Multidisciplinary studies major
Shanice Mzava never played on a
lacrosse team before she set foot on
UTSA’s campus, but she’ll be leaving
as the founding member of the firstever UTSA women’s lacrosse team.
After helping the men’s lacrosse team
for several years, Shanice saw the
lack of a women’s team and took her
leadership skills to the next level,
giving the rest of the university a
new tradition. As a multidisciplinary
studies major, she’s earning a degree
that focuses on not one, or even two
disciplines. Her degree combines
public health, business and sociology,
giving her the well-rounded education
she was looking for when she chose
UTSA as her university.

influence of his professors, public
administration major Drew Galloway
started a project that focuses on civic
engagement, deliberative democracy,
and consensus building. His project,
named Civic Court Project, was
recognized as a 2014 Clinton Global
Initiative University Commitment
to Action. Drew will spend his last
semester at UTSA studying, interning
and living in Washington, D.C. as one
of only 40 undergraduates across
the University of Texas System to be
selected for a Bill Archer Fellowship.

Double major in management and
marketing, Samanta Cardona took
part in one of the College of Business’
10-day intensive immersion programs
abroad, designed to teach students

business professionals. On the trip,
Samantha developed interpersonal
relationships with Indian professors,
students and successful executives
from worldwide companies such
as Tata and Honeywell. Other trips
through the college include Finland,
Russia, Korea, Taiwan and India.

Assurance and Security (CIAS),

UTSA Ambassadors and The Paisano,
an independent student-run newspaper
for UTSA. She is also an active Bulgarian
folk dancer, peer mentor for incoming

During her sophomore year, Alyssa
Schaefbauer joined a team tasked with
designing a football kicking simulator as
part of her bioengineering computation
and controls lab. The experience provided
Alyssa with valuable experience in taking
an idea from inception to completion and
was the catalyst for her decision to further
her education in the bioengineering field.

The University Health Professions Office provides
advising and support to students interested in
pursuing careers in various health professions. Firsttime freshmen can apply to the Facilitated Acceptance
to Medical Education (FAME) program, a seven-year
dual degree B.S./M.D. program with the University
of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio School
of Medicine or apply to the Dental Early Acceptance
Program (DEAP), a seven-year dual degree B.S./D.D.S.
program with the University of Texas Health Science
Center San Antonio Dental School.
The Multidisciplinary Studies degree (B.A.) allows
students the flexibility to design a degree program
that relates to personal academic and career goals.
This degree program is meant to encourage and
support creativity, innovation, critical thinking and
integrative learning. Because the program involves
coursework from departments across the university,
it offers students opportunities to capitalize on
diverse personal interests and talents through a
combination of study and academic experiences

company. Since 2007, 85 company ideas have been
formed, 12 patent applications have been filed and

jobs. Freshmen are awarded in early March and FreshmenTransfer and Transfers are awarded in early May. Students
must be admitted to receive a financial aid award. To

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the
applicable aid year and submit your every subsequent

The Special Interest Housing (SIH) program allows
