First and foremost, we would like to express our utmost gratitude to Allah
for His blessings in
allowing us to be amongst the believers who submit our hearts and souls in the name of Islam,
The Creator and Prophet Muhammad
, The Messenger.
Since its establishment in 2004, Yayasan Sofa Negeri Sembilan (Yayasan Sofa) has strived to
advocate Islam by imparting knowledge through education, character building as well as carrying
out welfare programs for the Ummah. Numerous obstacles have been overcome to achieve this
mission and we can only attribute our thankfulness to Allah
, for blessing Yayasan Sofa’s
journey.
What started off as a humble surau (prayer hall) based in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan eleven years
ago, has grown to be an internationally recognized institution with links to Islamic universities in
Indonesia, Jordan, Sudan and Morocco. A major achievement is the partnership between As Sofa
Islamic College (ASIC) and the world’s oldest university, University al Qarawiyyin in Morocco.

Yayasan Sofa has also established Islamic educational and research centers in Malaysia, Indonesia,
Egypt and Morocco. These successes would not have been achieved if not for the hard work and
commitment by all parties concerned.
On the global forefront, Yayasan Sofa continues to strengthen its ties with the internationally
acclaimed Islamic scholars to fortify the dakwah of the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah. Yayasan Sofa,
through its research center ‘Bayt al Hikmah’, actively produces articles on current Islamic issues
which are published in a mainstream Malaysian newspaper and regularly organizes Islamic
seminars, forums and events in Malaysia and abroad.

INTRODUCTION
Yayasan Sofa is a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) that was established to spread Islam in line
with the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.
We are committed to produce Islamic scholars and professionals with a strong base of Islamic knowledge.
VISION
MISSION
• To be an organization that upholds Islamic
knowledge and being effective in spreading the
teachings of Islam in line with the Sunnah of Prophet
Muhammad
and the guidance of the Muktabar
Ulama’ (Revered Islamic scholars) of Ahli Sunnah
Wal Jamaah (ASWJ).

To produce future Islamic scholars as well as
professionals of ASWJ.
To revive the traditional methods of imparting
Islamic knowledge by way of sanad (authentic
chain of narration), talaqqi (knowledge that is
conveyed from the teacher to students through
face to face interaction) and halaqah (sitting
together in a group to study, analyse and discuss).

PHILOSOPHY
REVIVING THE CONCEPT OF SUFFAH (THE PROPHET’S PLATFORM)
The Suffah is regarded as the earliest and most renowned Islamic education institution in Madinah al
Munawarah, founded by The Prophet Muhammad
. The Suffah has produced Muslim scholars who
have spread the teachings of Islam throughout the world and to all walks of life.
The concept of the Suffah are based on five main elements:
Knowledge Through Sanad
To ensure that the Islamic teachings taught in the institutions of Yayasan Sofa are based on Sanad which
is an authentic chain of knowledge transmitted from one person to another which leads to the ultimate
source of the knowledge i.e. Prophet Muhammad

Talaqqi Learning
To practise the Talaqqi method of learning i.e knowledge that is conveyed from the teacher to students
through face-to-face interaction.
Learning in a Halaqah
To revive the traditional teaching methods of Halaqah whereby students sit together in a group to study,
analyse and discuss.
Etiquette
To instill high level of etiquette amongst students as advocated by the Sunnah (record of the teachings,
deeds and sayings) of Prophet Muhammad

Himmah
To inculcate our students to have Himmah (high aspirations for the sake of Allah

The first graduation ceremony of 108
graduates of As Sofa Islamic College was
held in January.
• 1,500 students are enrolled with education
institutions under the management of
Yayasan Sofa.
• The founding of Dar’ al Baidha’ Complex.

Bayt al Hikmah
BAYT AL HIKMAH
Bayt al Hikmah is an Islamic research and
knowledge center. Its role is compiling, preserve,
maintain and update large collection of materials
which includes books, manuscripts and audio
visuals with regards to Islamic knowledge and
modern studies. The center also reproduces and
translates old Arabic and Malay manuscripts as well
as publishes materials and references in addressing
important current issues for the betterment of the
Ummah. There are currently four Bayt al Hikmah
research centers, namely in Rembau (Malaysia),
Cairo (Egypt), Rabat (Morocco) and Pekanbaru
(Indonesia).

As Sofa Islamic College was set
up in 2011 to extend Yayasan
Sofa’s network of educational
institutions.
It
signed
Memorandums of Understanding
(MoU) with Mohammed V
University (Rabat, Morocco) on
10th December 2012 and al
Qarawiyyin
University (Fes,
Morocco), the oldest university
in the world, on 16th July 2014.
Both prestigious universities
bestowed ‘The Chair of Islamic
Studies’ (Kursi As Sofa) to As Sofa
Islamic College.

MAIN ROLES OF KURSI AS SOFA
• To conserve and preserve manuscripts for the benefit of the Ummah.
• To organize discourses and lectures on research and knowledge sharing.
• To provide repository that enables published materials be made available to wide audience.
• To collaborate in exchange of researchers for knowledge assimilation.
• To conduct research programs whereby the outcomes will be used to develop and enhance the socio
economic status of the Ummah.
HUFFAZ AL QURAN AND KHATAM KUTUB AL SAB’AH
Since 2010, Yayasan Sofa has contributed in producing many students who have memorized Al Quran (Huffaz Al
Quran) as well as students who have completed (khatam) the reading of the seven main books of Hadith (known
as Kutub al Sab’ah), namely Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan al Tarmizi, Sunan Abu Daud, Sunan Ibn Majah,
Sunan al Nasa’I and Muwatta Imam Malik.

YAYASAN SOFA ON THE INTERNATIONAL FRONT
Eleven years since its inception, Yayasan Sofa has spread its mission in many countries throughout the world.
Based in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, it has established various institutions in Indonesia, Egypt as well as
Morocco. Yayasan Sofa will establish another institution in London in January 2016.

In our efforts and fortitude to continue spreading the values of Islam through education, dakwah and welfare,
