CONGRESSMAN RALPH HALL
GEORGE E. HADDAWAY AWARD RECIPIENT FOR ACHIEVEMENT IN AVIATION
CONGRESSMAN RALPH HALL
Congressman Ralph Hall, representing the 4th District of Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives
since 1980, has served as a member and Chairman of the Committee on Science, Space and
Technology for 30 years.
The Science, Space and Technology Committee has supported America’s scientific enterprise and will
continue to play a key role in meeting our nation’s challenges in the years to come.
Congressman Hall has been a champion for NASA, leading policy direction for the Shuttle, ISS,
Constellation, Orion, and SLS, along with many other NASA programs. His legislative efforts have
included:
• Promoting science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education
• Ensuring sound science precedes any regulations imposed by the Administration
• Advancing research and development (R&D) for new technologies to keep America competitive
• Expanding production of America’s abundant energy resources and seeking alternative sources to
reduce costs and increase national security
• Maintaining America’s preeminence in space
At the beginning of the 113th Congress, Congressman Hall was named Chairman Emeritus of the
House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, following his service as Chairman of the
Committee in the 112th Congress.
On November 27, 2012, Congressman Hall became the oldest member in the U.S. House of
Representatives to ever cast a vote. The following month, on December 25, 2012, he became the
oldest-serving Member of the U.S. House of Representatives in recorded history.

THE GEORGE E. HADDAWAY AWARD
The George E. Haddaway Award is presented by the Frontiers of
Flight Museum each year to those who have distinguished themselves
by their accomplishments in the realm of flight as pilots, aircrew
members, corporate or political leadership, engineering, education,
or literature.
GEORGE E. HADDAWAY
George E. Haddaway was a prominent fixture in the north Texas
aviation scene for decades as a pilot and aviation journalist.
For forty years, beginning in 1934, he was publisher of the area’s
most successful aviation magazine, Southwest Aviation, which
underwent several name changes to reflect his observations as the
area’s aviation industry matured. His years of publishing brought Mr.
Haddaway into contact with aeronautical legends such as “Jimmy”
Doolittle, Charles Lindbergh and Wiley Post, among others, and
Haddaway accumulated a wealth of aviation-related memorabilia and
archives.
With this vast treasure trove of books, photographs, and papers, he
was the driving force behind the formation of the History of Aviation
Collection. The collection is now housed at the McDermott Library of
the University of Texas at Dallas.
The many significant three-dimensional artifacts he acquired formed
the basis for the founding of the Frontiers of Flight Museum to house
and display these priceless aeronautical heirlooms.

THE DOCUMENTARY FILM
THE HONORARY CHAIRS
“SPACE”
WALTER CUNNINGHAM
Presented by BOEING.
Walter Cunningham has enjoyed careers in the United
States Marine Corps, with the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration and private industry. In
1967, Walt was a member of the backup crew for
Apollo 1. When the prime crew was killed in a fire on
the pad, he was assigned to the first manned flight of
the Apollo Program — Apollo 7. Following the Apollo 7
mission, he served as Chief of the Skylab Astronauts.
The documentary film explores the history of the
U.S. Space Program, from the early days of the
Gemini and Apollo Missions to the research and
development being done on the International Space
Station. Three astronauts share personal and often
poetic accounts of the space program’s challenges
and achievements during Congressman Hall’s thirty
year tenure on the Committee on Science, Space and
Technology of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Walter Cunningham, Apollo 7; Tom Henricks, STS44, STS-55, STS-70, STS-78; Mary Ellen Weber,
STS-70, STS-101; and students of the Frontiers of
Flight Museum’s Flight School are featured in the
film.
Produced by Frontiers of Flight Museum. A Lonely
Standard Production. A Wheeler Sparks Film.
