Pet Corner
The population of stray cats & other animals in the community are
increasing and becoming a nuisance. The food attracts feral cats, foxes,
raccoons, insects and other unwanted vermin. They carry disease, ticks
and fleas and leave feces in the common areas and homeowner’s gardens.
This is a health risk to adults and their children. Fines will be issued.
Dog Walk Areas:
The ONLY dog walk area is in the back of the community behind Buildings C, D, G, I, M, N. ... J and K are NOT dog walk
areas. Please walk your pets near the fence and away from windows. It’s required you clean up after your pet at all times
and dispose in tied plastic bags.
Cats:
Cats must be kept indoors. Outside cats are not permitted
Sachem Library

On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and Democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their
homeland to come to the “land of the free and the home of the brave” so they can begin their American Dream.

The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people. Each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that 
freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings. Through the Internet we are learning about
and communicating with people of different nations, with different languages and different races throughout the world.
Bringing the world closer with understanding and knowledge can only benefit all nations.
Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation’s
most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson’s most enduring monument. Here, in exalted and unforgettable phrases,
Jefferson expressed the convictions in the minds and hearts of the American people. The political philosophy of the
Declaration was not new; its ideals of individual liberty had already been expressed by John Locke and the Continental
philosophers. What Jefferson did was to summarize this philosophy in “self-evident truths” and set forth a list of
grievances against the King in order to justify before the world the breaking of ties between the colonies and the mother
country.
The Declaration of Independence: safe and sound and yours to see is in the Rotunda of the National Archives Building
in Washington, DC. Also on display are the Constitution of the United States and the Bill of Rights. These three historic
documents are called The Charters of Freedom. You can see the Charters of Freedom exhibit online.

Dog walking
Due to many new owners, as a reminder, dogs must be leashed at all times. This is for everyone's safety and the dog's too.
Accidents happen so please heel your dog keeping them on a shorter leash so they do not urinate and defecate on the lawn
in common areas or in homeowner's gardens. If it happens, it's required to clean up after your pet at all times. Thank you

The pool is finished and looking beautiful. Big Splash did a great job. Our pool manager, Scott from Big Splash will research
different types of splash fountains over the fall and winter for next year to replace the kiddy pool.
Gardening
When creating your gardens do not cover the foundation up to the siding with soil. If it is covered, please remove the soil
and leave at least 5 to 6 inches of the foundation showing. This prevents dampness and moisture against the cement creating
air flow and open space which termites do not like. Please read the following article.
How To Protect Your Home's Siding & Foundation and wood fences
Whether your home is built on a slab or other type of foundation, it comes in contact with bare earth. However, contact
with the ground is not a good thing. It is the pathway to destruction via moisture and insects. To preserve your home's
cement foundation and wooden fences, you must ensure that dirt and mulch, which can hold moisture, is properly cleared
away. Siding should ideally have at least 6 to 8 inches clearance above the ground. Any clearance is better than none. If
the adjacent ground is concrete, such as part of a patio or a sidewalk, it still requires the same clearance as bare earth. The
reason for this clearance is the closer to the ground the siding, the more easily termites can go undetected and the more
easily rodents can bore their way into your home.
Remove dirt or other material to lower the grade until proper clearance is created. Don't try to create clearance by trenching
next to the foundation. This creates a trough for rainwater to collect which is probably worse than having inadequate
clearance. What you can do is make sure the ground slopes away from the foundation so water will run off. While you are
inspecting the perimeter, keep an eye out for mud tubes going from the ground up to the siding. These tubes are little termite
highways. Termites build them to protect themselves from sunlight and predators. If you find the tubes, destroy them. A
small amount of effort will protect your most valuable asset. Don't let a simple problem cause serious damage to your home.

A resident at the north end of the community is ignoring numerous requests by the Board. They are still dumping bags of
cat food and leaving bowls of canned food in the woods and by the dumpster. Homeowners are reporting disturbances
from these cats fighting day and night. Residents from Victoria Gardens are also complaining about the growing number
of cats in the area.
What if you could wake up each day full of
energy and vitality, with that unmistakable glow
of radiant good health, abundant possibilities
and ample prosperity?

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her
husband.
In a Podiatrist’s office:
“Time wounds all heels.”
Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. 'Careful,' he
said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh!
You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them!

You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never!
Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST
your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always
forget to salt them. Use the! Salt. USE THE SALT! THE

At an Optometrist’s Office:
“If you don’t see what you’re looking for, you’ve come to the

The wife stared at him. 'What in
the world is wrong with you?You
think I don't know how to fry
a couple of eggs?' The husband
calmly replied, 'I just wanted to

I'm driving.'
On a Plumber’s truck:
“We repair what your husband fixed.”
At a Tire Shop in Milwaukee:
“Invite us to your next blowout.”
On a Maternity Room door:

At the Electric Company:
“We would be delighted if you send in your payment.
However, if you don’t, you will be.”

4th of July Facts
Benjamin Franklin is said to have
wanted the wild turkey to be the
national bird but was outvoted by both
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson.
The bald eagle is a bird of prey native
only to North America.
How many hot dogs are
consumed, on average, at
barbecues on the Fourth?
The 4th of July and barbecues go
hand-in-hand, so it's probably no
surprise that over an estimated 150
million hot dogs are consumed in the
United States each Independence Day.
Break that down and that's roughly
one hot dog for every two people in
the U.S.
What year was the 4th of July first
celebrated at the White House?
The first recorded 4th of July
celebrations were in 1777 on the oneyear anniversary of the adoption of
the Declaration of Independence. The
first 4th of July party held at the White
House wasn't until 1801, when it was
held by President Thomas Jefferson.
When was the 4th of July declared
a national holiday?
Although the anniversary of the
Declaration of Independence has been
celebrated since 1777, the 4th of July
was not declared a national holiday
until 1941. The 4th of July wasn't
referred to as Independence Day until
1791.
Why were the stars on the original
American flag arranged in a
circle?
The 13 stars on the American flag
were arranged in a circle to represent
equality between the original thirteen
colonies. Although there were several
versions of the early flag, including
one with the stars arranged in vertical
lines, the "Betsy Ross flag," which
depicts the stars in a circle, was the
most popular.

What animal did Benjamin
Franklin supposedly prefer as the
official national bird over the bald
eagle?

The best beaches can be found along the Atlantic and Pacific
Coast. Here are a few ideas you may wish to consider for
your next family beach vacation.
Florida. From Ft. Lauderdale to Miami Beach, Florida is a
prime resort area for family vacations. With perfect weather
and miles and miles of beaches, this area is affordable,
diverse, and has a wide variety of water-sports, restaurants,
and a myriad of activities for children. Cocoa Beach is
only an hour away from the Kennedy Space Center and
Disney World. In addition, Disneyís Vero Beach Resort is
considered one of the best in Florida.
Myrtle Beach. Among the many favourite activities for
children include: Ripleyís Aquarium, Le Grande Cirque,
a show quite famous for its acrobatics and other circus
performers; and Myrtle Waves Water Park. For older
children, a definite must-see is the NASCAR Speedpark.
With a myriad of dining options, shopping, and other
historic sites; Myrtle Beach has been named the number one
choice for beach family vacations in the U.S.
One of the most affordable vacations for
beach-loving families is East Hampton, New York. The best
place to stay is at the East Hampton House. The rooms are
available in one and two bedroom units that contain fullyequipped kitchens and/or kitchenettes. Moreover, you have
guest privileges at the nearby beach.
Hamptons.
Although this vacation spot does not offer food, it does have
an indoor gym and offers morning coffee there as well. But,
across the street is a deli that has an array of items on their
breakfast menu and is very affordable. In addition, there is
a Chinese restaurant across the street as well as a take-out
barbeque, and deli.
The grounds are impeccable and there is a very large pool
(one for the kiddies, too) where you can lounge in the sun. A
tennis court is also on the premises. Every room has its own
balcony with lounge chairs and a table.
If you live in the New York area, it is a 90-minute trip by car.
The East Hampton Inn is centrally located ñ five minutes
from town, restaurants, shopping, and a movie house. You
can even take a short trip to Montauk and visit the historic
lighthouse or spend time at the beach there.
Hawaii. Of course, nothing can compare to the beaches
that are in Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. No matter what island
you choose, Hawaii has the most pristine beaches anywhere
in the U.S. Moreover, there are black-sand beaches on the
island of Maui as well as a myriad of activities for the entire
family.
San Diego. Shifting to the west Coast, your family
might enjoy a stay at the Beach Cottages. This site offers
numerous amenities such as water sports, biking, as well as
an amusement park. For the kids, San Diego Zoo and Sea
World are not far from the Beach Cottages.
Centrally located to restaurants and shopping, Beach
Cottages is an affordable vacation spot where the family can
enjoy the sun, the surf, and other amenities available. In fact,
you can book a studio that offers a fully equipped kitchen.
Redondo Beach. Located on Santa Monica Bay, this report
haven is perfect for family beach vacations. Here you can
enjoy water sports, fishing bicycling, kayaking, as well as
fine restaurants shops located not far from the Santa Monica
Pier. There are many hotels that are situated across the street
from the beach or within walking distance. Each has its own
set of amenities that are geared towards families.
