About Today’s Game...
• Georgia tips off the SEC portion of its
schedule with a Saturday afternoon contest at
Kentucky. The Bulldogs enter SEC play with an
8-5 overall record, having won four of their last
five games. Most recently, they defeated rival
Georgia Tech, ranked 20th in the current AP Top
25, by a 73-66 margin in Athens on Tuesday.
The win over Tech represented Georgia’s
first victory against a ranked opponent in almost
three years, going back to a buzzer-beater vs.
LSU in January of 2007. Bulldog teams had
dropped eight such games in a row before Tuesday night’s win.
That LSU game in ‘07 also marked the last
time that Georgia had played three straight Top
25 opponents. Saturday’s game is the second of
three such matchups. The Dogs will play host to
#14 Ole Miss next Wednesday.
• Saturday’s game is the 135th all-time
meeting between these two schools. Kentucky
owns a 110-24 lead in the series, though seven
of Georgia’s wins have come in the past eight
years, including once each from 2007-09.
In 2009, Georgia won at UK for just the fifth
time ever, taking a 90-85 decision on March 4.
• This game holds particular significance for
Georgia’s operations coordinator Mark Pope.
The first-year coaching staff member played his
final two collegiate seasons (1995-96) at Kentucky.

Georgia Basketball
• Interviews
• Interview opportunities for players and
Coach Fox will be on pre-determined dates
and times during the season. As much
advance notice as possible will be given
before these dates. These opportunities
will take place before the team’s daily
practices, which generally start at 3:00 p.m.
on weekdays. Media are encouraged to
arrange interviews in advance with Tim Hix
of the Sports Information Office.
• Interviews with players are not allowed
on the day of a game.
• NCAA rules require the team to have
one “off” day per week. This off day
changes occasionally but will most likely
be on Sundays. Every effort will be made
to give the media as much advance notice
as possible about the upcoming practice
schedule.
• Locker, training and weight room facilities are open only to coaches, players and
support staff.
• Practices
• Practices will be CLOSED to the media
this season.
• However, television and still photographers will be able to shoot the FIRST
15 MINUTES of each practice. During
this 15-minute period, all photographers
are asked to remain in the baseline areas
normally reserved for shooting in a game.
• Post-Game Interviews
• This season the Bulldogs will no longer
use the Training Facility locker room for
Game Day. After a brief “cooling-off” period, Coach Fox and requested players will
be available in the theater-type Conference
Room, located through Portal #2. Coach
Fox will answer questions first before
proceeding to his post-game radio show.
Requested players will follow in the Conference Room.
• Weekly Satellite Feeds
The Georgia Sports Communications Office offers Tuesday satellite feeds that feature practice footage, as well as interviews
with Coach Fox and players on upcoming
opponents.
Please contact the UGA SID office for
satellite feed coordinates.
• SEC Coaches’ Teleconference
Coach Fox will participate in the weekly
SEC Coaches’ teleconference. Media wishing to join the Monday/Thursday teleconference should contact the SEC office for the
appropriate phone number.

Georgia vs. Kentucky
• Saturday’s game is the 135th all-time meeting between these two schools in basketball. Kentucky
leads the series, as it does against all of its longtime SEC brethren, by a lopsided count: 110-24.
• Fifteen of Georgia’s 24 all-time wins over Kentucky have come in Athens. Three of those have come
in the past seven years (2002, 2004, 2007). Just two of those 15, however, came in consecutive years:
1989-90. The other eight wins by Georgia in this series came in the following locales:
Four in Lexington: 1923, 1985, 2002, 2004
Three times in Atlanta: 1925, 1929, 2008
Once in Louisville: 1987
All three wins in Atlanta came during post-season play. The first two were part of the Southern Intercollegiate Conference tournament.
• Georgia has defeated UK twice in the same season just five times ever: 1925, 1985, 1987, 2002, 2004.
• Today’s head coaches have faced one another on one previous occasion, when they worked for their
previous employers: in the 2007 NCAA Tournament. Memphis defeated Nevada 78-62 in the 2nd round.
Noteworthy...
A few leftovers from the Georgia Tech game:
For just the third time in 13 games, three Georgia players saw at least 30 minutes of action.
The flip side of that coin? Two reserves who
had played in all 12 previous games (Zlovaric,
Mayfield) did not reach the court...Georgia made
a season-high seven 3-point shots against
Tech while the Jackets made just three treys, a
season low for UGA opponents...The Bulldogs
committed a season-high 20 fouls while Tech
was whistled for 24, a relatively low number for a
series that has averaged 51 total fouls over the
previous five meetings...
A couple of other stats that merit a mention:
last year’s Georgia team averaged nearly 19
3-point shot attempts per game, compared to
only 11.6 thus far for the current Bulldogs. The
2010 Georgia team, however, averages 22 foul
shots per contest, compared to just over 17 per
game last season. Not only are these Bulldogs
more frequent foul shooters, but they’re also
more accurate: 71 percent compared to 64
percent a year ago.
It was a big December for Trey Thompkins,
who was named the SEC Player of the Week
on Dec. 21, thanks to his outstanding play in the
Bulldogs’ win over Illinois. He became the first
Bulldog since Sundiata Gaines, who did it in
February of 2008, to win the P-O-W award.
Earlier in the month, the USA Men’s U19
Team, in recognition of its gold-medal performance at the 2009 FIBA U19 World Championship, was named as the 2009 USA Basketball
Team of the Year. Led by Pitt head coach
Jamie Dixon, the American squad compiled a
perfect 9-0 record July 2-12 in Auckland, New
Zealand, ending an 18-year gold-medal drought
for USA Basketball in the U19 Worlds.
Thompkins ranked second on the U.S. team
in scoring at 10.6 points per game and third
among all Americans in rebounding at 5.0 per
game. He had the Yanks’ highest single-game
scoring output with 22 points in a fourth-round
win over Greece.
And speaking of that U.S. team, Thompkins
will share the court today with one of his U19
teammates, UK guard Darius Miller.
Thompkins has also become Georgia’s top
career scorer among all current Bulldogs. He
enters the Kentucky game with 565 points. This,
of course, excludes the impressive numbers
compiled at Tennessee State by junior transfer
Gerald Robinson, Jr., who scored 1,021 points
in the past two seasons for the Tigers. Robinson is sitting out the 2010 season in compliance
with NCAA rules regarding transfers.
Ricky McPhee, the Bulldogs’ top outside
threat so far, has established career highs in six
categories already this season: Points (20 vs.
UNCA), Rebounds (8 vs. JSU), Minutes (34 vs.
SLU), Steals (4 vs. UNCA), 3FGA (11 vs. JSU)
and FGA (14 vs. JSU)...McPhee scored over 20
points three times while playing two seasons
(2006-07) at Gardner-Webb, including 21 in his
first college game at North Carolina.
...Today’s game is the fourth true road
contest for the Bulldogs in this young season. A
cursory glance at their results from those games
leads one to suspicion over their performance.
Indeed, Georgia’s average scoring margin in
those games is -18.7 points. Counting Kentucky’s 15-0 mark, however, the combined
records of their four road opponents is now a
whopping 52-6.

Georgia has led the SEC in free-throw
percentage for the past three weeks, a stark
improvement from 2009, when the ‘09 team
ranked 11th among the 12 SEC teams at
season’s end. Georgia has never won the
SEC’s free throw-percentage title in the 50
years for which those numbers have been
tallied.
This improvement has been neither accidental nor single-handed. Every returning
player for the Bulldogs has increased his
shooting percentage at the foul line:

Recent Georgia basketball alum Sundiata Gaines, the 2008 SEC Tournament
MVP, had spent the past 18 months chasing
his dream of reaching the NBA. The chase
took him to some relatively remote locales,
including Cantu, Italy and Boise, Idaho.
On Tuesday, however, his dreams
reached fruition when Gaines was signed
to a 10-day contract with the Utah Jazz. He
had averaged over 23 points through the
first 14 games of the 2010 season for the
Idaho Stampede of NBA’s Developmental League. The moment when he was
informed of his call-up -- as the Stampede
returned to the Boise airport from a road trip
to Springfield, Mass. -- was caught on tape
by a crew from NBA Entertainment, which
was in Boise for the annual NBDL Showcase.
It didn’t take long for Gaines to reach
the court in live action. With starting point
guard Deron Williams ailing, the former
Bulldog played 20 minutes the next night
in a 117-94 home win over Memphis. He
scored three points and handed out five assists.
For the time being, Georgia now has
three alumni playing in the NBA: in addition
to Gaines, Jarvis Hayes (New Jersey) and
Damien Wilkins (Minnesota) are also active pros.
Fox Named SEC’s Top Twitterer
Here’s something that Georgia coach
Mark Fox can really hang his hat on. At
least one follower of that cyberspace called
Twitter -- evidently, someone with much free
time on his hands -- has proclaimed Fox to
be the top “Tweeter” among all participants
from the Southeastern Conference.
Blogger Andy Pawlowski, who maintains the site DigitalHoopsBlast.com,
has posted a recent blog titled “The SEC
All-Twitter Team.” In the blog he calls Fox
the SEC Twitterer of the Year and lauds the
first-year coach for his personal and often
humorous Tweets. Best of all, the “twit”
behind all of this first-rate Tweeting is Fox
himself, not someone from his staff.
From the site www.twitter.com/coachmarkfox comes this most recent post:
Play @KY on Sat-former Cat Mark Pope
on my staff. He left med school 2 join us &
now I know why. I’ve been sick for a week
& he can’t help me.
Georgia and the SEC
Following are a few tidbits about Georgia’s
history in the SEC:
• Georgia’s all-time record in SEC
games, covering 76 years, is 470-694
(.404). That ranks 10th of the 12 current
SEC members.
• Georgia can claim one SEC regularseason championship (1990), one regularseason divisional title (2002) and two SEC
Tournament crowns (1983, 2008).
• Georgia has had just one Associated
Press SEC Player of the Year: Dominique
Wilkins in 1981 and no POY, as voted by
the league’s coaches since 1987. Other
superlative post-season awards include
Coaches’ SEC Defensive Player of the Year
(Rashad Wright in 2004) and AP SEC
Newcomer of the Year (Jarvis Hayes in
2002).
• Wilkins was the first of four Georgia
players to lead the SEC in scoring at
season’s end. He averaged a league-best
23.6 points per game in 1981. Others to
follow him have been Vern Fleming (19.8
ppg in 1984), Jumaine Jones (18.8 ppg
in 1999) and Jarvis Hayes (18.6 ppg in
2002).
• Georgia has an all-time SEC Tournament record of 37-47. The 2008 tournament marked the first time since 1997 that
Georgia has reached the semifinals, and
also the finals.
• Since the league expanded and was
pared into East and West Divisions in 1992,
Georgia has a 125-163 (.434) record. Eight
times since ‘92 Georgia has had a league
record of .500 or better (1993, ‘95, ‘96, ‘97,
‘01,’03, 07).
• Since the league’s expansion, Georgia
has a 69-111 record (.383) record against
the Eastern Division, a 56-52 mark (.519)
against SEC Western Division teams.
Bulldog teams have had winning records
against the West in 12 of 18 years. Georgia’s only undefeated season against the
West came in 2003.
• In the 16-game SEC schedule format,
Georgia’s most wins came in 2003, when
it compiled an 11-5 mark. The Bulldogs’
timing, however, left much to be desired.
That same year, Kentucky won the East
with a perfect 16-0 mark and Florida placed
second at 12-4. Georgia’s 11-5 mark
would’ve won the West by two games.
What Georgia Brings Back in ‘10

Fox’s version of the famed Triangle

in five years at Nevada. From 2005 until

Staff Brings Plenty of Experience
Though the average age of Georgia’s
on-court coaching staff is less than 39
years, the entire staff brings a rare depth
and breadth of experience to the table.
Of the four full-time coaches, only
Kwanza Johnson has never served as
a head coach at some level. Additionally,
Director of Basketball Operations Kent
Davison has been a head coach at nearly
every conceivable level of basketball:
high school, junior college, professional,
international

Pope Career Path Long, Winding
For Georgia’s new Operations
Coordinator Mark Pope, his employment marks a re-entry into the world of
basketball. Since graduating from the
University of Kentucky in 1996 -- he
was a key reserve on the Wildcats’
NCAA championship team that year -he’s played seven seasons in the NBA,
as well as two seasons in Turkey.
Most recently, however, Pope had
just completed his third year of medical
school at Columbia University in New
York when inquired about an entry-level
coaching job at Georgia.

Georgia 90, Kentucky 85
March 4, 2009 - Lexington, Ky.
Game Summary
Hot-shooting Georgia got its first road
win on its last chance, shocking Kentucky and perhaps crippling the Wildcats’
bid for an NCAA Tournament berth.
The Bulldogs got heroism from several players, but none bigger than Terrance Woodbury. He scored 21 of his
30 points in the first half, when his team
rebounded twice from 9-point deficits.
Patrick Patterson’s short jumper put
Kentucky into a 25-16 lead with 10:16
left in the first half. Two minutes later
Woodbury pulled the Bulldogs within two
at 27-25 on a pair of foul shots. Georgia
eventually forged ahead late in the half
until Kentucky closed with a 9-0 run to
take a 49-47 advantage at halftime.
Against a mostly second-line unit,
Georgia broke free to take command
early in the second half. Corey Butler,
Trey Thompkins and Dustin Ware all
scored in a 2-minute sequence. Seven
straight points from Jodie Meeks,
however, got the Cats within 63-62 with
13:44 left.
Georgia never abated its offensive
onsalught, and with 5:46 left, Woodbury’s reverse layup got the Bulldogs
their third 10-point lead of the night.
They sealed the win by making seven of
eight free throws in the final minute.
Team / Individual Notes
The win was Georgia’s first at Rupp
Arena in five years, but its sixth win over
the Cats in the past eight years.

2009-10 Game Recaps
Georgia 67, New Orleans 59
Nov. 13, 2009 - Athens, Ga.
Game Summary
Georgia got the Mark Fox era started
in victorious fashion by overcoming a
second-half deficit and by delivering
clutch points at the neediest moments.
After the two teams jockeyed for the
early lead, New Orleans nudged ahead in
the first five minutes of the second half. A
layup by Charles Carmouche with 16:24
left put the Privateers in front by a 45-40
margin, their largest of the game.
Georgia, however, countered with
an 11-0 run, during which four different
Bulldogs scored. Trey Thompkins ended
the scoring streak with five consecutive
points, lastly a layup at the 9:51 mark that
put Georgia ahead 51-45.
The contest remained close for the
remainder, yet the Bulldogs never surrendered their slim lead. New Orleans pulled
within 58-56 on a 3-pointer by Jaroslav
Tyrna with 2:05 left. Ricky McPhee
answered with a layup and, after a New
Orleans miss, one of two foul shots to
extend the Georgia lead back to 60-56.
The Bulldogs secured victory by making all six of their foul shots in the final 34
seconds.
Team / Individual Notes
UNO guard Billy Humphrey, who
played three seasons at Georgia, returned
to Athens amid a mixed reaction from
Bulldog partisans...Thompkins’ 25 points
were a career high, as were Drazen Zlovaric’s 25 minutes.

Nov. 17, 2009 - Athens, Ga.
UAB 72, Georgia 56
Nov. 21, 2009 - Birmingham, Ala.
Game Summary
Wofford took early command, relented
only briefly in the second half, and held on
to edge Georgia in a victory that helped
avenge the Terriers’ heartbreaking loss
here last season.
Trey Thompkins gave Georgia a
short-lived spell of breathing room when
his layup put the Bulldogs ahead 8-3 with
14:50 left. By the time he scored their
next points, however, over seven minutes
had elapsed and Wofford had pushed
ahead by a 19-10 count.
The Terriers maintained a comfortable
margin for the first half’s remainder until
two foul shots by Dustin Ware with 39
seconds left got Georgia within a single
possession at 29-26.
The Terriers claimed the lead for good
at 36-34 on a 3-pointer by Corey Godzinski with 15:49 left.
Things got interesting in the final
seconds. Travis Leslie’s 3-pointer pulled
Georgia within 58-56 with 17 ticks left,
and the Bulldogs then forced a 5-second
inbounds violation. Godzinski blocked
Thompkins on the next play, forcing a
held-ball decision that went Wofford’s way.
After a missed one-and-one by Wofford,
Ware made just one of two foul shots with
6.3 seconds left that could have forced an
overtime period.
Game Summary
Howard Crawford scored a game-high
21 points as UAB sprinted to an early lead
and cruised past error-prone Georgia 7256 in a non-conference basketball game
Saturday night.
Crawford was helped by 17 points from
Jamarr Sanders, who sank three of four
3-point shots and all seven free throws. It
was early scoring from Sanders, in fact,
that enabled the Blazers to take early command.
After spotting Georgia a Dustin
Ware 3-pointer to open the game, UAB
answered with 12 straight points. The
Blazers’ scoring run was aided by Georgia
turnovers on four of five possessions.
A trey by Sanders with 14:55 left in the
first half got UAB its first double-digit lead
at 17-6. The margin reached 17 before
Georgia began to creep back into contention.
Trailing 23-6, the Bulldogs strung
together 11 consecutive points tallied by
four different players. A jumper by Travis
Leslie got his team within 23-17 at the
7:27 mark of the first half.
UAB, however, righted itself in time to
build its margin back into double digits
before halftime. The Blazers kept their
advantage that way for the game’s remainder. In the second half, Georgia never
got closer than a 38-28 count on a Chris
Barnes foul shot with 16:56 left.
Team / Individual Notes
Georgia missed its first 12 3-point attempts, not making one until the 3:20 mark
of the 2nd half.

Game Summary
Ricky McPhee and Travis Leslie
made a most efficient night’s work in
scoring their 37 combined points, leading
Geogia to an easy win and getting their
team back onto a victorious track.
The pair sank 15 of 19 shots -- four of
McPhee’s eight goals came from beyond
the arc -- and played just 40 minutes between then. McPhee’s 20 points, in fact,
were his most as a Georgia Bulldog.
They also collaborated on the Dogs’
first signficant run of the game, a 14-0
streak that ended at 16-2 on McPhee’s
first trey of the night.
Trey Thompkins then joined McPhee
in triggering Georgia’s next major push.
After Asheville had trimmed its deficit back
into single digits, the Bulldogs rang off
another 13 straight points. The run was
capped by a Thompkins pull-up jumper at
the 4:19 mark of the first half, boosting the
margin to 33-13.
Despite liberal substituting, Georgia
was able to expand its lead in the second
half. The margin reached its largest at
59-26 on a running layup by Albert Jackson with 11:43 left.

Consecutive 3-pointers by Dustin
Ware and Ricky McPhee in the final minutes provided the momentum for Georgia
to overcome a sluggish outing and nudge
past a pesky Jacksonville State squad.
The Bulldogs did not lead for good
until the 2:33 mark, when Ware’s trey
gave them a 58-57 advantage. After a
JSU turnover, McPhee gave Georgia its
first breathing room of the entire game by
draining a long jumper from the right wing.
Still, victory was not secured until
Jeremy Price rebounded an intentionally
missed free throw by the Gamecocks’
Jay-R Strowbridge with two seconds
remaining.
Strowbridge, in fact, keyed an inspired
effort throughout the game by Jacksonville State. The Gamecocks took advantage of a 9-minute, first-half scoring
drought by Georgia to seize control of the
game. A 3-point play by Jeremy Bynum
with 1:37 left before halftime gave JSU its
largest lead of the game at 29-18.
The margin stayed within single digits
for the first nine minutes of the second
half. A fast-break dunk by Trey Thompkins with 10:33 left, however, got Georgia
even at 41.
The lead changed hands twice more
until Ware’s go-ahead 3-pointer in the
waning minutes.
Game Summary
Georgia sprinted to an early lead, yet
was forced by a hard-charging St. Louis
club into making clutch plays late to preserve its third consecutive win.
The Bulldogs used a swarming, trapping defense to seize command shortly after tipoff. Despite a sluggish offense, they
still managed a double-digit lead within the
first seven minutes. The Billikens, meanwhile, needed nearly 10 minutes before
scoring their first field goal of the night.
Georgia took its largest lead of the
game when Ricky McPhee drained a
3-pointer with 17:01 left in the game, pushing the Bulldogs in front, 40-20. After a St.
Louis time out, however, Rick Majerus’
team righted itself.
After slowly cutting into their deficit,
the Billikens finally got their margin back
into single digits at 55-48 on a 3-pointer
by Kwamain Mitchell. He then stole a
Dustin Ware pass and raced in for a layup
that got St. Louis within five points with
3:12 left.
Georgia then countered with the game’s
most decisive plays on back-to-back possessions. Trey Thompkins scored on
a short turnaround jumper with 2:38 left.
Then, after a St. Louis turnover, he fed
Jeremy Price for a layup that restored the
Bulldog margin to 59-50 with 1:53 remaining.

2009-10 Game Recaps
Virginia Tech 74, Georgia 62
Dec. 6, 2009 - Blacksburg, Va.
Game Summary
Malcolm Delaney scored 31 points
and Virginia Tech turned back repeated
challenges by Georgia as the Hokies won
a game that seemed much more competitive than the score indicated.
Virginia Tech broke free from Georgia
to build double-digit leads twice in the
first half. The first of those came at 28-18
on a Delaney layup with 4:09 left before
halftime. Still, the Bulldogs managed to
trim their deficit to 33-27 when Albert
Jackson scored with 49 seconds left,
setting up one of the game’s most pivotal
exchanges.
After Jackson’s bucket, Ricky McPhee
stole a Tech pass and raced in for a layup,
which was blocked by Dorenzo Hudson.
Delaney then completed first-half scoring
with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from deep
in the right corner.
Delaney’s 3-point play with 14:30 left
gave the Hokies their largest lead of the
game at 52-37. Over the ensuing six
minutes, however, Georgia crept back into
contention. Trey Thompkins made one
of two foul shots with 7:56 remaining to
Georgia within 59-53.
On Tech’s next possession, Victor
Davila converted a 3-point play to restore
the margin back to 62-53.
Team / Individual Notes
Thompkins failed to score a field goal
for the first time in his collegiate career.

Game Summary
St. John’s broke open a tight game
with a brief run early in the second half
and held off Georgia in the SEC-Big East
Invitational at Madison Square Garden.
The Red Storm led by five at halftime
but built their margin steadily with outstanding play in the final period. Just 90
seconds into the second half, Dale Coker
rebounded a missed free throw and converted a bucket to put St. John’s ahead
33-25, its largest lead to that juncture in
the game.
From there, the Johnnies’ lead reached
12 over the ensuing five minutes. A
3-pointer by Dwight Hardy at the 13:20
mark produced a 48-36 lead. The margin
reached its largest of 14 points twice, the
final time at 61-47 on a short jumper by
Coker with 5:20 left.
The Bulldogs made one final push
in the game’s waning minutes. Two foul
shots by Trey Thompkins, who led all
scorers with 19 points, brought his team
within 63-56 with 53 seconds left. St.
John’s, however, sealed the win by making all four of its foul shots thereafter.
Game Summary
Trey Thompkins scored 21 points, including four decisive free throws in the final
22 seconds, as Georgia posted its most impressive win to date, and on a neutral floor
to boot.
The Bulldogs led nearly the entire
contest before a 3-point play by Illinois’
Demetri McCamey pushed the Illini ahead
67-66 with 35 seconds left. On the ensuing
possession, Thompkins was fouled and his
two shots with 22 ticks remaining got the
Bulldogs the lead back for good.
McCamey missed a short, running
jumper on his team’s next try, Thompkins
rebounded and McCamey fouled him with
just six seconds left. Again, the Georgia
sophomore, who had missed two practices
before the game after having wisdom teeth
extracted, sealed the victory with two more
foul shots.
After the two teams played to a firsthalf draw, Georgia took command in the
second period, twice building 9-point leads.
Illinois responded to the first such margin,
at 45-36, by gaining a 49-all tie five minutes later. The Illini again tied the score at
66, with 35 seconds left, on the first part of McCamey’s 3-point play.

2009-10 Game Recaps
Georgia 77, Florida Atlantic 60
Dec. 23, 2009 - Athens, Ga.
Game Summary
Trey Thompkins scored a career-high
35 points, including 25 in the second half,
when his team overcame a sluggish start
and pulled away from a scrappy Florida
Atlantic team.
The Owls took early control of this
game, virtually from its outset. Twice in
the first half they led by nine points, the
final time coming at 23-14 on an Alex
Tucker layup with 7:39 left before halftime.
Three days removed from their biggest win yet -- and set to disperse for the
Christmas break -- the Bulldogs apparently
needed a large deficit to jump-start their
performance. They evened the game at
29 just before halftime on a pair of Dustin
Ware free throws.
Still, FAU kept the score close until
Thompkins and Ware gave the Bulldogs
a firm grasp on this game during the final
period. Albert Jackson’s foul shot with
16:32 left put Georgia in front for good at
36-35 and started a 7-0 Bulldog run.
The Georgia lead reached 20 at 64-44
on a pair of Chris Barnes free throws with
4:32 left. After the Owls trimmed the margin back to 66-58, Thompkins and Ware
secured victory by scoring eight straight
points.

Game Summary
Travis Leslie scored 14 points and
Trey Thompkins added a double-double
as the Bulldogs got their third straight win
with an attack that was far more balanced
than in their previous outing.
Georgia needed almost the entire first
half to build its lead into double digits.
Still, the Bulldogs never felt seriously
threatened by their visitors from the West
Coast.
That 10-point margin came at 31-21 on
a Leslie layup with 2:23 left in the first half. It grew on a Chris Barnes follow at the
1:13 mark before halftime.
Georgia put the game away by dominating the early second-half action. A 10-2
run in the half’s first four minutes, during
which four different Bulldogs scored, essentially decided the outcome.
Georgia’s lead reached its largest at
58-35 on a pair of foul shots by reserve
guard Ebuka Anyaorah with 7:07 left.
Game Summary
Reserve forward Laurence Bowers
scored 17 points in a red-hot first half as
Missouri built a big early lead and cruised
to a victory whose ease was facilitated by
an error-prone Georgia team.
The Tigers blistered the nets for 66 percent shooting in the decisive opening half.
Much of their sharp shooting was aided by
an error-prone Georgia team that committed 11 first-half turnovers, 23 in all.
After taking a quick 7-4 lead, Georgia
saw its troubles mount after leading scorer
Trey Thompkins picked up his second
foul just four minutes into the game.
Shortly thereafter, the Tigers took the lead
for good on consecutive buckets by Justin
Safford, the latter a lay-in with 16:40 left
after a J.T. Tiller steal, giving Mizzou an
8-7 lead.
The Tigers essentially iced the game
with a scoring flurry early in the second
half. Keith Ramsey converted a steal on
Georgia’s opening possession into a layup
that started a 5-0 run. By the time Albert
Jackson got the Bulldogs’ first points with
a dunk at the 18:34 mark, the margin had
reached 23 points.
Team / Individual Notes
Thompkins got his fourth double-double
of the season...Anyaorah scored his highest total of the season (7)...The Bulldogs,
who entered the game as the SEC’s best
free throw-shooting team, struggled to a
season-low 50 percent...The game’s opposing coaches once coached six seasons
together at Kansas State (1994-2000).

2009-10 Game Recaps
Georgia 73, Georgia Tech 66
January 5, 2010 - Athens, Ga.
Game Summary
Trey Thompkins and Ricky McPhee
combined for 36 points and several clutch
plays late as Georgia dispatched its instate rival in a hard-fought affair.
Indeed, the lead changed hands five
times in the first half, four in the second. Georgia Tech, after trailing by five at halftime, took a 38-36 lead on a short jumper
by Gani Lawal with 13:53 left. It was the
final time the Jackets led in the contest.
On Georgia’s next possession, Trey
Thompkins found Travis Leslie for a
highlight-reel alley-oop dunk that knotted
the score at 38. Tech evened the totals
one more time at 43-all before the Bulldogs nudged ahead for good.
With Georgia nursing a slim lead,
Thompkins and McPhee combined for its
three biggest buckets late in the game.
The former drove the lane for an oldfashioned 3-point play with 2:14 left, as
the shot clock dwindled, to give the Dogs
a 56-52 lead. The latter sank a 3-pointer
and a running scoop shot on back-to-back
possessions to keep the Jackets at arm’s
length.
Georgia secured the victory by making
10 of 12 foul shots in the final 48 seconds.
Team / Individual Notes
Thompkins scored 14 second-half
points on 4x4 field goals, 6x6 free
throws...This was Georgia’s first win over
a Top 25 opponent since February of
2007...Three plays from this game were
featured on ESPN’s Top 10 Plays of the
Day...

Chris Barnes
Forward, 6-8, 240, Jr., 2 Letters
College Park, Ga. (Riverdale HS)
Game
2009-10 Season
• Started the season’s first five games at the low post position
before giving way to senior Albert Jackson.
• Career-best 11 rebounds came in season opener against New
Orleans.
2008-09 Season
• Given his injury-plagued freshman year, Barnes progressed as
much as any player in the Georgia program as a sophomore.
• Was rock-solid in two of the Bulldogs’ toughest games of the
season: 7 pts., 10 rebs. in 22 minutes @Western Ky...11 pts in 16
min. vs. Va. Tech.
• His 10 boards at WKU are his career best.
• Only other double-figure scoring game was a 10-point effort in
regular-season finale vs. South Carolina. Also had eight boards
against the Gamecocks.
2007-08 Season
• Promising freshman season was cut short by a knee injury in the
Feb. 16 game vs. Tennessee.
• Suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee in that game. Was
healthy and available by the NCAA Tournament but was withheld
from competition.
• Had become an important reserve in Georgia’s frontcourt before
his injury. Showed in his limited court time that he was perhaps
the Bulldogs’ best offensive rebounder.
• Recorded a double-double in his first collegiate game, with 14
points (all in the 2nd half) and 10 rebounds vs. Jax State.
• Played all the significant minutes in Georgia’s win vs. Elon.
• Season-high of nine rebounds came in just 16 minutes Jan. 26

injury in practice the day before the Kentucky game 2/28.
• Late bloomer who suddenly thrust himself to the forefront of Georgia’s
inside attack as the season waned.
• As much as any teammate, his post-season performance was a significant factor behind Georgia’s late surge to the SEC Championship.
• Strung together perhaps all of his best collegiate games in mid-February. His performance at Vandy on Feb. 23 resulted in his first-ever
starting assignment against Florida. Responded with career-best
minutes played (28) and points (12) vs. the Gators. Later bettered his
career highs in scoring (16) at Auburn on March 5 and in minutes (38)
vs. Ole Miss in the SEC Tournament.
• Through the season’s first 24 games, he averaged 1.2 points and
2.3 rebounds. In the last 20, his numbers rose to 7.4 points and 6.4
boards.
• Began the season serving a 6-game suspension for violating the
UGAA’s academic policy.
