#Superheroes
Want to try a brand new tabletop #roleplaying game about #superheroes in our
messed up world? #UrbanHeroes is on #KickStarter, right now:
http://kck.st/PweJ4N
We have worked with a team of Italian all-star artists like Emanuela Lupacchino
(#Marvel, #DC), Matteo Buffagni (Marvel, #Diabolik), Elia Bonetti (Marvel, Radical
Comics, Soleil Editions), Andrea Errico (#Zenoscope), Manuel Bracchi (#BOOM!
Studios) and many other.

I can't try it, I'm a chick.

Oh, come on, it was a bad joke and a bad translation (something like "these
girls don't waste time, they don't joke, they're badass and play with badass
game" in Italian "queste ragazze non scherzano/non giocano/fanno sul
serio"). If you just take a look at our art and pics gallery you'll find that we're
not an evil group of sexist men but an open and passionate group of men and
women that loves to play with games like #UrbanHeroes . Now that
everything is solved can we talk about games? :)
Translate
Caoimhe Ora Snow Yesterday 7:21 PM
... that's a pretty spectacularly bad translation problem, then.
Craig Judd Yesterday 8:06 PM
I think it takes a native speaker to tread the fine line of double-meaning here.
Unfortunately the intended meaning of "chicks do not play" is a LOT less
obvious than the straight meaning - "women don't play Urban Heroes."
Also, the use of the word "chicks" with scantily-clad women comes across
as sexist and demeaning to women.
It's particularly unfortunate because of all the ads for games like Evony at
the moment that are all "18+, Men Only" with images of lingerie models. This
is what your poster comes across as.

Search for people, pages, or posts I think you would
have made a better
impression with something like "chicks
play for keeps" or "women don't play around".

Sorry, most of my gamer friends are women and therefore I cannot support
your Kickstarter. Even if it's just a "translation problem" (doubtful since the
only images of women in the entire Kickstarter that aren't in Playboy
Centerfold poses are a pile of dead corpses), that shows to me that you're
not paying attention to what you're doing in your marketing or your
translation, which points to sloppy work. So expect no media coverage from
my column with Ain't It Cool News, because I will not put my tens of
thousands of readers (statistically worth four to five figures on any
Kickstarter I mention in my column) in the position where they back a
product so shoddily done. Also, your assessment on the "Risks and
Challenges" section is woefully incomplete, showing a lack of knowledge or
research in how the gaming or publishing industries function.

Here's a short list of UH female characters, we have female (just female, not
playboy models or girls used in a sexual way) in every group like Marianne in
League for Europe, Britannia and Pixie in The Knights of the Kingdom and an
Indian nemesis of the Illuminati. That's just an example of how we intend to
proceed. Sorry again if we sounded sexist but really, now we want to move
on and continue to speak about good games.
Caoimhe Ora Snow 2:00 AM
None of the links you gave are specific links to female characters.
Urban Heroes 7:05 AM
My fault, +Caoimhe Ora Snow, here's a list of almost every post we made:
https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/110881917650334588630/photos/110881917
650334588630/albums/posts as you can see we have every kind of female
character involved in our game: from the supersexy stereotypical girl to
businesswoman, from the young rioter to the Illuminati member. As you can
see we're trying to mimic the real world and every aspect of the real life and
society. Plus that UH is a game that takes the news from our world with a
pinch of satire and humor. For more info about the project you can follow us
on facebook too: www.facebook.com/UrbanHeroesRPG or write us in PVT
there.

... the "PUSSY DESTROYERS", really?
Craig Judd 2:47 PM
+Caoimhe Ora Snow I've previously heard them mention there's a version of
the Russian all-female band Pussy Riot. I didn't realise they were adjusting
the name though...
Caoimhe Ora Snow 2:52 PM
There's a Femen/Pussy Riot expy that... well I don't know how to put this in
words.

Urban Heroes 3:20 PM
The name of the group was decided from all our fans like many other decision
(the characters to put in the main story, the adventure to develop etc). Just
to tell you our method we mocked the major of our city with a portrait of him
as a reptilian/Illuminati kind of thing during a political storm for a fan and he
become a NPC of our story! As you can see we're not want or trying to do
politics here, we're just recording the facts and put 'em in our story, with a
little bit of distortion, irony and desecrating spirit. Our Pussy Destroyers,
despite their name, (damn you, internet and damn you fans!) are an active
part of the popular and social revolution of Genetics H.E.R.O. in Russia, a
large group of people and mutants that fight non-stop to achieve equal rights,
respect, and the right place in the Russian society. Like the original Femen
their actions are mostly extreme and transgressive but their causes (equal
rights, possibility for non-human to vote and work, anti-totalitarism position,
same-sex marriage etc) are right, these proud neo-feminists are just a little
part of the Urban Heroes movement, an anti-system group of anarchist that
is trying to fight the Power to obtain equal rights for everyone on Earth-Z.

Dude, you have a topless feminist
1 character whose face literally is a drooling,
toothed vagina.
Maybe that will fly in Italy, I don't know, but in the U.S. at least, that's way
beyond the pale. I'm trying to attribute this all to cultural misunderstandings
rather than you guys just being douchey dudebros, but it's wearing hard when
I scroll down through your pictures and see that.
Urban Heroes 4:43 PM
+Caoimhe Ora Snow it's just a little part of a greater story and a game that is
genuinely trying to make the difference speaking of important political and
social problems. Please try to move off from the supposed sexism in our
game and try, please, to figure out what we have here. By the way for that
image we censored it to don't hurt anybody feelings, in the final rulebook of
#UrbanHeroes you will find it all blurred out 'cause we don't want to show
just a group of female with their chest exposed, we want to emphasize – in
some cases to the extreme – the real protest. And, speaking of protesters
and chest exposed, this is just a google image gallery of the Femen's
protests around the world: http://bit.ly/1nsW9sy They use their bodies to
make scandal and scandal to force the "common" people to speak about the
real problem. Although the method may be questionable you must admit that
the intentions are correct.
Darryl Mott 4:44 PM
Seriously, you guys aren't going to win anyone over. If you don't say anything,
the work speaks for itself and it screams "Misogynist Fratboy". Every
attempt you've made to defend yourselves make you look incompetent as
translators/localizationists, game designers, or publishers. You really need to
apologize, own up to it, scrap the Kickstarter, and go back to the drawing
board if you believe a single thing you're saying.
Caoimhe Ora Snow 4:52 PM
I'm not trying to bash on you guys. I'm trying to stop you from making horrible
horrible mistakes. You've already made several, and I am attributing that to a
vast cultural gap or something. If you're trying to sell this primarily in the U.S.,
you have to understand how it's being received here.
Caoimhe Ora Snow 4:54 PM
I don't think they need to scrap the kickstarter as much as take a step back
and realize what various people are saying. The kickstarter is salvageable
and may yet succeed, but they're not doing themselves any favors with their
PR here.
