Course Curriculum – WorkInCulture E-­‐Learning Crash Course Series Planning a Successful Business Course author: Diane Davy is Executive Director of WorkInCulture which creates and delivers training programs, connects the community through its robust website, www.workinculture.ca, and curates research and other relevant resources around business skills and lifelong career development for workers in the cultural sector. Davy is also a consultant specializing in the business of culture. With over 25 years’ experience, she brings senior level expertise to research, strategic business planning, corporate structure and management, marketing, revenue generation (including fund-­‐
raising and sponsorships), board governance, project management and other related topics. Davy also teaches a course on the Business of Book Publishing in the Humber College Creative Book Publishing Program and is a popular speaker and presenter. Curriculum: Module One – looks at the skills, attitudes and mindset needed by creative entrepreneurs and the key elements of any creative business. Module Two – defines the building blocks of any business plan (e.g. mission, goals, strategies, actions and outcomes) in simple and easily understood language, explains why they are important, and with some simple tools gets you started immediately on a planning process. Module Three – helps you describe the mission or purpose of your business by focusing on some key questions to think about. Module Four – focuses on planning in detail your goals, strategies and the action steps you will take to achieve what you want. Module Five – How do you know if you’re getting somewhere? This module helps you design simple tracking systems to measure your progress and adapt as you see results. Module Six – quick tips including how to keep up your motivation and enthusiasm for a long and sustainable career.
