WIRING AND NETWORkING
INTERNAL WIRING AND NETWORkING
The diagram illustrates the UniFi dual-play service set-up in your office.
TM technicians will install a BTU inside your office at your nearest existing
telephone or primary computer location. A fibre cable connection from
an adjacent telephone pole or underground DP will be run to the BTU. For
high-rise buildings, there are some cases where the fibre cabling will
terminate in the building’s SDF room. The connection will however
continue to your office using the building’s existing wiring. This will be
subject to the building owner’s authorisation and the condition of the
existing building wiring.

Broadband Termination Unit (BTU)
Two types of BTU will be deployed depending on premises type:
a) ONU for FTTH (landed properties)
b) VDSL2 modem for VDSL2 (high-rise buildings)
The BTU is a terminating unit from the Access Network (TM
Exchange). This unit functions like a modem to facilitate Internet
and data access to your office. The BTU will translate the pulses
of light that carry data over the fibre optic cable into electrical
signals that will be recognised by your computer.
17
BTU packaging will consist of:
a) 1 unit – ONU / VDSL2 Modem
b) 1 unit – 1 metre Ethernet Cable
c) 1 unit – 1 metre Telephone Cable
d) 1 unit – Power Adaptor
e) 1 unit – User Guide
4.2
Business Gateway (BG)
The BG, also known as a router, will be the main gatekeeper
for the UniFi service to your office. It controls access to High
Speed Internet and other services that connect through it. This
capability allows users to participate in real-time activities
online for businesses such as video conferencing, uploading and
downloading large files promptly and many more.
18
4.2.1 Wireless Technology – An Understanding
Wireless technology is often looked upon as a substitute to wired
line technology. However, wireless technology in itself is not
all encompassing. In the context of modern communications,
both fixed and wireless technologies have their place and use,
depending on many factors such as quality, visualisation, stability,
experience, convenience, need, environment, etc.
There is a time and place for both technologies and as such, we
see that they actually compliment and not substitute each other.
With this in view, we would like to highlight certain aspects of
wireless technology so that our broadband users in particular, can
better understand and appreciate the implications surrounding
wireless technologies.
What should I be aware of?
First up, business customers should be aware that when using
wireless technology, you might not be able to receive the same
broadband access speed as compared with the speed experienced
through wired connectivity. This happens with any service
subscribed to and provided by any service provider.
Wireless access performance may be affected by a number of
factors, such as:
1. The thickness of internal premises walls.
2. Interference from the presence of other electrical equipment.
3. The actual positioning or distance of the wireless router, etc.
19
20
In the case of TM’s High Speed Broadband service, UniFi, both
wired and wireless Internet access connectivity is offered through
the installed router, commonly known as a Business Gateway (BG).
Some facts about your Business Gateway (BG):
1. The BG is compatible with computers that are wireless-enabled.
2. If you do not have a wireless-enabled computer, you may be
able to upgrade your computer by purchasing a wireless USB
adaptor.
3. The wireless router has been specifically designed to be used
for the UniFi service.
4. It comes with a 1-year limited warranty on manufacturing
defects only.
5. Other wireless USB adaptors or devices of appropriate
standard may work with the BG, however, we will not be able
to offer support for or guarantee the compatibility of any other
equipment installed and used in connection with the BG.
Due to the existence of a large number of wireless devices
ranging from wireless cards to DECT phones currently operating
on the 2.4GHz band, it is highly probable that your wireless BG
connectivity may encounter interference from neighbouring
wireless devices, thus affecting the speed of your connection.
There are however loads of benefits to be had in using a wireless
Internet connection, including, being able to access the Internet
with lots of different devices, from anywhere in your office.
Because of the way wireless and broadband technology work
together, the downside can be a reduction in your speed when you
go wireless (compared to when connecting directly to your BG via
an Ethernet Cable).
What can I do to improve wireless performance?
1. Ethernet Cable
First, try connecting your PC directly to your BG with an Ethernet
Cable to see if it is in fact your wireless setup that is causing an
issue with your speed.
2. Multiple Users
Check the total number of users using your connection - if
you’re in a multi-user office, check that no one is using lots of
your bandwidth (heavy downloading).
3. Reboot
Electronic equipment and software can sometimes run into
problems, like ‘freezing’ or ‘hanging’ - rebooting allows your
equipment to perform diagnostic checks and forces it to reset
and restart, often fixing the problem. Simply switch off your PC
and BG for 30-60 seconds and switch them on again.
4. Position your BG (or wireless access point) in a central location
Where possible, try to place your wireless router in a central
location in your office, free from obstacles. If your wireless
router is set against a wall of your office, the signal will be
compromised due to obstruction. Otherwise, you can also try to
move your device closer to the BG.
21
5. Move the BG off the floor and away from walls and
metal objects (such as metal file cabinets)
Metal, walls, and floors will interfere with your router’s wireless
signal. The closer your router is to these obstacles, the greater
the interference, and the weaker your connection will be.
6. Reduce wireless interference
If you have DECT phones or other wireless electronics/devices
in your office, your computer might not be able to ‘hear’ your
router over the ‘noise’ from the other wireless devices. To
reduce this ‘noise’, avoid wireless electronics that use the
2.4GHz frequency. Instead, look for DECT phones that use the
5.8GHz or 900MHz frequencies.
7. Update your firmware or your network adaptor driver
Router manufacturers regularly make free improvements
to their routers. Sometimes, these improvements increase
performance. To get the latest firmware updates for your router,
visit your router manufacturer’s website. Similarly, network
adaptor vendors occasionally update the software that Windows
uses to communicate with your network adaptor, known as
the driver. These updates typically improve performance and
reliability.
8. Upgrade 802.11b/g devices to 802.11n models
802.11b/g is the most common type of wireless network device
around, but an 802.11n device is about three times faster. 802.11n
devices are backwards-compatible with 802.11b/g devices. If
22
you’re using an 802.11b/g device and you’re unhappy with its
performance, consider replacing your network adaptors with
802.11n compatible equipment. If you’re buying new equipment,
definitely choose an 802.11n model.
Wireless networks never reach their theoretical bandwidth
limits. Within a 10-metre radius, 802.11b devices typically
get 2-5Mbps bandwidth. 802.11g devices usually clock in
between the 13-23Mbps range while 802.11n devices have
been measured at the 37-42Mbps bandwidth range.
In a nutshell, what needs to be appreciated is that wireless
technologies are susceptible to various factors that will affect their
ability to provide optimum Internet access speeds. What we need
is awareness and understanding on just what these factors are.
We hope this information will assist you to optimise your UniFi
experience and enjoyment.

OPTIONAL CUSTOMER PREMISES EQUIPMENT
(CPE)
Enjoy a degree of flexibility in your premises network with the WiFi USB
Adaptor. It is available at your nearest TMpoint.
7.1
WiFi USB Adaptor
The WiFi USB Adaptor provides wireless connectivity from the BG
to your desktop computers/notebooks. This device performs like
a receiver to communicate with a wireless network.
The WiFi USB Adaptor packaging will consist of:
a) 1 unit – WiFi USB Adaptor
b) 1 unit – User CD-ROM
c) 1 unit – User Guide
Alternatively, you may choose to use the BPL technology. However, there
are several disadvantages that should be noted.
1. Home Plug or other BPL devices might be compatible with our
Business Gateway or UniFi service. However, we cannot guarantee
this.
41
2. Service quality will differ when connecting to a Business Gateway via
a BPL device as compared to via an Ethernet Cable. This is primarily
due to the nature of BPL technology.
3. Service delivered via BPL technology can also be affected by various
factors such as interference from other electrical equipment in the
vicinity, actual copper quality of your power line wiring and the length
of the power line.
Note: TM does not offer technical support for additional network devices such as
Home Plug, printer, gaming console, server, firewalls, or routers.
If you need help, please contact your supplier or the manufacturer’s helpline.

10
FREQUENTLy ASkED QUESTIONS
PACkAGE
1. Do I pay a separate bill for the services bundled in UniFi?
• All services, High Speed Internet, and Voice offered under the
UniFi package will be bundled as one amount in the UniFi bill.
• All other charges (Value Added Services, call charges to mobile
and non-TM fixed lines) that are not covered as part of the bundle
will be listed separately in the same bill.
• However, if customer chooses to maintain any existing services
even after subscription to UniFi (i.e, Streamyx, Business Broadband,
TM Homeline/Businessline), a separate bill will be given for the
chosen service maintained.
2. Does UniFi have a Fair Usage Policy (FUP)? Does the FUP differ
across packages?
• All UniFi packages are subject to a Fair Usage Policy. FUP is
a standard global practice which ensures that good quality
broadband experience is provided to all customers.
• UniFi packages for customers come with a monthly download
volume allocation. However, the FUP will not impact customers
who do not exhibit unfair usage behaviour, and will not impact the
delivery of Value Added Services.
3. Besides FUP, what are other factors that may affect my Internet
access speed?
57
• These are the factors which may affect your Internet access
speed:
1. Location of website
2. Web Server capacity
3. Network congestion
4. Multiple users or applications
5. PC operating systems
6. WiFi (wireless) connectivity
Note: You can get more information on these factors from our website at
www.tm.com.my.
4. What is the monthly download volume (FUP) imposed?
Currently, the monthly download volume has not been implemented.
However, you may note the monthly download volume as stated below.
VIP20 package – 120GB monthly download volume.
VIP10 package – 90GB monthly download volume.
VIP5 package – 60GB monthly download volume.
There will be no volume capping for UniFi BIZ packages.
5. Can I upgrade/downgrade my UniFi package?
Subscribers are allowed to upgrade to higher bandwith packages at
any time and at no cost. However, any package downgrade carried
out within the minimum contract period (normal subscriptions)
will be subject to a downgrade charge of RM200 (subject to change
without further notice). In the event of an upgrade or downgrade, the
contract period shall be renewed and a new 24-month contract will
take effect from the upgrade/downgrade date.
58
6. Where can I upgrade/downgrade my UniFi package?
Applications can be made online via the myUniFi portal at
www.tm.com.my, through selected TMpoint outlets or you may call
the Pusat Khidmat Pelanggan TM at 100.
7. When will I get my first bill after I subscribe to the UniFi package?
The first bill can be expected around 1 month after your service is
activated. The first bill will also include a one-time charge for the
installation fee and a two(2)-month subscription fee upfront for
current and subsequent months.
8. Where can I pay my UniFi bill?
For more details and updates on payment channels, you may refer to
www.tm.com.my.
9. Is there any penalty if I terminate my UniFi service?
For any termination within the minimum contract period, customers
shall pay a one-off penalty fee of RM500. There will be no penalty
charges for termination after the minimum contract period.
Customers must also settle any outstanding bills prior to termination
of the service.
INSTALLATION
1. What are the charges imposed for UniFi installation?
An installation fee of RM200 shall be applied for all packages. The
fee will be spread over a period of 5 months, at RM40/month. The
standard installation fee of RM200 will not include any additional
charges that may occur during installation as listed in the following
page:
59
*Currently waived
All additional charges will be included in the bill. If a customer requests
for optional installation, as listed below, all charges are payable direct to
the contractor (either own contractor or TM Authorised Contractor).
Optional Installation
Outside pole to FTB via

3M surface wiring
Additional Charges
Subject to contractor’s quote.
Charges are payable direct

Wiring over the ceiling*
*Charges do not include cost of standard installation cabling (internal fibre, RJ45 and RJ11)
beyond 15 metres. Please refer to the prices in standard installation table.
Any request for rewiring after the 1st installation is done will be charged at
RM150. Telephone usage charges and any purchase of Value Added Services
will be billed separately. Duration of the standard contract is 24 months.
60
2. The installation charges are quite high. How did you come about
with the amount to charge subscribers?
• The charges commensurate with the costs incurred. As you
know, UniFi is a service provisioned via direct fibre connectivity
to the office and the installation process is more complicated. It
requires a high degree of technical competence and sophisticated
equipment. Along with this, long man-hours are required to ensure
the installation work, which can be between 3 to 4 hours, is timely
and of quality.
• Due to this, we believe the installation charges are affordable.
3. How long does a typical physical installation and testing take?
• Approximately 3 to 4 hours depending on the type of premises and
the sensitive nature and complexity of fibre optic installation.
• An installation involves a site survey, ducting, piping, electrical
work and equipment configuration.
4. Does TM allow customers to appoint their own contractor to
perform internal wiring?
• To ensure that only the highest quality of service is delivered to our
customers, TM does not allow unaccredited contractors to perform
the installation of the service. Only TM or its appointed agents can
install the fibre optic connectivity at the customer’s premises.
• Customers who want to do additional enhancements to their
internal wiring may use third party contractors after TM has
completed the installation and tested that the service is working
properly. All additional costs will be borne by the customer.
61
5. What should I do if my UniFi equipment is faulty?
Free one-to-one replacements shall be granted for faulty units due to
manufacturing defects within the warranty period. Once the warranty
period has expired, customers are responsible to replace or repair
the faulty equipment at their own cost. For customer service, call our
Customer Service Centre at 100.
6. What if I need to relocate my UniFi service? Are there any charges
that I need to pay?
Relocation requests can be made at selected TMpoint outlets or
through the Pusat Khidmat Pelanggan TM. Re-connection at
the new location will be subject to service availability. A relocation
fee of RM300 shall apply.
7. I would like to change the location of my UniFi equipment in my
office from one room to another. Are there any additional charges
that will be imposed for my wiring?
Yes you can do that. However, you will be charged an additional fee of
RM150 for rewiring and an on-site support fee of RM50. There will be
additional charges on extra cable length if it is more than that provided
under the standard installation process. Please refer to the table on the
following page.
62
*Currently waived

*Charges do not include cost of standard installation cabling (internal fibre, RJ45 and RJ11)
beyond 15 metres. Please refer to the prices in standard installation table.
8. After I had relocated my UniFi equipment, additional charges were
imposed in my bill. Is there any receipt to indicate I have made the
payment?
For any additional cabling charges beyond what is provided under
standard installation, you don’t need to pay it directly to the UniFi
installer. The additional cabling charges will be included in your
first bill. However, for optional installation which involves concealed
63
wiring, wiring over the ceiling and concealed underground cabling,
you need to pay the additional charges to the contractor/UniFi
installer directly in cash and receive an official receipt.
9. I’ve never used the telephone service in my office before and I’m
going to apply for UniFi service. What should I do in order to install
the UniFi service in my office?
You must inform and discuss with your building management prior
to making an appointment for installation. Check with your building
management to ensure the existing copper line is working fine for
VDSL2 installation.
10. I use both Streamyx and UniFi simultaneously in my office. May I
use the Business Gateway as my Streamyx router?
The Business Gateway can only be used for the UniFi service. It
cannot be used for other Internet services because the built-in
system uses a different platform.
11. My company would like to set up a network by using the UniFi
service. Does TM provide networking services?
TM only provides installation for UniFi services in your premises.
Networking is done at the customer’s own initiative and expense.
12. If I need to cancel/postpone my appointment for installation, will
there be a penalty charged?
If a deferment or request to postpone an installation is made within
24 hours from the appointment time, a penalty of RM200 will be
imposed. Any deferment request made at least 24 hours BEFORE
the appointment time will not be penalised.

PENDAWAIAN DAN RANGKAIAN
PENDAWAIAN DAN RANGKAIAN DI DALAM PEJABAT
Rajah di atas menunjukkan pemasangan UniFi dual-play di pejabat
anda.

18
4.2.1 Pemahaman tentang Teknologi Tanpa Wayar
aspek-aspek tertentu teknologi tanpa wayar agar pengguna
tanpa wayar. Ini juga berlaku pada perkhidmatan yang dilanggan
daripada mana-mana pembekal perkhidmatan yang lain.
Prestasi akses tanpa wayar dipengaruhi pelbagai faktor seperti:
1. Ketebalan dinding dalam premis.
2. Gangguan daripada peralatan elektrik lain.
3. Lokasi atau jarak router dan sebagainya.
19
Bagi perkhidmatan Jalur Lebar Berkelajuan Tinggi TM, UniFi,
kedua-dua sambungan akses Internet berwayar dan tanpa wayar
ditawarkan melalui router yang dipasang, iaitu Business Gateway
(BG).
Fakta tentang Business Gateway (BG) anda:
1. BG boleh digunakan dengan komputer-komputer sedia tanpa
wayar.
perkhidmatan UniFi.
4. Jaminan terhad 1 tahun diberi kepada BG sekiranya berlaku
kerosakan ketika pembuatan sahaja.
wayar jiran, lalu mengganggu kelajuan sambungan anda.
20
Namun begitu, banyak manfaat yang ditawarkan melalui
sambungan Internet tanpa wayar, termasuk keupayaan mengakses
anda. Disebabkan cara jalur lebar dan tanpa wayar berfungsi
bersama, kelajuan capaian Internet mungkin berkurangan apabila
1. Kabel Ethernet
Mula-mula, sambungkan komputer anda terus ke BG
menggunakan Kabel Ethernet untuk memastikan sama ada
konfigurasi tanpa wayar mengganggu kelajuan Internet anda.
2. Penggunaan Berganda
Pastikan bilangan pengguna yang menggunakan sambungan
anda – jika sambungan anda membenarkan penggunaan
3. Reboot
Peralatan elektronik dan perisian kadangkala mengalami
masalah, seperti ‘beku’ atau ‘tergantung’ – rebooting
membolehkan peralatan anda menjalani pemeriksaan
Sekiranya router tanpa wayar anda diletakkan berhampiran
dinding, signal mungkin lemah akibat halangan. Ataupun, anda
objek besi (seperti kabinet fail besi)
peranti tanpa wayar lain. Untuk mengurangkan ‘kebisingan’
tersebut, elakkan daripada penggunaan elektronik tanpa wayar
yang berfungsi pada frekuensi 2.4GHz. Gunakan telefon DECT
yang berfungsi pada frekuensi 5.8GHz ataupun 900MHz.
7. Kemas kini pemacu adaptor rangkaian anda ataupun firmware
Pengeluar router sentiasa memperbaiki fungsi router
mereka secara percuma. Kadangkala, pembaikan ini boleh
meningkatkan prestasi. Untuk mendapatkan status terkini
22
firmware router anda, lawati laman web pengeluar router anda.
Penjual adaptor jaringan juga sentiasa mengemas kini perisian
yang digunakan Windows untuk berkomunikasi dengan adaptor
jaringan, iaitu pemacu. Kemas kini ini boleh memperbaiki
prestasi serta tahap keupayaan.
Sekiranya anda
membeli peralatan baru, pilihlah model 802.11n.
had jalur lebar. Dalam lingkungan radius 10 meter, peranti
802.11b selalunya memperolehi jalur lebar 2-5Mbps. Peranti
802.11g biasanya memperolehi jalur lebar 13-23Mbps manakala
802.11n mencapai 37.42Mbps.
Kesimpulannya, perlu disedari bahawa teknologi tanpa wayar
bergantung kepada pelbagai faktor yang boleh mempengaruhi
keupayaannya dalam membekalkan kelajuan Internet yang
optimum.
langgani.

a) 1 unit – WiFi USB Adaptor

bagaimanapun, terdapat beberapa kelemahan yang perlu diambil kira.

tidak dapat memberi sebarang jaminan mengenainya.
2. Kualiti perkhidmatan adalah berbeza apabila disambungkan
41
kepada Business Gateway melalui peranti BPL jika dibandingkan
dengan Kabel Ethernet. Ini adalah disebabkan oleh ciri-ciri teknologi
BPL itu sendiri.

UniFi (contohnya Streamyx, Business Broadband, TM Homeline/
Businessline), bil berasingan akan dikeluarkan bagi perkhidmatan
pilihan yang dikekalkan.
2. Adakah UniFi tertakluk kepada Polisi Penggunaan Sekata (FuP)?
Adakah FuP berbeza mengikut pakej?
• Semua pakej UniFi tertakluk pada Polisi Penggunaan Sekata
(FUP). Ia merupakan piawaian amalan global bagi memastikan
pelanggan menikmati pengalaman jalur lebar berkualiti.
• Pakej UniFi untuk pengguna didatangkan dengan peruntukan
kapasiti muat turun bulanan. Walau bagaimanapun, FUP tidak
57
58
dilaksanakan. Walau bagaimanapun, kapasiti muat turun bulanan
adalah seperti di bawah:
Pakej VIP20 – 120GB kapasiti muat turun bulanan.
Pakej VIP10 – 90GB kapasiti muat turun bulanan.
Pakej VIP5 – 60GB kapasiti muat turun bulanan.
Tiada had kapasiti bagi pakej UniFi BIZ.
5. Bolehkah saya lakukan naik taraf/turun taraf pakej UniFi yang saya
langgan?
9. Adakah penalti akan dikenakan jika saya menamatkan langganan
UniFi?
Untuk penamatan sebelum tempoh kontrak minimum tamat,
pelanggan perlu membayar yuran penalti sekali bayaran sebanyak
59
RM500. Tiada penalti untuk penamatan selepas tempoh langganan
minimum. Pelanggan perlu menjelaskan bil tertunggak sebelum
menamatkan perkhidmatan.
PEMASANGAN
1. Berapakah caj yang dikenakan untuk pemasangan UniFi?

Sebarang permintaan untuk pendawaian semula selepas pemasangan
pertama dibuat akan dikenakan caj sebanyak RM150. Caj penggunaan
61
• Pemasangan melibatkan kajian tapak, penyaluran, perpaipan,
kerja elektrikal dan konfigurasi peralatan.
4. Adakah TM membenarkan pelanggan melantik kontraktor mereka
bertauliah melakukan pemasangan perkhidmatan. Hanya TM
kontraktor pihak ketiga selepas TM menyelesaikan pemasangan
5. Apa yang perlu saya lakukan sekiranya peralatan UniFi saya rosak?
Gantian percuma akan dilakukan sekiranya kerosakan ketika proses
pengeluaran berlaku dalam tempoh jaminan. Apabila tempoh jaminan
tamat, pelanggan bertanggungjawab untuk menggantikan atau
memperbaiki peralatan yang rosak itu sendiri. Untuk perkhidmatan
pelanggan, hubungi Pusat Khidmat Pelanggan TM di 100.
6. Bagaimana jika saya ingin memindahkan perkhidmatan UniFi saya?

64
11. Syarikat saya ingin menetapkan rangkaian menggunakan
perkhidmatan UniFi. Adakah TM menyediakan perkhidmatan
perangkaian?
TM hanya menyediakan pemasangan perkhidmatan UniFi di premis
anda. Perangkaian boleh dibuat atas inisiatif dan perbelanjaan
pelanggan sendiri.
12. Jika saya ingin membatalkan/menangguhkan temu janji untuk
pemasangan, adakah caj penalti dikenakan?
dikenakan penalti.
