PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT - Côte Saint-Luc
Program of activities and services PA R K S A N D R EC R E AT I O N D E PA R T M E N T FALL & WINTER 2015 – 2016 CoteSaintLuc.org/ registeronline Parks and Recreation Department Mission Statement Benefits of exercise Last year, 60 Minutes reported on a study by the University of CaliforniaIrvine that has been examining the lifestyle factors that contribute to longevity. Here's part of what the study found. The Parks and Recreation Department collaborates with its community partners in providing cool facilities and programs, accessible to all residents and contributing to a vibrant, healthy and active community. City Council e-Directory As little as 15 minutes of exercise a day helped people live to their 90s, but 45 minutes a day provided the best results. For instance, you could walk for 20 minutes in the morning and then swim for 25 minutes in the afternoon. Mayor Also, the study found that non-physical activities are important. Participating in book clubs, socializing with friends and even playing board games or cards also extends one's life. City Council Think of this guide as a menu to improve your health. It doesn't matter whether you whether you sign up for our new pickleball program, get a plot at our community gardens, take an aquafit class, socialize at a painting class, or try acting with the Dramatic Society. It's all good for you. Of course, the earlier you incorporate exercise into your life, the better. Walk up stairs instead of using the escalator. Ride your bike. Play a sport. Walk to the mall instead of driving. We're lucky to live in the safest community on the island with indoor and outdoor pools, an arena, beautiful parks, a jewel of a library and more. We hope you will take advantage of all the benefits of living in the City of Côte Saint-Luc.
