Amplifiers
The amplifier is the heart
of any car audio system, the
power engine which gives energy to
the loudspeakers at its command.
Yet it is also the all-controlling brain.
Accurate amplification opens the
window on a world of unlimited
sound and Macrom models are
certainly both accurate and powerful.
Macrom presents four different series,
each with very specific features,
enabling select audiophiles to choose
the one which suits their taste and
pocket.
SYNTHESIS
Every aspect of design and
performance is at the highest level.
The finest sounding car hi-fi you are
likely to find. An undisputed
reference for those who want the
very best of the best.
(See pages 6 & 7).
SYNTECH
Exceptional sound quality and
dynamics, a myriad of features and
revolutionary hi-tech design
re-creates music with dramatic
realism.
SYNPOWER
The same design concepts and
technology, incredible dynamic
impact and sound character as
the Syntech series. Developed
and manufactured to make the
emotional experience of car audio
accessible to the younger
generation.
(See pages 10 & 11).
SYNBASIC

Graph 1
A 3+1-way system (electronic Sub and passive 3-way) can be
obtained. It is possible to connect a Sub to a traditional system by
using the pre-out with its relative crossover,
thereby optimising the acoustic output.
Graph 2
Thanks to this amplifier's flexibility it is possible to have a 3+1-way
multi-amplifier Sub, Midbass and Satellites system with midrange and tweeter cut in
passive mode. For optimum results, connect the three amplifiers in cascade, using the
pre-outputs with the relative crossovers built-in to the amplifiers,
without requiring external Electronic Crossovers.

crossovers are the
heart of a true hi-fi
system and naturally
MACROM offers you
the best and most flexible
on the market.
5 CHANNELS
Only one amp for a complete system
Combining these crossovers with each other or with the
built-in crossovers of MACROM’s programmable amplifiers, is an
easy way of obtaining 3, 4, 5 or 6-way active systems.
Thanks to the original cutting frequency of these crossovers, a high end
6-way active crossover can be obtained at a competitive price just by
connecting a 48.22 unit in cascade with a 48.13 and 48.12.
BUILT-IN CROSSOVERS
Front/Rear variable crossover:
flat, 80 or 120 Hz HP, 12 dB/Oct.
Subwoofer variable crossover:
50, 60 or 120 Hz LP, 12dB/Oct.
Dc-Dc converters, separate
low-, mid- and high-pass output level
controls, infinite electronic crossover
design, fine asymmetrical adjustment
DEDICATED DC/DC MOSFET POWER SUPPLY

Loudspeak ers
If the amplifier is the heart and
brain, then loudspeakers are like
the legs, arms and body which
move in step with the music at their
command. The more faithful and
accurate the reaction, the finer and
more realistic the sound. Good
loudspeakers literally bring music
to life: with subtlety, power and
definition. Macrom’s loudspeaker
research and development is a
continuous pursuit of the most
accurate sounds,whether playing a
rock band, solo guitar or orchestral
concert. Although music is an
emotional and intangible
element, this is achieved through
the painstaking application of new
technologies, continual testing of
new material and ideas.

speaker is playing at low volumes, the filter
remains inactive, the cone is free, micro
information and details are there. When the
speaker moves more actively this filter begins to
block the air under the dome creating internal
pressure which has the effect of controlling the
speaker like an enclosure. This technology is very
important for car audio systems where it is almost
impossible to achieve a good enclosure in the door

CONES
MACROM’s high end speakers use polypropylene cones which are more resistant to
water and thermal variations. This results in better reliability. The cone and the dome
are combined in a single unit, they are perfectly sealed so that no losses occur when the
car filter is active.
TWEETERS
MACROM tweeters are renowned as being among the best tweeters in the world. Most
systems use very large 28 mm voice coils which means you can put more wire in the air
gap to obtain more power and more transient response. The resonant frequency goes
as low as 900Hz.
NEODYMIUM MAGNETS FOR THE WOOFERS
Using neodymium enables dimensions to be reduced significantly. Thanks to their high
magnetic flux generating capability it is possible to produce small size speakers which
have exceptional performance.
20
GIANT VOICE COIL WITH INTERNAL MAGNETS
Large voice coils allow us to drive very flat cones avoiding cone breakage. Flat cones
are the best for open sound and good, realistic bass frequencies. The hexatech
aluminium voice coil makes the moving mass lighter compared to the same size coil
in copper. This means a higher transient response and high power.

more faithful reproduction and another first for the house of MACROM.
The Bi-wiring option allows these speakers to be bi-amplified or used
with an external passive crossover specifically designed to suit the car in
question.
DOUBLE HORN
The I 2.50 and I 2.60 are supplied with a pair of additional “open” horns
which can be used to replace the standard horn to change the angle of
dispersion of the high and mid-high frequencies.
The horns are screwed down so changing them is a simple operation.
And these, together with the extraordinary acoustic results, are only
some of the features which earned the I series I 2.60 ECAP’s “Best
Product of the Year 1996” and the I series I 2.50 the Las Vegas WCES
“1997 Innovation Award”.
MACROM created two different magnet circuits incorporated in a single magnet system to
drive both the woofer and tweeter which, mounted concentrically, represent a true pointsource speaker. The soft dome tweeter’s 28 mm (1 1/8”) diameter voice coil is situated inside
the magnet system whereas the 54 mm (2 1/4”) voice coil which drives the mid-bass
frequencies is situated outside the magnet system. The tweeter is fitted with a rear chamber
inside the woofer’s magnet circuit which allows faithful reproduction of even the lowest
range of the medium frequencies by eliminating disturbing hollow sounds.
The original design of the tweeter allows phase integration between the two units. Another
unusual feature of the I series is the exceptional off-axis dispersion, proven by laboratories
all over the world, which allows the best acoustic results even at 60° angles.
The 6x9 speaker continues to be in high demand in many
markets because of its easy to install design and the fact that it
represents a simple solution to many problems.
Its oval shape however, usually makes the cone acoustically
unbalanced.
In designing these 2-way 6x9 units MACROM has managed
to satisfy the demand for 6x9 units while making minimum
compromises regarding acoustic results. In fact, these units
are characterised by deep bass and clear vocals.
For particularly complex systems, the bi-wiring option
enables external passive crossovers to be adopted to modify
the crossing point between the two units.
The 62.90 is at the top of its category and uses MACROM’s
exclusive soft dome tweeter.

TWEETERS AND MIDRANGE
Like all MACROM products these speakers are based upon a sophisticated project concept.
An exclusive design characterises these outstanding compact tweeters which incorporate an acoustic lens with the dual function
of protecting the dome and achieving an excellent off-axis frequency response.
Thanks to MACROM’s high technology and the amazing 28 mm diameter hand-processed dome,
a resonant frequency of below 900 Hz has been obtained.
This low resonant frequency allows excellent 2-way systems to be produced where the use of a
midrange is not possible or can make a sweeter and more harmonic crossing point between the
midrange and tweeter in a 3-way system.
These tweeters also boast high power handling, liquid cooling and a broad frequency response.
They are all supplied with a new kit of accessories which cover all installation requirements.

MIDRANGE
MACROM considers the midrange the most important
part of the whole sound spectrum. In fact, these are the
most fundamental frequencies for the majority
of musical instruments and it is therefore important to
use components capable of reproducing them perfectly.
MACROM’s 58.08 is the first midrange to incorporate a
revolutionary magnet system consisting of four
30
57.18
57.19
neodymium segments which pilots the 54 mm diameter voice coil
obtaining results that would require an absurdly large traditional magnet.
The plastic body eliminates any dispersion of magnetic flux and reduces
the weight of the unit even further.
Thanks to the extremely rigid dome driven by the 54 mm diameter voice
coil, this speaker reproduces the midrange with such speed
and transparency that an amazingly life-like sound is produced.
The extremely low resonance allows crossover points from 800 Hz
and a total lack of cone break-up allow 6 dB per octave filters to be used.

MACROM’s objective of building a woofer with deep,
full-bodied bass, an excellent transient response and
increased power handling without mounting the
woofer in a cabinet led to the development of the
unique C.A.R. (Controlled Acoustic Resistance) turbo
duct principle.
The unusual low dispersion multi-magnet systems used for MACROM’s midrange and
woofers have rear vents equipped with acoustic filters (C.A.R. filters).
The air pressure within the magnet system created by the cone movement is released
through this duct, dampened by the C.A.R. device positioned inside which controls the
speaker's acoustic resistance accordingly.
This results in a more accurate bass and higher power handling without the need for
additional rear loading.
The final effect is close to that of a conventional cabinet hi-fi system, simply by mounting
the speaker in the door panels or on a rear shelf.
