FROM THE WEST OFFICE
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It feels as if summer has just begun; yet the start to the 2015
school year is very much in sight. The start of the school
year always awakens the normal emotions: excitement,
curiosity, nervousness, anxiety, and pleasure knowing that
everything will be fresh. Parents, take comfort in knowing
that your children are experiencing the same emotions. Plans
are well underway to welcome the class of 2019 to Cherry
Creek High School: construction, renovations, scrubbing,
cleaning, hiring, learning, reflecting on success, and making adjustments to ensure that we are prepared to provide
your children with the best education possible. Our faculty, staff, and administrators are committed to maintaining
the tradition of excellence as well as staying ahead of the
game to ensure that our students leave us educated adults
who are prepared for the world in which they will live.
The 6th of August is the freshmen check-in day. The
students will move from station to station that include photos,
student ID, purchase of yearbook if desired, and the return of
materials included in the summer packet. A number of adults
and students will assist the students as they navigate the
check-in process. We request that parents wait for their child
in the Hospitality Room. Here, parents will be able to ask
questions of other parents, all of whom are PTCO members,
and learn more information about everything “Cherry Creek.”
On Wednesday, August 12th, ninth grade students are
expected to attend Freshmen Orientation. The day begins
with a class assembly in the Fine Arts Theater and is followed by an abbreviated school day. The day is designed
to give the students practice navigating the campus without
the upper-classmen in attendance and an opportunity to
meet their teachers. The day ends with a pizza party that
is hosted by the Creek Connects mentor students and the
Creek 101 Faculty Advisors. Our school store, Bear Necessities, will be open in the event your child needs to purchase
any vital materials. Please know that the Bear Necessities
is open every school day to make it more convenient for
you and your child when it comes to school supplies or
Creek Gear. Plus, all the money goes back to the students.
The orientation of Cherry Creek continues throughout the first semester in the form of Creek 101. This
is a seminar that is designed to help students transition
into the school and educate themselves with everything
“Cherry Creek.” Additionally, the students begin to build
a relationship with their faculty advisor who teaches
the course. Besides focusing on a successful transition, the students will also work on their Creek Plan and
be introduced to Naviance, our college-planning tool.
So, what advice do I have for you and your child as you
prepare for the start of high school? First, enjoy the summer
and each other. There are many influences that affect your
child as they mature into young adults, but I firmly believe
that parents are the driving force that determines who the child
becomes. A strong relationship with your child, coupled with
a partnership with the school will more often end in success.
Next, support your child so they may start their career off
on the right foot. The first step towards making this piece of
advice a reality is completing the summer reading for English,
which can be found on the school’s website. Also, encourage
your child to get involved in the non-traditional classroom. We
have over 90 clubs for students to pick from and we have 26
athletic programs, nine of which are non-cut. The focus in the
non-traditional classroom is to allow students to explore their
passions, be leaders, and, most of all, learn life-long lessons that
will help our students later in life. Finally, be sure you and your
child develop and value relationships over the next four years.
Your children will meet new people who will be their friends
well after they leave Cherry Creek High School. The high
school experience will be enhanced if your child connects with
adults at the school-whether it be a teacher, coach, security guard
or an administrator-we are all here because we enjoy working
with children. I also encourage you to find other parents who
you trust to ask questions and do not hesitate to contact any of
us at the school with any question or concern you may have.
I am excited for the start of the school year and to welcome the
class of 2019 to Cherry Creek High School. I have high expectations
for this class and they will always hold a special spot in my heart.
Sincerely,
Ryan T. Silva
Principal

Accountability Committee
The Cherry Creek High School Accountability Committee meets one Tuesday evening per month from
5-6:30 pm in the West Main Office Conference Room.
We review how CCHS is meeting its accountability goals for excellence and equity, for college
and post-secondary success, for a safe and caring environment, and for partnering with students,
parents and community members in the education
process. Each meeting generally includes a guest
speaker on a special topic of interest, a report from
Principal Ryan Silva, an update on Creek’s UIP (Unified Improvement Plan), and a brief report from the
District Accountability Committee representative.
The first meeting this year is on Tuesday evening, September 15th. Principal Ryan Silva will give an update
on all new facilities at CCHS that are occurring thanks
to the success of the 2012 bond election, and he will
lead a brief tour to show us the progress first hand.

PTCO
(Parent/Teacher/Community Organization)
We hope you are enjoying your summer! As we begin to think about and plan for the 2015-2016 school year we would like to
extend a very special welcome to all of our incoming freshmen and all new families to Creek. We look forward to meeting
everyone when you return in the fall.
As a Parent Teacher Community Organization (PTCO), our job is to keep you informed and connected on everything happening
at CCHS. We would like to highlight one critical step necessary as you fill out online information for the check-in process to
ensure that we are able to provide you with relevant and timely communication.
You will soon be receiving information letters from the Cherry Creek School District and from Cherry Creek High School.
In order to register your student(s) for next year there are two sites necessary to visit: FIRST the Cherry Creek School District
site, https://my.cherrycreekschools.org where you will be told to click onto the Parent Forms tab. Here you will enter your
home address, phone number and name. There will also be a button that asks if you want to share information with the
school’s PTCO. This will authorize both the administration and our PTCO to use your email contact information to share
important school wide communications. If your student is the one filling out these online forms, please remind them to
“Opt In” for school communications. Without the “Opt In” we are unable to send you updates from Principal Silva, parent
meeting announcements, and other pertinent information, including the monthly Home Herald newsletter.
PTCO SUPPORT: The Bear Tracks Student Directory is available for $15, which can be pre-purchased on your check-in fee
form. This year we are adding emails for each family in a section at the back of the directory. Because the CCSD calendar is
changing this year, we are printing a Creek Parent Planner, complete with the most important dates of the school year. The
Creek Parent Planner can be pre-purchased on your check-in form separately ($10) or bundled with the Bear Tracks Student
Directory ($20 for both). Please order the number of directories and calendars that you would like and we will have them
available for you to pick up at Back to School Night!
Additionally, Friends of PTCO is our other main fundraiser, which allows us to support the following needs of the school:
 Bear Facts (CCHS student planner)
 Teacher Grants for classroom support and programs
 Teacher and Staff appreciation events and recognition
Please consider making a contribution to help us maintain the tradition of excellence at CCHS.
Bear Track Student Directory and Creek Parent Planner purchases as well as Friends of PTCO donations can be completed
on the FEE WORKSHEET FORM in your online check-in packet.
We wish you and your student a wonderful experience for the 2015-2016 school year! Please contact us if there is
anything we can help you with along the way!

2015-2016 School Year
IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION FROM PTCO
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We are pleased to let you know that as a parent or guardian of a CCHS student, you
are automatically a member of the Parent Teacher Community Organization (PTCO). The organization’s role is to help attain
the highest level of education and well-being for the entire student body. PTCO also strives to help parents and community
members connect with the school. Below are some ways to get involved and stay informed:
PTCO meetings: Meetings are generally scheduled on the 1st Thursday of each month, September through May, at 9:00 a.m.
in the Fine Arts Theater Lobby or the IC Community Rooms (by the Library). Our first meeting of this school year will be August
27, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the IC Community Room. We will also hold at least two evening meetings during the school year.
Friends of PTCO: This is our primary fundraiser and is designed to support educational classroom needs beneficial to a majority of students. These contributions fund Bear Facts (student handbook), staff appreciation, Red Ribbon Week, Creek 101
(freshmen program) and additional programs and needs as requested by teachers and administrators.
Please see the Fees for Check-In Sheet when you print your Creek registration forms; any and all amounts are greatly
appreciated!
Volunteering: Whether you have a few hours a week or month, we need you. All volunteer opportunities will be listed on our
weekly “Week at Creek” emails, sent out every Friday morning. Look for the “Volunteers Needed” section if you’d like to help!
Home Herald: Is the monthly parent newsletter published on the school website. The newsletter is a timely resource to keep
you informed on important issues. Features include an update from our principal, academic highlights, school activities, District
news and a calendar of school events. The Home Herald is posted on the CCHS web site under the Parent tab and also distributed via the Week at Creek email. You must opt in on the ‘Household Info’ tab on the District Online Check-in Form to
receive any and all school communications from CCHS.
Bear Facts: Partially funded by PTCO, this time management tool for students also holds a wealth of information about student
academics, behavior, discipline and athletic policies, guidance and counseling information, activities, as well as test-taking and
study skills tips. The centerpiece of the book is a day-timer.
Bear Tracks: This is the student directory published by the PTCO. Bear Tracks is a valuable parent resource. It contains not
only student information, but also school department, staff and teacher phone numbers and emails, club information and contacts, and the various school day schedules. It is available at Back-to-School Night in August and throughout the year at the
bookstore.
We hope this information will help you connect with CCHS. Please feel free to contact us with questions or comments.

Food Service at Cherry Creek
Cherry Creek High School operates two food court-style cafeterias on campus to meet the dining needs
of our students during all periods of the day. The Bruin Bistro is located in the West Building, and The
Creek Café is located in the IC Building. CCSD Foods & Nutrition Services operates full meal service in
both locations, providing breakfast and lunch during periods 1, 4, 5, and 6. Cherry Creek’s DECA Program
for marketing students also operates in both locations, selling food during periods 2, 3, 7, and 8. Pricing
and menus are available on line at the CCSD website under Foods & Nutrition Services. The information
can be accessed directly at ccsdcafe.org. Free and Reduced meals are available to all students who
qualify. An application for free/reduced meals can be submitted online at ccsdcafe.org, or a written
application can be obtained from the Food Service Manager in the Bruin Bistro.
All students are assigned a PIN number to access their personal food service account, and money can be
loaded onto this account for daily use. The PIN number allows students and parents to put money into
the student account for food purchases at both the Bruin Bistro and the Creek Café during regular meal
times. To load money onto student accounts, cash or a check may be submitted directly to the Food
Service Manager in the Bruin Bistro, or parents may load money via the PAY PAMS system on the district
website. A picture ID may be requested at time of purchase to confirm PIN number ownership. The
DECA food service option is a la carte and operates on a cash-only basis, and the PIN number is not
required for purchase. For any questions regarding PIN usage, please contact Food Service Manager
Garrett Croom at 720-554-2326. For any questions regarding the food service program in general, please
contact Beth Wallace, Director of Food & Nutrition Services at 720-886-7173,

Cherry Creek High School STUDENT VEHICLE
REGISTRATION, OPERATION AND Parking Information
2015-2016
Dear Students and Parents,
Carefully review the following procedures concerning parking and complete all steps of the process to
be eligible for a parking permit.
Parking on the CCHS campus is restricted to eligible students who:
 Register their vehicle(s) with campus security. Only students with a valid driver’s license may
apply for a parking permit (decal). Learner’s permits will not be accepted.
 Complete the CCHS Parking Application (available in the security office or on the CCHS website
 Students  Parking Application). Include a copy of your current valid driver’s license and a
copy of the vehicle registration. The student and parent must sign and date the application.
 Pay for and obtain a parking decal. The cost of a parking permit is $50 for the school year and is
reduced to $25 at the beginning of the second semester. The cost for a permit after January will
be prorated (February = $20, March = $15, April = $10, May = $5). Payment will be accepted at
the bookkeeping office.
Information about decals:
 Affix the decal to the lower right windshield of the vehicle. The decal may not be taped onto the
windshield or affixed in any manner other than with the decal adherent.
 All seniors and juniors (sophomores after the first semester) without previous parking restrictions
or any outstanding school fines are eligible to obtain decals. Any student who is parked in a
designated handicap spot with a handicap permit must also display a school parking decal.
Parking is available to sophomores after all eligible upperclassman have had an opportunity to
purchase decals. After the first semester, parking for eligible sophomores will be released based
on the contingency of parking spaces available.
 Parking decals are non-transferable. Each decal is issued to an individual student for a specific
vehicle. If a student who has received a parking decal drives any vehicle other than the vehicle to
which the decal is registered, he/she must obtain a temporary decal from the security office. The
temporary decal must be placed in the lower right hand corner of the windshield prior to the
beginning of the student’s school day.

REGISTRATION, OPERATION AND Parking Information
2015-2016
Loss of parking privileges:
 Any student who obtains a parking decal, whether temporary or permanent, and transfers it to
another student will lose his/her parking privileges for the remainder of the school year. The
student who received the transferred decal(s) will be ineligible to receive a parking decal the
following school year for a period of 20 school days or longer from the beginning of the school
year.
 Any vehicle parked on campus without a valid parking decal is subject to a parking boot and/or
tow at the owner’s expense.
 Students who falsify any information on their applications will have their applications withdrawn
and will be referred to their dean. Parking on campus is a privilege. In order to maintain the
privilege and ensure we have adequate parking spaces for those students who have purchased
parking permits, our parking policies will be strictly enforced.
Parking expectations:
 Students may only park in the lots designated for student parking. Students must always park
between the two white lines. Students can never park in faculty or visitor areas. Students must
not park on sidewalks, grass, dirt, “snow mountains” during the winter and next to curbs painted
yellow or red. Students are not allowed to drive on sidewalks on campus unless authorized to do
so.
 Student operated vehicles are subject to visual inspection and may be subject to search by school
security personnel, school administration and/or police.
 Students may not remain in any vehicles that are parked on campus during the school day
 Parking is available on a first come, first serve basis. Students are not guaranteed a parking
space in a specific location. Available parking includes designated areas to the west of the Stutler
Bowl.

ATHLETICS
The 2014-2015 school year and athletic seasons were
great for the Bruins. As we celebrate those seniors and the
great seasons many of our teams had, we also look ahead to
the next school year as it will be here before you know it.
The athletic office will open on Monday July 27th.
We will begin taking registrations on July 28th. In order
to participate in fall sports you need to be registered by
August 14th. After August 14th your child will be held
out of tryouts due to registration not being complete.
There are three parts to completing athletic registration.
Parents need to register their athletes online with the parent
login information. You can now also pay your $90 athletic
fee online if you desire. The final part is the athletic physical. This hard copy needs to be turned into the athletic office
which is located in West 89. We will not take your physical
unless your $90 fee is paid and you have registered online.
The athletic department has also revamped our website. You
will need to register under the Athletics tab, under your sport so
that we can send you practice and game information and changes.
The Athletic Office will be open for registration from
8:00 am until 3:00 pm on the weekdays. If you have any
questions please contact the athletic office at 720-5542461 starting July 27th or email Athletic Director Jason
Wilkins at [email protected]. Go Bruins!

ACTIVITIES
Hello Bruins!
As summer wraps up and the school year begins, I want to
remind you all about the amazing opportunities that students
at Cherry Creek have when they begin school in the fall.
First, please remember to pay your activities fee
at check in! This fee benefits ALL students at Cherry
Creek. When you pay this fee, your child(ren) also
get into regular season games for free, they get reduced rates for dances and other events, and they help
fund OVER 100 clubs and organizations at Creek.
Additionally, we have planned our Club Fair for
Wednesday, September 2nd during periods 4, 5 & 6. This
is a great opportunity for your students to learn more
about all of the extra-curricular offerings at CCHS.
Finally, mark your calendars for HOMECOMING
WEEK! This year Homecoming week will be October
5-10 with our Homecoming game against Overland
on Friday the 9th and our Homecoming dance on Saturday the 10th from 8:30-11:30 p.m. at CCHS.
See you August 13th!
