Apply online on the U.S. government (.gov) website: FAFSA.gov.
Start a New FAFSA – You must do this for every academic year you want aid.
FAFSA years are by academic calendar, from the Fall semester (first number) to the Spring and Summer
semesters (second number). If you filed a prior year’s FAFSA, you can select FAFSA RENEWAL and it will
Import information such as your address, phone number, tax filing status, etc. to the new application.
Correct your FAFSA or look at your Student Aid Report.

Applying for Federal Student Aid is FREE.
Apply early to get the most aid possible. Your aid may take some time to process. You may be asked to
submit additional documentation. MSUB’s FAFSA priority filing deadline is March 1st for the following Fall,
Spring, and Summer semesters. Be sure to enter the FAFSA school code for MSUB: 002530.

Go to the U.S. government (.gov) website: StudentLoans.gov.
Sign in to manage your federal student loans: complete entrance and exit counseling, sign
a promissory note, consolidate loans, etc.

You borrow money from the U.S. government, but your loan payments will be handled by one or more loan
service companies. If your school enrollment status drops below half time FOR ANY REASON, you will be
required to start making loan payments. It’s your responsibility to make standard payments OR make special
arrangements with your loan servicers. MSUB ONLY contacts your loan servicer if YOU request it.

Make sure you type in .gov for the web address so you are on the correct site.

Update Info in the National Student Loan Data System: nslds.ed.gov.
Loan servicers get your enrollment status and contact information from this website – a national clearinghouse
for student loan accounts. If your address, phone number, or email changes, you must update your account
YOURSELF within 10 days. If you leave school for any reason, be sure to get in touch with your loan servicers.
