Eurothermes was founded in 1974 by the Doctor Guy Ebrard, President of the Worldwide Federation of Hydrotherapy
and Climatotherapy from 1969 to 1999. In 1993 his son, Jean-Claude Ebrard takes over the reins of the company.
The family-based shareholders ensure a great liberty in regards to the financial and strategic choices, governed by innovation and quality research. The head office the Eurothermes Group is in Pau, in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques.

What is hydrotherapy ?
➜ It’s using source mineral water for therapeutic needs.
➜ It’s a natural medicine which uses agents in the water, mud and gases.
How does spa water work ?
➜ The 1200 sources recognized by the Ministry of Health are classed according to their temperature and their
physiochemical contents. They carry out a double action on the body :
• a chemical action by their micro-nutrients which pass through the skin barrier, acting thoroughly on the
unhealthy bodies by reinforcing their immune system.
• a mechanical action through the usage of various hydrotherapeutic techniques which act on the body.
What sorts of treatments are used ?
➜ Our thermal-water based treatments are very varied.
The treatments may be external : baths, showers, local applications of
the spring water, spring water steam baths, aerosols, inhalation of pure
oxygen gas, thermal mud, massages, pool rehabilitation...
or internal, such as drinking treatments.

➜ Our three spa resorts treat
the major therapeutic areas :

These are for everyone, regardless

➜ This is whole idea behind the “double therapeutic objective” as often
a doctor will prescribe one treatment for the simultaneous healing of
two disorders.
This is often the case for rheumatology, associated with ENT and
respiratory tract treatments as well as phlebology and dermatology.
Both Ax-les-Thermes and Rochefort propose double objective programs.
Are children likely to be healed by a treatment ?
➜ Yes, as of three months old for eczema and three months old for respiratory tract disorders. At the Eurothermes resorts, children are placed with other children of the same age for the treatments which is a
major advantage as it makes the experience less traumatic, helping them to accept their disorder and realizing they are not alone.
Eczema, otitis, rhinitis, asthma and allergies can be sustainably cured using thermal medicine.
The spa resort in Ax-les-Thermes is one of the rare places to have a specific area for children “Les Tilleuls”,
allowing children between 3 and 17 to follow a treatment without being accompanied by their parents.
How much does it cost ?
➜ Prescribed by the attending physician who chooses the best suited resort, the traditional (18-day thermal
treatment) is paid for by the Health Insurance of up to 70 % for the medical fees and 65 % for the treatments. There is a fixed reimbursement payment for transport and accommodation for people whose yearly
earnings are under a specific income level.

What do the spa clients think ?
➜ Reduced pain for 78% of them, decrease of medication intake for 58 % of the spa clients and an overall
improved psychological outlook, better awareness of life hygiene disorder prevention.
The World Health Organization recommends thermalism for treating chronic illnesses, but also for serious illnesses or long-term disorders.
Each year in France there are 550,000 people who have thermal treatment, ensuring a non-chemical method
which is less aggressive and most importantly free from any side effects. Nearly 23,500 spa clients have tried
and approved the Eurothermes spa resorts in 2011.
What happens if you can’t take three weeks for treatment ?
➜ Eurothermes has created the "Thermal Week" or "Prevention Treatment". These are shorter treatments allowing
to maintain and look after a person’s health capital, avoiding relapses. They are offered in our three spa resorts.
Result of the study Thermarthrose revealing the efficiency
of thermal treatment in knee arthritis.
Published in the leading worldwide rheumatology journal, the Thermarthose study establishes irrefutably sound statistics regarding the
Medical Service achieved by thermal treatment. It reveals a significant improvement with patients
suffering from knee arthritis compared with the usual treatment
(medications, infiltrations, rehabilitation, etc).
• 462 patients with severe confirmed
gonarthrosis were randomly recruited
in a study between the spa clients
and a control group.
• This study was carried out in 3 thermal centres.
• The spa client group used the listed
treatment and also benefited from a
thermal treatment.
• The treatment was the only different element between the 2 groups.
In this clinical trial, the natural mineral
water treatment was tested on outpatients with no additional rest or
change of scenery being the extra
plus point by staying in a thermal
resort.
The main judgement criterion retained was the visible clinical improvement, which is considered as an
internationally valid, approved and
recommended criterion assessment.
It combined significant levels of
decreased pain and improvement of
functional capacities required to
obtain noticeable enhancement by
the patient.

thermal resorts focused on rheumatology. The risk/benefit ratio points
even more towards the treatment
considering it’s basically free of side
effects, unlike classic gonarthrosis
medical treatments.

What does “Leisure Spa” mean ?
➜ Its discovering the pleasure of endless thermal water techniques : hot water basin with massage jets,
micro-bubble beds, swan-neck fountains, waterfalls, counter-current jet pools... dry steam for saunas,
damp steam for Hammam... Jacuzzis with decorated lights and fragrances, etc.

The Eurothermes Group is undeniably the pioneer in France and Europe. It opened the first European leisure

• Thermes du Teich : the main thermal area equipped with
the latest technologies. It’s open from March to November.
Located at an average altitude of (720 m)
with an invigorating and stimulating
climate, Ax-les-Thermes guarantees a
particularly-perfect spot for a treatment.
• Thermes du Modèle : part of the 3-star tourist housing,
Le Grand Tétras, modern, functional and bright thermal baths
offering the possibility of treatments within a perfectly-adapted
environment, all year long (closed for one week in December).
The waters are known for their sedative,
anti-convulsing, healing, decongestant,
anti-allergy and anti-inflammatory properties.
Zoom on the natural Ax-les-Thermes steam bath
The water gushing from sulphurated sources at 77°C is the hottest in the Pyrenees. This exceptionally high
temperature boasts incredibly efficient steam treatments for rheumatology disorders and respiratory illnesses.
The steam bath has a fine fog which easily penetrates in the breathing device, therefore giving the thermal
water a good contact with all the respiratory mucosa.
The water steam is also sedative and analgesic : used in the shower or in a local steam room, it naturally
relaxes the body and decreases the pain over all the articulations.
The Thermal Week
For all those who can’t take 3 weeks to do a traditional treatment, for those who believe in prevention or
just for those who like remaining in good health, the Ax-les-Thermes thermal baths have created the thermal
weeks called : “Move Better”, “Breathe Better” and “Move-Breathe” over a 6-day period.

Les Bains du Couloubret
Located in the heart of the city, the leisure spa “Les Bains
du Couloubret” is a great supplement to the Ax-le-Thermes offer.
It’s the first leisure spa in the Ariège, boasting 3,000 m²
and located in the former Coulorbret thermal baths
whose facade was preserved. Here the hot and natural
thermal water with its particularly-relaxing qualities are
between 33° and 38°C depending on the pools.
The decoration and set-up of the Bains du Couloubret
are inspired from Ancient Rome: columns, warm colours,
mosaics,...
Jacuzzis, massage jets, swan-neck fountains, geysers,...
on the side there are a series of Roman-designed baths:
the cold bath, the hot bath and the steam bath.
Two small basins with mini-jets are reserved for children,
under parental supervision.
The centre spreads over 2 levels :
Outdoors, and spread over 2 levels, there are also 2
pools with water activities, lined by tranquil decks with
one sundeck revealing a magnificent view on the surrounding mountain.
On the ground floor with a glass roof, the central pool
is 200 m². It’s surrounded by columns and 4 lateral
alcoves with water activities :
Upstairs, for the over 15-year old, the Irish-Roman baths
reveal a great relaxation area designed around a sauna
and a Hammam. On the same floor there are the 4
rooms dedicated to pampering sessions of massages
and exfoliations (upon appointment only).

Grand Tétras” welcomes guests into 53 sunny and

The “Résidence Le Grand Tétras” proudly proposes a

Access to the Relaxation Area is free and reserved

Created from scratch on the same spot as the thermal water sources, the spa and tourist complex of Bains de Casteljaloux was
inaugurated in 2002. It boasts a spa area, accredited for rheumatology and late injury effects, a leisure spa, a 3-star tourist housing,
a beauty institute and dining area.
The climate is invigorating and sunny.
The fresh air is oxygenated by the Landes forest.
The waters are known for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.

The Casteljaloux spring water sources already existed during the 19th century and were known for their effects
on the neuralgia and rheumatism.
The Casteljaloux spa uses all the latest technologies, but remains on a warm and friendly level. The architect
designed the building to fit perfectly into the green surroundings, cleverly combining the light with the Landes
pine trees.
This congenial complex was designed to facilitate access to all treatments. The spa clients move around in
bathrobes between the thermal baths and the 3-star Résidence des Bains.
All the treatments are grouped together in the morning allowing for relaxing afternoons, visiting the regional
attractions at this intersection between the Landes and Gascony.
Preventive Care
For all those who can’t take 3 weeks to do a traditional treatment, for those who believe in prevention or just for
those who like remaining in good health, the Casteljaloux thermal baths have created prevention care focused on
Rheumatology over a 6-day period.

The Landes forest, the charm and calm life-style in the
Lot-et-Garonne make this city, influenced by the Cadets
Regiment of Gascony, a much-appreciated tourist

The 3-star Tonic Hotel is only 3 km away from the
down-town of Digne-les-Bains, the lavender capital
and a spa town. The hotel is 800 metres away from
the Digne-les-Bains spa which boasts comfort and fun

The Restaurant “la Grive”

The famous Rochefort peloids.
The thermal mud in Rochefort is unique in France.
They come from the Charente estuary which contains a
clay-like sea-river sediment, rich in micro-seaweed. Once
taken, the silt macerates in 40°C thermal water pools.
These types of peliods, very rich in trace elements, are
used in rheumatology with hot cataplasms applied on
the joints: the analgesic action is quick, anti-inflammatory and draining.
The walking hallway, is a health-oriented path
designed by the medical team, which proposes several
therapeutic workshops over 300 m2 (massage of the
