YOUR HIGHNESS REIGNS
FABRICE SOLOUY’s outstanding mare Your Highness returned to winning
form with a comfortable
victory in the Prix Europole de Competitivite
at La Capelle on Sunday.
The UET Masters Series
Group II race drew 10 of
Europe’s top sprinters including five Group I winners
in Billie de Montfort, Black
d’Avril, Booster Winner, Robert Bi and Aladin d’Ecajeul,
the latter two, placegetters
in last week’s Prix de Washington.
Frederick Prat’s Black
d’Avril won the early duel for
the front but Your Highness
surged past down the back
straight to take control of the
race until the closing stages.
In the final straight Black
d’Avril pulled out to challenge but was soon struggling as Orja Kihlstrom calmly let out the reins and Your
Highness cruised to the line
two lengths clear.
Booster Winner charged
home for second while Billie de Montfort stayed on
for third with Black d’Avril
fourth.
The victory took the P.V.

FRENCH FACT
France has a centralised
racing programme with most
major races being held at it’s
governing body LeTrot’s major track, Paris-Vincennes.
LeTrot runs four tracks,
Vincennes, Enghien, Caen
and Cabourg while the other
230 racetracks are autonomous while receiving their
purse funding from LeTrot.
All the major regional
tracks have important races, This weekend saw two
regional tracks hold their
glamour events, with Vichy ‘s
only Group II, the Grand Prix
du Conseil Municpal while
La Capell staged the Prix Europole de Competivite.
Sauveur claims Ulf Thoresen International
Ake Lindblom’s Sauveur
claimed the Ulf Thoresen
Grand International at Jarlsberg in Sweden on the weekend.
A swag of punters hopes
went west when BBS Sugarlight broke on the first turn
while Uhlf Olsson on Papagyo
E (Coktail Jet) grabbed control down the back straight
and set a torrid pace.
Ake Lindblom took Sauveur
(Echo) forward to sit parked
on the hot pace set by Papagayo E and loomed up to
challenge on the turn.
Papagayo E folded shortly
after the turn .as Sauveur got
to the front and comfortably
held off the challenge of a
fast closing Ringostarr Treb
(Classic Photo) while Rod
Stewart (Love You) also finished well for third.
Sauveur, who was the sec-
ond favourite, went a slick
1’11”2
(1.54.3) for the
2100m trip.
Johnny Johansson’s tough
veteran Harry Haythrow outstayed pacesetter Solvato
in the gold division race at
Halmstead on Saturday.
Stefan Sodjerkvist had held
a commanding lead on the
well-bred US import Solvato
(Donato Hanover) but Harry
Haythrow came off his back
in the straight and then held
of the charge form Spring
Erom (Gentle Star) to win.
Solvato faded to third.
Meanwhile Uncle Lasse’s
trainer Stefan Melander was
comparing his new stable
star Uncle Lasse with Nuncio
and Scarlet night after the US
import had earned the trainer his fourth Group I SprinterMästaren at Halmstad last
week.
