In my capacity as the Mayor of the city of Genoa, it gives me great pleasure
to welcome the 25th Edition of the Charter Show.
Dear Show Attendees,
The city of Genoa is proud to host every year this important international
exhibition dedicated to Charter professionals and Superyachts. We appreciate MYBA for its involvement in the fields of brokerage, chartering, and
management of luxury yachts, commercial vessels or luxury passenger vessels in order to satisfy demand in this exceptional market. I would like to
thank MYBA and all the organizers for choosing Genoa for this event.
Genoa is the capital of Liguria and the sixth largest city in Italy. The port is
its throbbing heart. Favoured by its strategic geographic location, it is placed
at the centre of the important industrial and commercial area of northern
Italy and southern Europe. With a trade volume of 51.6 million tonnes, it is
the busiest port of Italy by cargo tonnage.
The ancient harbour is the ancient part of the port of Genoa. In recent years, the Genoese architect Renzo Piano redeveloped the area for public access, restoring the historical buildings and creating new landmarks like the
Aquarium, the Bigo and recently the “Bolla” (the Sphere).

As Chairwoman of the MYBA Charter Boat Show Panel, it is my great
pleasure to welcome you to Genoa for the 2013 MYBA Charter Show. This
year we are celebrating the 25th Edition of the Mediterranean Charter Show
and we have some fun celebrations planned including the first ever Chefs’
Competition.
Again, we have an outstanding collection of charter yachts available for
viewing. I would like to thank the Captains and their crew for all their efforts
to make it here in time for the Show.
I would also like to thank our sponsors and exhibitors whose support and
participation is much appreciated. There is a wide variety of companies so
please take the time to visit their stands. In order to make the most of your
time, please be sure to read the Show Programme carefully for information
on seminars, the Gala Dinner and events on Molo Vecchio and Marina Fiera.
Genoa is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, full of history and art.
Part of the old town was inscribed on the World Heritage List (UNESCO)
in 2006 . The city’s rich art, music, gastronomy, architecture and history, allowed it to become the 2004 European Capital of Culture.
I would also like to thank the Pesto Sea Group for their continued support
and excellent organisation of this impressive event. I would particularly
like to thank Francesca Carbone whose support is invaluable as well as
the members of the MYBA Charter Boat Show Panel (Sonia Palfrey, Pat
Codere, Adelheid Chirco and Sylvie Romain) as well as MYBA Admin (Cora
Tracey, Armelle Dunphy, Jane Adlington-Brumer and Denise Wild) for their
assistance and support over the past year.

City of Art,
Sea & Innovation
Genoa is a city rich in art and history, which can be discovered strolling through the
narrow alleys (caruggi) of its historical centre, the largest in Europe. Besides extensive buildings dating to the Middle Ages, wonderful historical palaces (called the
Rolli), were built between the end of the Sixteenth Century and the beginning of the
Seventeenth Century; they became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2006.
The halls and galleries of the Rolli were decorated with frescoes and stuccos of the Genoese school. They were embellished with paintings by Rubens and Van Dyck, with
precious Genoese silks and velvets and with furniture. The Palaces also had a specific
public use: as decreed by the Senate in 1576, the most beautiful residences were included in special registers called “Rolli”, in order to host state visits. This contributed to
the dissemination of an architectural model and a residential culture which attracted
famous artists and travelers. Every year the city celebrates its wonderful historical palaces with a special event called Rolli Days (May 25th – 26th 2013). Contemporary
art meets Renaissance architecture during special openings of the palaces.
The Musei di Strada Nuova, in Via Garibaldi, is a group of three museums hosted in
three different palaces, which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Palazzo
Rosso, Palazzo Bianco and Palazzo Tursi. There you can find art collections of a high
level (such as Veronese, Rubens, Van Dyck, Guido Reni, Caravaggio in addition to the
exponents of the Genoese Baroque school) and documentation of the culture of living.
Genoa has a rich and excellent offering of as many as 22 city museums, ranging from
art and history to ethnography and natural sciences. Just to mention two, there are the
Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art that hosts an astonishing collection of
works of art from the Far East and the Castello D’Albertis that offers one of the most interesting and advanced set-ups in Italy if you’re fond of anthropology and ethnography.

Palazzo Ducale is the cultural hub of the city and it is seat of important international
exhibitions. For example, in this period there is the exhibition Stanley Kubrick Photographer by Michel Draguet (May 1st – August 25th), dedicated to the surprising
photographic works of the director who, at only 17 years of age, was hired by “Look
Magazine,” one of the most important magazines in the States, to document daily life
in America right after World War II. He never lost touch with photography: Kubrick
spent hours studying the details of his shots, perspective, lightening, position of single subjects and the object on screen, as if they were indeed a photograph.
Genoa is a city by the sea, biggest Italian port and one of the most important in the
Mediterranean.
Over the years, the city renewed itself starting with the Porto Antico. In this area, you
can discover the world of AcquarioVillage, that starting at Easter 2013 will include
6 different experiences: in addition to the Aquarium of Genoa, the Biosphere and
the panoramic elevator called the Bigo, visitors will also have the chance to discover
the National Museum of the Antarctic. Within summer another important novelty: the Aquarium of Genoa will inaugurate the new Cetacean Pavilion, a project by
Renzo Piano Workshop that could host up to 9 animals in 4 different tanks. It will offer visitors the opportunity to see the animals from two different perspectives: from
high above and underwater, looking at them swimming through a glass tunnel.
Inside the Porto Antico area you can also find the Galata Sea Museum with its submarine, the biggest maritime museum in the Mediterranean: the ‘visitors/actors’
can jump aboard the galley to explore inside and the lives of the slaves, convicts and
paid oarsmen.
Genoa is a city of technology and innovation. It is the headquarters for industries,
research, and a leader in Europe for innovation and high tech. It is one of the cities
to be nominated as a candidate for European Smart City, with its special attention
to applications of Technology and ICT to the sustainable development of the community. Genoa is home to the IIT - Italian Institute of Technology, one of the most
advanced research centers in the field of nanotechnologies and robotics.
The release of scientific information is also inspiration for planning important
events and unique experiences. The Porto Antico hosts “Wow! Genova Science
Centre”, the first Science Center in Italy. Finally from October 23rd to November
3rd, 2013, the Eleventh Annual Science Festival will take place, one of the main
events concerning the spreading of scientific culture on an international level. The
2013 edition will be dedicated to the theme of Beauty.
