Secrets of the Sand
The pristine, white sand of the Emerald Coast has a fascinating origination. The majority of the sand
on our beaches is made up of quartz crystals produced by the weathering of the Appalachian Mountains. The
quartz travels down via the Apalachicola River into the Gulf of Mexico. The quartz is then swept to the coast by
water currents and waves, creating the beautiful beaches of the Emerald Coast that provide us with a sanctuary

The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation (MKAF) is a

Destin is known as the World’s Luckiest Fishing
Village. The Destin Fishing Rodeo is Destin’s
longest held tradition. Each year, the rodeo
begins on October 1 and runs through
