About Houle
Houle effluent equipment is designed to process
effluent and utilise if more efficiently.
Dairy farm effluent is a valuable resource. We use it to maximise pasture growth,
reduce fertiliser costs and increase milk profit.
With a Houle effluent management system, you can manage effluent storage
better, make valuable nutrients go further, be more flexible with grazing, and
lower stress levels during the busy periods.
You can also significantly reduce fresh water usage and associated costs with the
ability to recycle water for wash down.

Separation
Separating effluent into solid and liquid components
makes managing your effluent easier; more efficient
storage, less maintenance, greater flexibility for
application and the ability to recycle water.
Houle has developed the ultimate range of separators than can be used stand
alone or in configurations with other separators, to suit any farming system.
Slope screen separator uses a sloped stainless steel screen to remove solids from
a lower consistency effluent stream
XPress Roller Press squeezes liquid from higher consistency solids between a
perforated stainless steel roller and rubber roller, for higher dry matter output

Slope Screen Separator
Removes solids from an effluent stream
Key benefits / features
• No moving parts
• Simple maintenance, low cost operation
• Reduces wear and blockages of pumps, effluent lines and irrigator nozzles
• Less fresh water usage by recycling ‘green water’ for yard wash down
“Due to the design and the total
lack of moving parts the minimal
R&M that is required gives me
the time and money to spend
elsewhere in my business”.
Simon Belton - Te Poi
• Easier pond management with less solid settling and surface crusting
• Improved liquid storage capability
• Allows low application rate irrigation
• Assists soil infiltration rates, meaning pasture becomes suitable for
grazing sooner
• Nutrient load management options with effluent application possible
beyond usual areas
• Organic matter value from separated solids
GEA Farm Technologies | 5
How it operates
• The Houle Slope Screen Separator is installed on a platform above a
concrete solids bunker
• The effluent enters the rear of the separator (via a purpose built manual
flow regulator) so an even and suitable flow of effluent is distributed
across the top of the screen panel
• As the effluent falls down the screen, liquid drains through the wire screen,
while solids slide down the face of the screen into the bunker below
• Gravity moves the screened liquid from the separator to a storage pond
Additional information
• Flow rates vary up to 600L/min depending on consistency
• Separated liquid only contains suspended solids less than 1mm
(99% < 1mm & 92% < 0.5mm)
• Solids being removed may vary from 7% -13% dry matter initially then
further drying in the concrete bunker
• Standard Slope Screen Separator size 4ft, with an 8ft option also available
where higher flow rates are required (up to 2400L/min)
• We recommend that effluent be prepared for separation with Houle
transfer equipment

Xpress Roller Press
Removes liquid from a solids stream
Key benefits
• Separates slurries into a distinct liquid faction and solids faction
• Solids ‘drier’ and easier to store, liquids ‘wetter’ and easier to pump
• Solids suitable for immediate spreading as solid organic fertiliser
• Flexibility for carting solids immediately post separation
• Easy cleaning non-sticking stainless steel chute and steel roller
“We are system 5 high input
milking 1600 cows - the solids
coming off the rollers are exactly
the consistency we were looking
for - about 24% DM. This allows
us to cart it down a public road
and spread it straight away”.
Kristian Funnell - Manawatu
• Pressure control system available to vary dry matter % output
• Heavy duty components for a long lasting operation
• Low power consumption (1.1 kW)
• One-piece ½” thick scraper, easily removable at front

8’ Slope Screen Separator.
Above centre: Working principle

Above right: 2ft XPress Roller Press.
Left: High dry matter
output achievable.
How it operates
• Can be used stand alone, in multiple configurations, with a Houle Slope
Screen Separator, or a Houle XTract Horizontal Dewaterer
• Effluent is fed into the roller intake
• The manure passes between two rollers - a rubber roller on top, and a
stainless steel roller with perforations on the bottom
• Liquid drains through the roller perforations and runs off to liquid
storage pond
• Solids exit a stainless steel chute onto storage area
Additional information
• 23-27% dry matter achievable with a single roller press
• Up to 34% dry matter achievable with modular configuration
• Most effective with effluent consistency >10mm
• Available as 2ft, 4ft, 6ft or 8ft wide
• Single or multi stage roller press options offered
• Roller speed can be automatically controlled by manure level and
proximity switch

Flush Systems
Barn cleaning is where it all started for Houle,
so effective flood washing of yards, barns and
feedpads is what we do best.
With a Houle flush system, wash-down can be as quick and easy as pressing a
button. Our specially engineered pumps, pontoons and flush valves are designed
to discharge flush water in high volumes with limited supreme cleaning result.
Time, labour, environmental and economic efficiencies can all be achieved by
using the key elements of a Houle Flush System, including:
• 8” Vertical Flush Pump to efficiently transfer high volumes of flush liquid from
a tank for flood washing a yard area.
• 8” Vertical Flush Pump on Pontoon to transfer recycled flush liquid from a
pond on a safe and stable pontoon
• Flush Valves for even and controlled distribution of flush liquid.
GEA Farm Technologies | 19

Spreaders
For over 18 years, Houle has designed and
manufactured state-of-the-art spreader tanks.
There are both directional and tandem series of Spreaders that have unique
features that have made and continue to make them a success.
Directional (steerable) spreader offers excellent manoeuvrability and control
on all types of terrain.
• Less ground impact when turning
• Exclusive hydraulic power-steering and superior quality suspension
provide more resistance to obstacles
The tandem spreader remains an economical choice.
Also appreciated for its effectiveness, it is manufactured with the same quality
as the directional spreader.
• The GEA Houle tandem axle is closed by a full length central tube,
providing more resistance to twisting than the conventional open
tandem axles
• Specific ‘’V’’ shape design lowers the reservoir, thereby reducing the height
of the centre of gravity for greater stability and reducing flex on the axles
• Mounting system of the adjustable tandem under the tank can move
the wheels forward to decrease the load on the draw bar or back to
increase the load

PTO Equipment
The PTO range of equipment includes various
high performance, powerful PTO pumps and
agitators to handle the most demanding
conditions. These have been designed for
handling thick effluent built up over time from
intensive farming systems.
The pumps and agitators are capable of stirring, chopping and transferring
high volumes of thick effluent for distribution.
A range of pumps are available depending on the task. The Maxi-Pump is
specifically designed for agitating above ground tanks. The Agi-Pump and
Super Pump are particularly useful for mixing ponds, pits, or in ground tanks.
They then can also transfer effluent into an irrigation / umbilical slurry system
or to fill a Houle Spreader.
Various features make the job easy such as the remote control system to
operate the pumps. Big demanding jobs become a one man operation.
