LOCAL SITE VISIT
Diamond Hill Crematorium
Won the Hong Kong Institute of Architects Merit Award of 2009 and Quality
Building Merit Award of 2010 (Hong Kong non-residential category)
Commissioned in 1979 with 4 cremators until 1985 with addition of 2
cremators to cope with the demand.
Reprovisioned in June 2007 with 6 new cremators (4 standard type
and 2 large type), 4 service halls (3 Chinese type and 1 Western type),
and other facilities including bone pulverizing machine, mortuary,
underground coffin circulation tunnel, automatic coffin transportation
system, smokeless joss paper burners and lily ponds, etc.
Site staff of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department are responsible
for the operation of the cremators, and the process is monitored through on-line
and CCTV system to ensure compliance of the air pollution control regulations.

Gravestone-Computer Epitaph integrated into the tombstone or installed as a separate unit at the burial place.
Epitaph, the first outdoor touch computer worldwide, offers flexible display control to visualize texts, pictures, graphics, videos or
interactive contents on tombs, tombstones or information platforms.
A full colour and particularly bright display, which is suitable for outdoor use, is controlled by a computer board. This pure digital control
provides excellent image quality. The processor can be activated by a motion sensor and automatically starts the presentation created
by the user. The data can be stored either on a USB stick or centrally transmitted to the device via Gigabit-Ethernet or WLAN. The
replaceable CF memory card offers enough capacity for the operating system and application software.
The housing of the device can be completely integrated into the tombstone while the touch display is protected from the elements or
other external influences by a vandal-proof glass panel.
The processor as well as power unit and touch display are all designed to be exposed to direct sunlight or temperatures ranging from
-40°C up to +80°C.
