The three-piece from Minneapolis continues to explore multiple instrumentation and rich orchestration to create songs that play on the striking contrast between bright and hopeful to dark and mysterious. Lost in the Sea of Ghosts showcases the artistic growth of the group, resulting in a beautiful record marked by driving rhythms, intriguing lyricism, and lush instrumental sounds that is sure to delight and surprise. 4:30 pm - DJ DAVE CAMPBELL 5:00 pm - THE MELISMATICS Passion. Irony. Weirdness. Melody. These are some of the core elements of The Melismatics’ sound that has been developed over the past decade through intense recording, heavy touring, and an inhuman intake of caffeinated beverages. With six albums under their belt thus far, The Melismatics have been constantly evolving their own stylings of post-punk and indie-rock. 6:30 pm - DJ DAVE CAMPBELL 6:50 pm -BEST OF FEST AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT 10 CURATED BY One Simple Plan CRAFT BEER EDUCATION Educating the public about craft beer is part of the mission of the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild. Out of the three controls we have in fermentation, your yeast pitching rate should be one of the easiest to manage. Learn about how much to pitch and walk away with a better understanding of the effects of underpitching and overpitching on your beer. Don’t let it intimidate you! Come learn why your pitch rate is essential to making good beer! ROAD TRIPS FOR BREWERIES 5:30 – 6:00p Kevin Revolinski (Author of Minnesota’s Best Beer Guide) Brewcations and pils-grimages: Revolinski reflects on beer-centric travel and the creation of his new road-trip guidebook Minnesota’s Best Beer Guide: A Travel Companion. Stick your nose deep in the glass and take a big whiff. Breathe in the bright earth, spice and citrus of the hops. Let the cereal smells of malted grains overtake your senses. Yeast also brings smells: fruit, spice, sulfur, sour and funk. see – Hold your glass up to the light. Take note of each beer’s jewel-like color and pristine clarity (or the stylistic lack thereof). Brewers take great pains to raise that frothy head. Give them back a moment of your time to admire its texture, color and duration. BEER STARTS HERE CRAFT ALL PINTS NORTH is an opportunity to sample more than 200 different craft beers from great brewers both local and not-so-local. Make the most of it by taking the time to savor the flavor. With every beer you taste, follow this simple three step process: smell, see, sample. sample – Finally, you taste the beer. The sensation is so much sweeter for having indulged in the first two steps. Let the sample sit a moment on your tongue. Is it a malty beer or do the hops hold sway? Perhaps it’s yeast that takes the day. And is that a subtle hint of spice that lurks in the background? Friendships begin, ideas are shared, and some of the best stories are told. Heck, our story began over a beer. We are a group of nice, hard-working, smart, honest and fun individuals, brewing uniquely approachable beers. Mostly American ales, but we consider ourselves adaptable, so you never know what you may find in the taproom. Our brews can be found throughout Minnesota in restaurants, bars, and liquor stores. Part West Coast IPA, part not, Traitor rebels against style definitions. ABV: 7 IBU: 70 • Foundation stout B Taking cues from old English and Irish Stouts, two brothers from the Land of 10,000 Lakes landed on their own perfect brew. The reveal? A sweet, malty roast that hints of coffee, caramel and chocolate—and finishes off clean with touches of American hops. In other words: not too schmaltzy, not too bitter. Like you’d expect from a couple of nice, well-balanced Minnesota guys. ABV: 6.3 IBU: 45 High road Come join us on the high road. We’ve got our own special beer up here, High Road Everyday Ale, a sessionable ale that is complex yet approachable. Not a blonde or a pale ale, High Road Everyday Ale is an individual. Just like those we brewed it for. ABV: 5 IBU: 24 • White IPA infused with Raspberries and Mint Our take on the White IPA is a hoppy Belgian Wit beer with Orange Zest and Coriander. Unfiltered, this beer pours pale white, with a solid head. Citrus notes abound with a clean bitterness and a citrus, slightly tart finish. Special for All Pints North, it will be infused with Raspberries and Mint! ABV: 5.6 IBU: 50 Ballast Point [BOOTH # 77] SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA | WWW.BALLASTPOINT.COM BREWMASTER(s): Yuseff Cherney | HEAD BREWER: Colby Chandler | Founded in 1996, by passionate home brewers. We at Ballast Point believe it begins with the search for flavor. The perfect balance of taste and aroma. An obsession with ingredients. An exploration of techniques. And while we savor the result, we’re just as fascinated by the process to get there. What started as a small group of home brewers, who simply wanted to make a better beer, evolved into the adventurers known today as Ballast Point. • Sculpin A trophy beer that’s a testament to our homebrew roots. Our Sculpin IPA is a great example of what got us into brewing in the first place. After years of experimenting, we knew hopping an ale at five separate stages would produce something special. The result ended up being this gold-medal winning IPA, whose inspired use of hops creates hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors, but still packs a bit of a sting, just like a Sculpin fish. ABV: 7 • Grapefruit Sculpin IBU: 70 Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easydrinking ale tastes like summer. ABV: 7 IBU: 70 • Tongue Buckler An Imperial Red Ale that’ll leave you speechless. Our Tongue Buckler Imperial Red Ale doesn’t pull any punches. This is a big brew with hops and malt in extreme abundance. The I.B.U.’s alone test the limits of your palate. Yet while the timid should take warning, Tongue Buckler generously rewards the bold with an exceptional ale experience. ABV: 10 IBU: 108 • Thai Chili Lime Ginger, Wahoo Our Wahoo Wheat is brewed with unfiltered, unmalted wheat and oats that give it a distinctive cloudy complexity. True to the Belgian tradition, this Witbier boasts a refreshing, citrusy flavor thanks to the orange peel and coriander we add to the boil. This makes Wahoo an ideal beer for year-round beach weather. ABV: 4.5 IBU: 12 Bank Brewing Company [BOOTH # 34] HENDRICKS, MN | WWW.BANKBREWING.COM BREWMASTER(s): Richard Drawdy | Born in the Bank and built in the Creamery on Main Street Hendricks Minnesota is Bank Brewing Company. This third version (yellow label) features Amarillo. We want feedback! #HopLab, via Untappd, or [email protected] ABV: 7.2 IBU: 88 Sour Bomb Berliner Weisse With 100% pucker power, Sour Bomb is unlike any beer you’ve ever experienced. We use traditional souring methods to create a light, crisp mouthfeel with unmatched tartness. High carbonation creates an explosion of citrus and lemon zest that is balanced by a bready wheat malt bill. ABV: 4.6 IBU: 7 BARLEY JOHN’S BREWPUB [BOOTH # 19] PLEASE VISIT OUR BOOTH TO SEE WHAT WE’RE POURING TODAY. Base Camp Brewing Company [BOOTH # 8] PORTLAND, OREGON | WWW.BASECAMPBREWINGCO.COM BREWMASTER(s): Justin Fay | Base Camp Brewing Company is the result of brewmaster Justin Fay’s determined vision and years of hard work. His and brewer Paul Thurston’s combined decades of professional brewing experience are evident in each of Base Camp’s recipes. Each of our beers have been crafted with an eye toward innovation and creativity as well as consistency and balance, making for awesome brewskies that are at once approachable for any beer drinker and satisfying for the most adventure-minded palate. • Lost Meridian Wit Part of our ongoing Meridian Expedition. A Belgian Witbier in appearance and malt bill, the Lost Meridian Wit has a cloudy and opaque white color and silky mouthfeel from the use of loads of wheat and oats. Then the recipe takes a firmly untraditional twist. Meridian hops deliver a brightly citrus and refreshing mimosa-like character with flavors of orange and champagne dominating the aftertaste. ABV: 5 • Ripston Rye Pils IBU: 20 The Ripstop Rye Pils is our reinterpretation of the classic pilsner lager beer: aromas of European malt and noble-type hops mingle with a dignified, refreshing, and clean malt character that is further distinguished with a generous addition of spicy rye malt, creating a beer that is at once malty, zesty, crisp, hoppy, and incredibly drinkable. ABV: 5.7 IBU: 52 • In-Tents India Pale Lager Our flagship India Pale Lager showcases a copper color that gives way to a crisp, clean lager beer perfectly balanced in its massive complexity. Dry-hopped and aged on an in-house toasted blend of white and red oaks. The IPL finishes clean and smooth, with hop aromas of wild flowers and pine, and a unique maltiness highlighted by the subtle oak character. ABV: 6.8 IBU: 62 • Ultra GnarGnar IPA Back by popular demand, the Ultra Gnar Gnar is crafted to deliver big hop taste and aroma over a smooth velvety ride of specialty-malted barley and oats. It features six different Oregon-grown flavor and aroma hop varietals, adding notes of citrus, pine, and tropical fruit to this unique IPA. As good as first tracks in fresh powder, or a perfect set on your last paddle out. Harness the Gnar! ABV: 6.7 IBU: 60 BAUHAUS BREW LABS [BOOTH # 73] PLEASE VISIT OUR BOOTH TO SEE WHAT WE’RE POURING TODAY. Beaver Island Brewing Company [BOOTH # 9] ST. CLOUD, MN | BEAVERISLANDBREW.COM BREWMASTER(s): Chris Laumb |BREWERS: Matt Studer At one time, St. Cloud was the home of six local breweries, but with the closing of the last one in 1939, local brewing became a thing of the past. Until now. Nick Barth and Matt Studer, two avid homebrewers and passionate entrepreneurs, have teamed up with local professional brewmaster Chris Laumb to launch Beaver Island Brewing Company, a venture that will revive the rich tradition of brewing in St. Cloud. • Ripple This fresh, German inspired ale has a golden color with a cracker-like malt profile. Couple that with the perfect balance of floral/spicy German hops from St. Cloud’s sister city Spalt, Germany and we believe we created the perfect session beer with a crisp, refreshing finish. ABV: 4.8 IBU: 24 • ‘39 Red IPA The name ‘39 pays tribute to St. Cloud’s rich brewing tradition. Artfully blended British and Belgian malts contribute to a slight roast/dark fruit canvas for broad sweeps of Pacific Northwest hops to provide this ale with a firm bitterness as well as citrus flavors and aromas. Cheers! ABV: 6.5 IBU: 68 • One Speed Session Belgian Enkel (Single) beers were brewed by Trappist monks for daily consumption but were rarely offered to the public. This beer is a celebration of simplicity, brewed with all organic ingredients including German hops, Belgian malt and Belgian Monastery brewery yeast. ABV: 7.5 • Sour Grand Saison Farmhouse Ale IBU: Using an old brewing technique called “three threads,” we blended a trio of unique beers into one harmonious whole. Our brewers started by reproducing The Grand Saison 2011 recipe. We used a very light base malt accented by just a touch of German Wheat and Munich malts, then fermented it very warm with a classic Belgian yeast strain to bring out the spicy flavors that are common to saisons. The second “thread” was fermented with Brettanomyces Drei (also known as Brettanomyces Trois.) This wild yeast from Belgium produces a very delicate tartness with lovely aromas of tropical fruit like mango, peach, pineapple and guava. Finally, our brewers produced a third “thread” of saison soured with Lactobacillus, a common and beneficial microorganism that we encounter every day. It gives yogurt its tang and helps to ferment pickled vegetables such as sauerkraut. In our Sour Grand Saison, Lactobacillus provides a delightfully tart, tangy and crisp, citrusy-sour flavor. ABV: 6.4 IBU: 75 IBU: 75 Red Wing Brewery [BOOTH # 15] RED WING, MN | REDWINGBREWING.COM BREWMASTER(s): William Norman | BREWERS: Scott Kolby We are the first brewery in Red Wing to open its doors since 1951, and are proud to carry on the tradition of small-batch brewing in our city. The Red Wing Brewery features historical beers from Red Wing’s past, additional beer styles that are favorites among craft beer lovers, and our own root beer. We also serve a menu of handmade pizzas, calzones and appetizers. • Red Wing Premium In 1948, a group of investors purchased the old Remmler Brewery and re-opened the property as the Goodhue County Brewing Company. Under Brewmaster Joe Mickus, the new brewery launched Red Wing Premium Beer, which was not only sold in bottles, but was also Red Wing’s only beer to be sold in cone top cans. Red Wing Premium was a lighter and crisper beer that reflected the changing American pallet of the post-Prohibition era. Our version of Red Wing Premium is a nod to the original style and is still made with Midwestern malt for a truly local brew that continues to be “Goodhue County’s Pride.” ABV: 4.7 • Remmler’s Royal Brew (oaked) IBU: 17 In 1861, William Heising began a brewery and saloon at the old “Minnesota House,” which stood on the northwest corner of Fifth and Bush Streets in Red Wing. His successor, a German named Adolf Remmler, led the brewery to become one of the two prominent beer manufacturers in Red Wing until Prohibition. We proudly re-introduce the original oak-aged 1896 recipe of the brewery’s flagship brand “ Remmler’s Royal Brew. Back in the day, this beer was greatly enjoyed by those who thirsted for something strong and flavorful, and we believe that it is time, once again, for Remmler’s Royal Brew to take its place as a Red Wing favorite. ABV: 6.3 • Stoneware Stout (coffee) IBU: 32 Collectors know that the handmade stoneware pottery produced in Red Wing for generations is of the highest quality, which is how it has become so well-known across America. Each salt-glazed and kiln-fired piece had to meet strict standards before it was stamped with the famous Red Wing logo. Red Wing Brewery produces its beers with that same attention to excel- lence that can only come from true hand-craftsmanship. This festival version of Stoneware Stout brings together roasted barley, chocolate malt, oatmeal and hops, and is aged on our own Red Wing Blend of coffee. The result is a richly-dark and creamy ale worthy of being marked with our Red Wing logo. ABV: 4.9 IBU: 29 • Good Old Zimmie’s Root Beer Some of you may remember root beer as it was meant to be “ the soda fountain kind with that little kick to it. Good Old Zimmie’s Root Beer is made in this way, using a traditional recipe with a touch of locallyproduced real maple syrup. Zimmie’s doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup, which is the major sweetener in most soda products today. Just simple ingredients for a good old-fashioned flavor. IBU: 60 ABV: 5 • Glory Days Sour Summer Ale This tart refreshing lighter ale was created when the brewhouse kettle went down and wort needed to be saved. Soured for 4 days then boiled and fermented it has a distinct lemon citrus flavor, think lemonade as beer. ABV: 6.4 • Hibiscus Ale IBU: 27 IBU: 20 • Blue Rocker IPA Inspired by Chesney’s Blue Rocking Chair song, this session IPA is designed to sit on the patio, deck, beach, wherever and just have a few through the day. It may be low on ABV, but still packs a hop charactor for any hophead out there. ABV: 5 IBU: 52 RUSH RIVER BREWING CO. [BOOTH # 35] PLEASE VISIT OUR BOOTH TO SEE WHAT WE’RE POURING TODAY. Sidhe Brewing Company [BOOTH # 55] ST PAUL, MN | WWW.SIDHEBREWING.COM HEAD BREWER: Kathleen Culhane Sidhe Brewing Company has a philosophy that all beer drinkers are potential craft beer enthusiasts. Everyone who enjoys a good cold beer is capable of stretching their palate to try something a little more daring. Where Sidhe is different from other craft brewers is that we are making this our core mission, instead of just having one or two beers targeted for the newer craft beer fan. Most of our beers are approachable session beers, arranged in a spectrum from easiest to most challenging. • Bast Kissed Cream Ale This beer is a somewhat standard cream ale style with a complex malt bill and very low bittering hops to allow the flavors of the grain to come out. There is a light biscuity note to the beer, without underlying bitterness. Light in color, moderate in gravity/alcohol. Best served cold as an ideal summer beer or year round for a refreshing treat. This beer pairs well with spicier cuisines. ABV: 5.6 IBU: 16.4 • Greenman’s Harvest Nut Brown Ale One of the first things to notice about this beer is how the complex dark malts meld with an equally intricate hop bill, with neither dominating. Also noteworthy is how the flavors can change if the beer is allowed to warm slightly. Rich and nutty, a very solid beer to go with a hearty main course. ABV: 5.3 IBU: 34.2 • Barking Cat Belgian Golden Strong Ale A full meal in a glass, Barking Cat is our biggest beer. It has the most challenging flavor of any we make, while still being extremely palatable. The use of a Belgian yeast strain delivers a pronounced banana/ clove aroma and flavor. The use of candi-sugar and honey adds even more taste-complexity to this beautifully golden-colored beer. It could be savored as the dessert after a fine meal. ABV: 9.9 IBU: 28.3 • Hopped Up McGonigal A very light IPA, and we mean it (note the IBU’s). Technically it is an India Pale Ale, but the hop bitterness is so well balanced by the malt sweetness you won’t be beaten up by the hops. It has a pronounced citrus aroma, lovely amber color and a finish that doesn’t leave your palate hop-bruised. ABV: 8.3 IBU: 84.6 Sisyphus Brewing [BOOTH # 76] MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA | WWW.SISYPHUSBREWING.COM BREWMASTER(s): Samuel Harriman | BREWERS: Ben Steingold Isaac Rysdahl Sisyphus Brewing is named after a Greek myth. Sisyphus was condemned to push a rock up a hill for all eternity, whenever it reaches the top, he has no choice but to go back and start all over again. But what does that have to do with craft beer? Our system is so small, if we ever stopped brewing, we would run out of beer. So we have no choice but to keep throwing ourselves at the boulder of existence day in and day out. Except, unlike Sisyphus, we do it with tasty beers in hand. And if you think you are clever comparing our name to an STD, sorry, you aren’t. But we think it’s cute you thought you were an original. • Brett IPA 100% Brett fermented IPA, using all Amarillo hops. ABV: 6.2 IBU: 0.1 • Citra Hop Our session IPA brewed with all late addition Citra Hops ABV: 0 IBU: 34 • West Coast IPA Our take on the classic, hoppy, West Coast affair. A touch of fresh juice is added back after fermentation to bring the apple forward on this dry, tart, effervescent, champagne-like flagship. ABV: 5.8 IBU: • Hop-A-Wheelie Hopped Apple The same midwestern blend of apples that makes up the backbone of our Freewheeler Dry is fermented down to zero plato and then dry-hopped with a half pound per barrel of chinook and cascade hops for a dank, tart grapefruit bomb of flavor. ABV: 6.2 IBU: • Road Rash Shandy Apple It has been described by one of our regulars as a “shandy that doesn’t suck.” Road rash uses our trademark midwestern apple blend, but diverges from the norm when we sweeten with freshly squeezed and zested lemons. ABV: • IBU: 5.9 Spoke Wrench Stout Apple-Bourbon Barrel Aged Spoke Wrench is the snakebite of cider world. We start with a midwestern apple blend and then brew in all of the grains you’d expect in a stout wort. The result is light in body and crisp, but with that roasty chocolatey goodness of a stout. This tongue twister of flavors is then aged 3 months in old High West bourbon barrels ABV: 6.9 IBU: • Habenero Cucumber Freewheeler A firkin of Freewheeler infused with freshly sliced habanero peppers and cucumbers. This beer is really not heavy at all. It is very smooth with no bitterness, and has a real warming, nut-like flavor and aroma. Brewed to match a traditional English mild, it has carbonation levels that are more American. Our “flagship” brew, it’s a very social drink and goes great with all types of food. ABV: 5.5 • NORTHERN LIGHTS ALE IBU: 17.4 The South Shore Brewery continues it’s dedication to innovative and progressive beer styles. As a cream ale it combines the features of a lager ( crisp and smooth) with the best of an ale (fruity and complex) into one beer. We’ve also added 5 % oatmeal and 16% white wheat for a round, smooth flavor and mouthfeel. There is a very slight hop presence. Additionally, we’ve introduced a blend of herbs into the finished product which enlivens your senses with a unique refreshing taste. ABV: 4.3 • AMERICAN PALE ALE IBU: 10.8 There are two things that distinguishes this pale ale from our standard pale. First is the color. We’ve made some minor deletions in some dark caramel malt and the most obvious is that we poured the hops to it. Much like our India Pale Ale as bitterness goes, however this beer features Northwest American bittering and aroma hops, Pallisades and Simcoe. (The IPA featured English style hops). Not for the faint of heart. A bold assertive brew with distinguishing citrus smells and flavors from the hops. Yet the malty sweetness is there enough to provide flavor stability. ABV: 6.3 IBU: 55 • BAVARIAN WHEAT Pronounce the “w” like a “v” in Wiezen. This style is of German origin and uses a pure yeast strain developed in that region as well. It is also characterized by the amount of wheat malt in the recipe. Our interpretation uses 60%. The yeast imparts very unique flavors and aromas. The flavors have been described as fruity, clove and nutmeg-like and the aromas are somewhat banana or bubble-gum. We believe you’re going to love the “lightness” in color and flavor. ABV: 5.5 IBU: 9.3 • TBD ABV: IBU: STEEL TOE BREWING [BOOTH # 69] ST LOUIS PARK, MINNESOTA | WWW.STEELTOEBREWING.COM HEAD BREWER: Jason Schoneman Here at STB we believe in working our ass off for what we believe in, following our passion, giving back to and working with the community that supports us, being conscious of the world around us, producing the best quality product we can and kicking back with great beer at the end of the day. Our porter provides a smooth pint with notes of chocolate and coffee which is sure to be a comfortable companion with character to help you get through our cold northern nights. • Trailbreaker Wit ABV: 5.3 IBU: 30 Belgium has a long history or brewing distinctive beers and is respected throughout the world for its saisons, abbey ales, and sours, but perhaps the most universally enjoyed style to emerge from the Belgian tradition is the Belgian Wit. Light and spritzy, Wits combine the sweetness of wheat with a balanced spice profile and lively carbonation. Our version of this classic style is light and refreshing with a subtle spice aroma. As a nod to the heritage of the area in which we live, we have added cardamom, a spice used frequently in Scandanavian cuisine, to the traditional orange and coriander. The result is an effervescent and slightly exotic beer which may have you dancing like the lights of the aurora by the end of the night. ABV: 5 • Boundary Waters Brunette IBU: 15 There are times when everything comes together in just the right way to make conditions so perfect that you can’t help but to enjoy them. We know those days well on the shores of the big lake, those days in the summer when the sun is out, a light breeze is blowing, the temperature is perfect and the lake is calm. We also know how fleeting those days can be and that we had better enjoy them when they come around. Our Brown Ale is a lot like one of those days, a balance of flavors which blend into a pleasant pint which demands that you enjoy it. Characterized by a slight malty sweetness with a touch of hop bitterness and balanced out by an earthy background note provided by the wild rice, you can revel in the bliss that comes from enjoying that moment when all things seem to align to make everything right.
