Mission Statement
Benefits of exercise
Last year, 60 Minutes
reported on a study by the
University of CaliforniaIrvine that has been
examining the lifestyle
factors that contribute to
longevity. Here's part of
what the study found.
The Parks and Recreation Department collaborates with its
community partners in providing cool facilities and programs,
accessible to all residents and contributing to a vibrant, healthy
and active community.
City Council e-Directory
As little as 15 minutes of
exercise a day helped people live to their 90s, but 45 minutes a day
provided the best results. For instance, you could walk for 20 minutes
in the morning and then swim for 25 minutes in the afternoon.
Mayor
Also, the study found that non-physical activities are important.
Participating in book clubs, socializing with friends and even
playing board games or cards also extends one's life.
City Council
Think of this guide as a menu to improve your health. It doesn't
matter whether you whether you sign up for our new pickleball
program, get a plot at our community gardens, take an aquafit
class, socialize at a painting class, or try acting with the Dramatic
Society. It's all good for you.
Of course, the earlier you incorporate exercise into your life, the
better. Walk up stairs instead of using the escalator. Ride your
bike. Play a sport. Walk to the mall instead of driving. We're lucky
to live in the safest community on the island with indoor and
outdoor pools, an arena, beautiful parks, a jewel of a library and
more. We hope you will take advantage of all the benefits of living
in the City of Côte Saint-Luc.

Swimming Lessons
Swim School
Certified by the Red Cross and I Can Swim, the Swim School
program is for children ages 6 to 16. Swimming and water safety
skills are taught in the water so that kids are always active. This
approach promotes success and encourages lifelong fitness.
A focus on individual achievement creates a cycle of success
geared to all kids. All programs are 10 weeks.
Pre-School Swimming Lessons
Certified by the Red Cross and I Can Swim, the Pre-School
Swimming Lessons are for children ages 4 months to 5 years.
Children enter at one of eight levels based on age and then
progress based on either age or ability. Eight levels increase
opportunity for parents and their children to take swimming and
water safety lessons at an earlier age. All programs are 10 weeks.
Adult Swimming Lessons
For people age 16 and older. Two levels are offered: Beginner
for those that cannot swim on their own, Intermediate for
those that have some knowledge and skills, and Advanced for
those looking to refine their skills. All programs are 10 weeks.
I Can Swim Fast
Stroke drills, endurance building and goal-setting give swimmers
the knowledge and confidence to swim efficiently and FAST.
Focus is on skill refinement and stroke enhancement to prepare
swimmers for swim team. Prerequisites: Children must have
successfully completed I Can Swim Stage 2 and/or Red Cross
level 7. For children 8 to 16 years old.
Private Lessons
One-on-one private lessons for children or adults. Lessons are
taught by our experienced coaching staff and are customized

allows parents to claim tax credits. Programs of a duration of eight weeks or more, offered at a minimum of one session per
week, are currently eligible for these credits. Parents can claim up to $1,000 for sports programs, such as baseball, basketball,
swimming, and more. For arts programs such as music, pottery, and more, parents can claim up to $500. Parents of children with
disabilities have different and more flexible rules to obtain these tax credits.
