President’s Corner
Fellow members, here is a recent aerial view
of the course compliments of Steve Foster.
We have a couple neat shots that we are
going to blow up & put up in the club house.
Well July 1st nears. It represents “hump day”
for the Board as we are halfway thru the
year. We started with five goals. First, was
to “let’s make it fun again” in reaction to the
pall that was over the club due to the
handicap system. Some of that negativism
still exists, but with new activities such as
TGIF events and downplaying the use of
handicaps in most of our golf events, fun,
laughter & good times are taking place. The
member-member event takes place next
month. It will not use handicaps, read about
it in the newsletter. Let’s “make it rock.”
The second major focus is on our finances.
Thanks to many people, we are in a good
financial position at the moment. We need
to bring that home on the back 9 of the year.
The third major focus is on our membership
level. You eagled that goal as we now sit at
33 members over last year.
The fourth focus is on the development &
maintenance of the club’s facilities & golf
course. The golf course part of that goal
shines. Tim Critchfield and Cj Rylands are
leading the effort to achieve the facilities
part of this goal. This goal will be a focus for
the second part of the year.
Thanks to Chris Critchfield, our publicity &
marketing goal is well in hand.
The final goal is your participation via the
“looking for eagles” initiative. We have
several eagles that have stepped forward for
the BCC. We need more. Are you one?

TGIF Golf Update: The new TGIF
activity began in June with a Barbeque
Smorgasbord & Scramble on June 4
hosted by Tim Critchfield, & Twilight
Golf & Pizza on June 25 hosted by James
& Debbie Huber.
48 members came out for the initial
TGIF event. While I (Al) was hauling in
the fish in Canada, members were
chowing down on finger-licking food
and enjoying some competitive, fun golf.
The team of Kyle/Judy & Derry/Karen
Lane & Todd Whitehair won in a sudden
death playoff. Thanks to a chip in by
Chris Brady his team of Jeff/Susan Ford
Joe Hughes & Scott Collett took 2nd.
On 6/25, 34 golfers showed up for a fun
2-person scramble where players
selected 4 clubs and could only play
with those clubs, players could not
swap. After the round, players dined on
Sam’s pizza. 24 golfers then took to the
course for some twilight golf. As it got
dark, glow sticks & necklaces, & lighted
golf balls were seen throughout the
moonlit golf course as players competed
in a traditional scramble playing from
the forward tees. Jerry and Christian
McKisic took first place in both events.
Kenny & Crystal Tenney took runner-up
honors in the 4-club scramble and Chris
Brady & Steve Collette came 2nd in the
twilight golf scramble.
Participating members have enjoyed
this new summer TGIF activity. There
are 3 more TGIF events set for July, the
next one being a summer theme. The
food will be picnic style with burgers,
hot dogs, fixins, dessert & FREE beer.
The golf format is a “sand scramble.” If
you can’t make it to the beach, come and
play in the sand at the BCC.

that the Fred Eberle Vo-Tech Center is
closed until late August.
Budweiser Sponsors Hole-in-One
Contest: All BCC players shooting a
hole-in-one will have their names put
into a hat for the opportunity to win a

Players, my crew and I need your help
with a couple things. First, If we are out
on the course working & you are
approaching us, please don’t hit toward
us until we wave you on. We’ve had a
couple close calls. Also, please keep the
rakes in the traps. That will help us
considerablly when we are mowing.
Thanks for continuing to help us make
the course look good.

Mystery Scramble: On 7/18 starting at
1:00 pm, the Golf Committee will conduct
a Mystery Scramble. The format will not
be announced until about 12:45 that day.
Come on out and enjoy the mysterious
fun
Shootout:
On
7/24&25,
Charlie
Carpenter will attempt to defend his
Shootout title. Last year, Charlie bested
Chris Brady on the 18th hole. What is the
shootout? It is a handicap tournament
that starts on 7/24 with a qualifying
round. The 10 lowest net scorers qualify
for Sunday’s shootout. All ten qualifiers
tee off together on the first hole. Players
are eliminated as they shoot a higher
score on a hole than their opponents. Play
continues until one golfer is left standing.

I am pleased to introduce Carrie Barton as
the newest member of my staff. Some of
you might remember Carrie as she worked
here for about 6 years before going off to
Maryland to teach 5-6 years ago. She
recently returned and will be teaching at
B-UHS this fall and is happy to be back at
BCC. She commented “I am glad to be back
and it feels like I’m back with my family.”
2010 Member-Member Event
In 2008, we had 16 men’s & 4 women’s
teams participating in member-member.
In 2009, there were 14 men’s, 2
women’s and 2 senior teams. 20 and 18
teams respectively is a direct impact of
the handicap dissatisfaction that has
existed the past few years. The teams
that did participate seemed to have a
good time, but there still was discontent
over handicaps.
The member-member event should be
the “funnest” event we hold all year. It
has been said that “member-member
use to rock.”
While one cannot
reconstruct the past, we as a club can
put a new stamp of fun on this and
future year’s events.
Holt Poling volunteered to take the lead
on creating a totally new format for this
year’s event, one that does not involve
handicaps. Holt is well on his way to
formalizing the event. The details of the
tournament will be finalized and
communicated to you by mid-July.
On July 9, Savanah Lowe will also be
joining my team. Please make them feel
welcomed.
Golfers, I need your help. Please use the
spike cleaner so that you don’t track debris
into the clubhouse. Thank you.
We are looking to having another special
dining evening on Saturday night like we
just had with the member-guest event.
We are also are planning a fun Friday
evening to kick the event off in style.
Here’s the dinner menu entree for July
Men’s League & Friday Night dinners:
7/7 – Meat Lasagna
7/9 – Baked Chicken/Stuffed Pork chops
7/14 – Baby Back Ribs
7/21 - Fish Fry
7/23 – Rib Eye steaks
7/28 - Stuffed Pork chops

Golf Humor: Last week, Bud Mick had just
completed playing at The Club at
Nevillewood, an exclusive country club
outside of Pittsburgh. The locker room
attendant took Bud’s golf shoes to clean.
The attendant said “where did you get
your shoes cleaned last?” Bud said “at
home.” The attendant said “if I had more
time, I’d get the polish out of the cracks.”
Bud said, “no problem, I’ll tell my wife.”

What we need is your participation. If
you have read previous newsletters, the
dates for the event will not be a surprise
as each month there has been a
reminder on the date of the event. We
are going to work hard to make this our
signature event for the year. The Board
and Holt hope that we can get 25 teams
to participate and many more will come
out to the evening activities. Help us
make this a special BCC memory.
