the committees that help to make all these great events
happen.
The Chamber is here to help you grow your business. If you have
questions about how we can be of service to you and your business, come
visit with CEO Michael Bucci. He would be happy to help you.
As I close this month’s message, I would like to thank our Board members
for all the great work they do. Through your hard work the Greater Mahopac
Carmel-Chamber of Commerce is getting better and better.

that swam, ran and walked on September 19th to help raise money for pediatric cancer. The team made up of Ty’s
parents, relatives and local volunteers with the help of Town Supervisor Kenny Schmidt, our police, sheriff and
highway departments, our local newspapers and magazines, many local Businesses, Condo Associations and all
who participated in this event made this another successful fundraiser. This dedicated team has already started
planning next year’s event. You can learn more about it from our local newspaper or cable TV.
As the Summer ends and we get back into the swing of things, please think about donating a stuffed animal
to our Bears for Love Collection. Read more about it below. Please email me with any news you’d like to share
with the Chamber Community.

It’s that time of year again, when we start asking you to think about donating to this cause. We do realize
there are so many worthy causes out there, but if you can, we’d appreciate it. Each year we collect NEW stuffed
animals (the hospital by law can only accept new stuffed animals). We started collecting bears several years
ago, but so many of you found all kinds of cute critters so now we’d be thrilled with any kind of stuffed animal
that catches your eye. We do ask, if you’d bring a small or medium animal rather than a big one. This way more
children will benefit. We gather them together and bring them to Putnam Hospital Center, where they are
given to patients and siblings, who are either admitted or treated as outpatients. We’ve found that after so
many years the nurses look forward to the opportunity to give one of these furry little critters to a frightened or
crying child only to see the smile it brings to their little and sometimes bigger faces. So if at all possible, please
bring a new stuffed animal to the next meeting or drop it off to the Chamber Office.
Thank you so much in advance.

Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce
LAB Report
09/22/15
Mission:
Fostering goals & visions for a strong, vibrant and inviting Community
Your Legislative Advocacy Board (LAB) is keeping the promise made back this Spring at a Town
Board meeting to look further into the signage codes for the Town of Carmel.
We realize a responsibility to be the voice of our members as an important value to being part of
The Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce.
Member of LAB have held brainstorming sessions with town officials and they have been very
helpful is seeing the vision for signs in our town that promote your business without restricting your
message.
After researching through no less than eight other municipalities on signage, we have identified
commonalities and are outlining some ideas for further discussion in hammering out a piece of
legislation that helps beautify the town, serves the purpose of the business and building owners and
and is sensitive to residences and visitors as well as the character of the hamlets..
Although we cannot get into any specific details yet the town and your Chamber have discussed
things such as:






The types of signs allowed in various zoning districts
Defining those districts
Window displays
Scrolling & Morphing Digital signs
A-Frames
Having a pamphlet on signage code distributed by the town (both in print and
on the town’s website)
The Chamber values your membership and wants you to flourish. If you would like to give us some
input or even join the LAB work committee, please contact the Chamber office and leave a message
for the Chairs of the committee.

Growing Your Business
If you are like most small businesses, it is
important to grow your business from year

importance of tracking your results. In line

referred to you by those that they trust. For
most businesses, referrals are just plain luck.
Before I go into some of the techniques for
getting referrals it is important that you are a
company that is deserving of those referrals.
The most important aspect is always doing
what you say you will do. Always say please
and thank you! Show up on time!
Business
The two easiest groups to sell to are past
buyers and customers referred by people they
know and trust. Past buyers, if they were
happy with your product or service will be
more than happy to buy from you again when
they are ready. When they are ready (the
client or customer) to buy your product or service you want
to be in front of them in a big way.

Emails with useful content mixed with your services
Your existing group of clients is your first referral base. You
can offer an ethical bribe to get your customers to refer their
family, friends and co-workers to buy from your company. I
routinely offer my clients $20.00 to as much as 10% of the
first sale for their referrals. Let me repeat myself. You must
be a company deserving of referrals.
This next technique will be dependent on the type of
business you have. This strategy uses other businesses to help
move their customers and clients to you. I have a cleaning
company. These are some of the types of businesses that send
customers and clients to me. We have realtors, dry cleaners,
carpet and area rug dealers and plumbers. I can help you start
a referral campaign. Just give us a call.

The Examiner
The third strategy for growing your business is having an
upsell. According to marketing expert Joe Polish the best
time to make a sale is right after you make a sale. What do
you have that would be a complimentary product or service
that can be offered right after you make a sale? This strategy
has no cost to your bottom line. It will be pure profit. With
our company when making a carpet cleaning sale we may
offer our window cleaning services. When we get a new
housecleaning client we will offer our carpet cleaning
services. What can you offer?
Well, what are you waiting for? What can you do to grow
your business this year? I want to help you grow your
business! Remember if you need help with your marketing
give the Positive Zone a call at 845-490-3864. Marketing is
the back bone to increasing revenue and profits.
