DayBreak Artists Continued...
they thought they had no artistic abilities, but once they became involved
in the art program started to develop their own flair for art.
“Each piece is unique to the artist,” Munn said. “All of their artwork
is worthy of being shown in any art museum. They went through three
months of work, and they showed off a variety of work.”
Munn continued saying this show exceeded far beyond his expectations.
“I’m looking forward to the Summer Art Show and the anticipation of
new projects that we will be working on and hope we match what we
did here in the spring.”
The DayBreak program at Elder Care promotes group and one-on-one
activities that enhance the development of friendships and mental stimulation for seniors in the area. Hobbies and special interests, such as music, dancing, gardening, field trips, sporting events and arts and crafts are
every day occurrences. DayBreak gives caretakers a chance to enjoy a
chance to rest and relax to help maintain their own health and strength.
“I think it’s neat because we are all at different levels, and we each bring
our own different pieces to the show,” Violet Street, DayBreak partici-
pant said. “It has helped me so much to be able to put my emotions
into something and take my mind off of my pain. We all have our
good days and our bad days and this helps us release our emotions
into our work. We have a lot of good laughs and have a good time in
the program.”
Several participants agreed the show was a success and are already
busy working on their new projects for the show.
“We’ve gotten so much out of it; that is the key,” Don Inman, DayBreak participant said. “Some of us take art seriously when we used
to never think about it before we became involved. All you have to
do is participate and you’ll find life is more enjoyable.”
The Summer Art Show will be held at Elder Care on 1223 Swan
Dr. on August 12. For more information, please call 918-336-8500.

COMMUNITY RESOURCE CORNER
Do you know of any FREE or COMMUNITY RESOURCES for seniors and/or their caregivers?
Email us at [email protected] and we might put it in the Community Resource Corner!
Each month, Elder Care features services available to seniors and caregivers in our community resource
corner. This month we are featuring a free shred service for seniors offered by EmployAbility. Identity
theft is quickly becoming one of the most organized and costly crimes of our time.
“(You can) reduce the chance of personal ID theft by using a paper shredder to destroy all documents and
files before discarding them,” say experts at www.identity-theft-tips.com, “it has been determined that
criminals are indeed taking their victims trash to sort through and find any personal identification they can
use to assume one’s identity and create new financial transactions at their victim’s expense.”
In Bartlesville, EmployAbility offers a free
document shredding service for senior
citizens. “We are open from 8:00am to
2:00pm, Monday – Friday,” says Cindy
Collins with EmployAbility. “There is no
appointment necessary but we do have a
limit of five pounds of documents per trip
(equivalent to a full paper grocery sack)
per visit.” EmployAbility will not weigh
the documents shredded for senior citizens - so if they are a little over it’s okay!
The shred business is located at the main
office building at 501 SW Virginia. The
phone number is 336-6361 ext. 23.

FIRST ANNUAL SPRING ART SHOW
AT ELDER CARE
Elder Care hosted its first annual “Spring Art Show”
April 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Art Show showcased work done by DayBreak participants in areas of
pastel, charcoal, acrylic to watercolor; landscapes, portraits to figure drawing.
Art Instructor Rohn Munn teaches them a new word
for the day and the participants spend the day drawing
using the lesson of the day.
“We’ve done everything from art history to perspectives and shading,” Munn said. “Each day I teach them a
specific lesson or word to use in their drawings. For example, one day I showed them how to draw using lines,
so their task for the day was to create a piece using
only lines. Another day we talked about different areas
of shading, and I had them draw the shading on a man’s
face. The results are really spectacular.”
Munn also said many of the participants had told him

Arwood and other participants have won many ribbons for
their artistic achievements.

Elder Care’s Newest
Physical Therapist
has Experience
Beyond his Years
Did you always know what you
wanted to be when you grew up?
A fireman? A doctor? An astronaut? Not many people always
grow up becoming what they
dreamed of as a youngster.
Most of us are taken down a
different road in life’s journey
following a different dream.
For Beau Rapp, he knew from
a young boy he always wanted to
be involved with physical therapy.
Beau always had the vision to
become a physical therapist and to
work with seniors. He also knew
he wanted to stay in Oklahoma.
Beau came to Elder Care with
a vast amount of experience in
the field of physical therapy. In
August 2000, he graduated from
the physical therapist assistant
program at Colby Community
College. He worked as a physical
therapist assistant at Southwest
Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas
for four years. He then decided
to return to school to become a
physical therapist. His dedication to therapy did not stop there.
While attending school, he worked
