Tuesday, January 19 at 11:30 What is a Drone? - “Drones” are probably the most advanced equipment in the field of robotics, aeronautics and electronics. The technical name of drones is “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles” (UAVs). They are aerial vehicles which come in wide varieties of sizes, shapes and functions, which are controlled either by remote or control systems from the ground. Tom Carr will join us to demonstrate his personal drone. Creative Wellness and Education Discover and Explore Acrylic Techniques Instructor: John Cannon 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 1:00. Acrylic Painting Techniques. Learn how to use acrylic paints in a variety of styles. Techniques also include alternate surfaces and addition of mediums to achieve artistic effects. Instruction will also emphasize composition and values, as well as practical aspects of creating art. Cost: $30 per class or 2 classes for $50. Oil Painting For All Thursdays, at 9:30 Instructor: Barbara Bays Join us for this four week session to learn new ideas, techniques and enjoy fellowship with friends. Colorfy Your Mind App or Pencil, you decide Tuesday, January 19 at 1:30 Instructor: Barbara Bays When coloring, children intuitively know what to do: they easily choose a design they like and the colors they want to use. By the time we are adults, most of us have lost this spontaneity and often ask: what should I do? Colorfy offers shades of childhood in coloring books for adults to promote relaxation, attention, concentration, better management of stress and development of psychomotor skills. You can bring your I-Pad prior to class and download the free Colorfy app or enjoy the feel of a color pencil in your hand and a hard copy to color in front of you. Reservations required. The Beach Ink pen and watercolor Wednesday, January 13 at 2:00 Instructor: Barbara Bays Drawing with pen and ink will give you confidence in drawing like no other medium can. Free to the public. No reservation required. Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre Murder at the Howard Johnson’s Thursday, December 17 at 10:15 All is fair in love? Even murder? That’s the question posed by the light hearted and funny suspense – comedy about a love triangle in a Howard Johnson’s Motor Inn. A story about three of the most inept murderers and murder attempts ever set to stage. We will stop by City Limits Bakery and Café and order lunch to eat at Chaffin’s. FiftyForward Martin Center Refund Policy Membership and interest in our programs and activities continue to increase. Many programs and trips require a minimum number to make it cost effective or to honor the time commitment for an instructor, a licensed driver or facilitator. When you sign up, you are making a commitment to the activity and are responsible for putting it on your calendar. Refunds or credits are not given for any activity, trip or event where there is a ticket, a reservation, or number of attendees that have to be committed in advance. All activities that require a reservation for a meal or materials provided will forfeit payment unless there is a waiting list and we can fill that vacancy with another member. Credits will be given only if the program is cancelled by the Center. Exceptions may be considered by the Center Director in extreme situations. Franklin Theatre White Christmas Sunday, December 20 at 10:45 White Christmas is a 1954 American musical romantic comedy film directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen, loosely based on the 1942 film Holiday Inn. Filmed in VistaVision and Technicolor, it features the songs of Irving Berlin, including a new version of the title song, "White Christmas", introduced by Crosby in the earlier film. Christiana, TN Miller’s Grocery Friday, January 22 at 9:45 Miller’s Grocery was in continuous operation as a country store for over 75 years in the once bustling whistle-stop community of Christiana, TN that included a 3-story hotel, a bank, a telephone office and some 15 other businesses. In 1995, the building was restored as an antique filled, country cafe featuring home-style Southern cooking and award winning “from scratch” desserts. The name “Miller’s Grocery” remains in memory of long-time proprietor Mr. Stanley Miller and as a tribute to a by-gone era. Cost: $10 Pour House Burgers, Bourbon & Brews The Gulch Thursday, January 28 at 10:15 Pour House is a locally owned and operated restaurant located in the Gulch area of Nashville on the corner of 8th and Division. Offering 28 craft beers on tap, more than 139 sipping Bourbons and Whiskeys and reasonably priced 6 oz hand-ground burgers, with a relaxed and casual neighborhood hangout. Their menu is built around burgers which are hand ground daily in-house using three cuts of meat. In addition there are salads and entrees from the grill and great desserts including their amazing pies. The first movie told the story of several British people who had decided to move to India in retirement, largely because they could not afford to live comfortably in their own country. Friday, January 29 at 1:00 McFarland, USA (2015) Actors: Kevin Costner , Mar ia Bello, MCFARLAND, USA, is based on the inspiring true story of underdogs triumphing over tremendous obstacles. This heartwarming drama follows novice runners who strive to build a cross-country team under Coach Jim White (Kevin Costner). A struggling coach and teacher who has had to move around for different incidents in his career finally comes to one of the poorest cities in America: McFarland, California. There he discovers buried potential in several high school boys and slowly turns them into championship runners and brings them closer than even he could ever imagine.
