TIP Use Cheetah on a desktop or mobile device. Cheetah’s responsive design automatically adjusts to fit any device. TIP You can set Cheetah as your default product to launch automatically on future IntelliConnect logins. WK CHEETAH/HOME - return to your Home page (specify which Practice Area is your Home via Site Preferences). If your subscription includes multiple practice areas, click the tab to access other practice areas and applicable history. ¡ C lick your User Name — Subscribed Content (Titles A-Z), Site Preferences, Logout. ¡ ? - Help and Contact Us ¡ WK PRODUCTS — switch between WK online services. ¡ History — documents and searches from prior research. ¡ Worklist — organize links to resources in user-created folders. ¡ Saved Items — Searches, Notes/Highlights, and Favorites. ¡ News — sign up for email delivery of Dailies, Newsletters, Trackers and/or Treatise Notifications. What you see will be dependent upon your subscription. Search all content using term(s) and operators, with optional integrated Refine Search Scope selector. Access your subscription content within customizable sections. Click ‘SEE ALL’ to view all items within a section. Your subscription may contain Citation Lookup for fast access to Tax materials and time-saving Practice Tools such as Smart Charts, SmartTasks, Navigators, Calculators and more! Access articles from Wolters Kluwer daily news services and Sign Up for email delivery (if available within your subscription). Choose item(s) you wish to display in a section or hide an entire section. TIP Click CUSTOMIZE in ‘SEE ALL’ view to select items to display on dashboard or hide the entire section. Each title opens to display the 1st document in that database. CONTENTS — expandable/collapsible table of contents menu for database in which document resides. Automatically expands to display context of current document, indicated with green shading/ font. Click ‘close’ or to collapse / to expand a menu section. Click the top-most left triangle to view the overall table of contents for the database. Add to Favorites or Worklists, Print, Email, or Download Open this doc in a new Browser tab. Click X to collapse the Document Panel and icons on left margin to expand it again. Details vary depending upon Practice Area and document type. DOCUMENT HISTORY Acts & Statutes, Rules & Regulations – amendment history. Tax Cases and Revenue Rulings – history of case or ruling through legal process with links to annotations and significant cases or rulings. SEARCH BAR AT TOP OF EVERY DOCUMENT — Search within the current database. Use ‘Refine Search Scope’ to select pre-search FILTERS (e.g., Document Type, Issuing Body) and/or specific CONTENT. Current database TIP Use Browser ‘Find’ (Ctrl+F on your keypad) to quickly locate a term in current document. Expand topics to drill down into menu sections. Check box(es) to narrow the focus of your search. Add search expression and click GO. Navigate to other menu topics/documents within database. ¡ View in New Window — open current document within new Browser tab/window. ¡ Click Browser Tabs - navigate between initial Cheetah site and open documents. You can right-click on HOME or other links to open a new Browser tab/window for Cheetah. ¡Browser Back command — retrace actions within a Browser tab. ¡ B lue arrow — retrace actions within a tab and access the current Practice Area (PA) dashboard. (Helpful if your ‘Home’ PA is different than the current PA. ¡ Home — open default Practice Area (per Site Preference setting). TIP Right-click Home to open Cheetah in a new Browser tab/window, with all productivity tools intact. ¡ Session/Practice Area Navigator — access a different Practice Area or recent History within a PA. ¡ WK PRODUCTS — fast access to your other Wolters Kluwer subscription service(s). Enter a citation and retrieve only the specified materials. For example: ¡ INTERNAL REVENUE CODE (IRC) — 1031 Retrieves IRC and all related History Note documents. ¡ TREASURY REGULATIONS (TREAS. REGS.) — Reg 1.163-3 ¡ IRS REVENUE RULINGS (REV. RULES) — Rev Rul 2006-20 ¡ IRS REVENUE PROCEDURES (REV. Use operators, Boolean connectors and Refine Search Scope to conduct a more focused search. TIP Hover your cursor over a dashboard title or a CONTENTS menu topic and click the magnifying glass icon to automatically focus your search scope. Search Tips SEARCH RESULTS – Click a result to open it in a new Browser tab. Return to search results listing by clicking ‘Cheetah’ browser tab. Narrow results with Filters. View synonyms, pre- and postsearch selections. Sort results by Document Type, Relevance or Most Recent. Save search Quick Answers with links to key resources may be returned at top of your search results. Results are color-coded by type and sub-type. Record Keeping: ¡Check individual box(es) and then icons to Add (to Worklist or Favorites), Print, Email or Download ¡Check top box to select 25 items on current results page Results may include both menu topics (Table of Contents entries without text excerpt) or documents (with search terms highlighted in text excerpt). To exclude synonyms: click ‘Refine Search Scope’ and uncheck Apply Thesaurus. (Synonyms will be omitted until you re-check ‘Apply Thesaurus.’) ¡Cheetah automatically recognizes most typos and searches for the corrected version. Search for: Results in: Connectors Space A space between terms is automatically interpreted as an ‘and’ connector. And & Retrieves both search terms. Example: whistleblower and anti-retaliation Or | Retrieves either or both search terms. Example: child or dependent finds documents containing ‘child’ or ‘dependent’ or both. Example: false | misleading Not - Used to retrieve documents that contain the first term only if the second term does not appear. Example: RICO not Puerto finds RICO documents that do not include ‘Puerto Rico.’ Example: deed not revocation w/# Specifies the proximity of search terms. Example: spoofing w/5 futures finds ‘spoofing’ within 5 words of ‘futures’ regardless of which word occurs first. p/# Specifies the proximity and the order of search terms. Example: spoofing p/5 futures finds ‘spoofing’ where it precedes ‘futures’ by up to 5 words. Universal Characters Finds the exact phrase. Example: “intervening rights” “…” TIP: Use quotes to search for a phrase that includes And, Or, Not. Example: “search and seizure” finds documents including the phrase but does not use ‘and’ as a connector. * Used in place of multiple characters. Example: a*ment finds assignment, amendment, advertisement, argument, etc. ? Substitutes for a single character. Example: advis?r finds advisor, advisors, advisor’s, adviser, advisers, and adviser’s. Search Operators Author: Finds documents authored by specific person(s). Example: Author: (Hamilton or Romanek) and say on pay Doctype: Finds cases, regulations, and other document types by source. Example: Doctype: Cases and Title: Young Reves State: ST: Identifies documents from a specific state. Example: State: California & partnership. Title: Searches for term(s) only in the title of documents and menu topics. Example: Title: Halliburton TIP: For best results, spell out state name in full versus using postal abbreviation. Date Restrictions On Examples: proxy on June 2010 --- or --- proxy on June 12, 2010 Before Example: proxy before March 31, 2015 After Examples: proxy after 12/31/2012 --- or --- proxy after 2012 From …To Find documents within a specific date range. Example: proxy from July 1, 2010 to October 31, 2013 TIP: Search operators may be combined. Example: Title: “Walt Disney” and doctype: no-action letters TIP: Use parentheses to enforce a logical order in your search expression. Print Email Download From Search Results - check box for desired item(s): ¡ Choose LIST ONLY ¡ C hoose COMPLETE DOCUMENTS - with option to include notes & highlights (search terms will be highlighted and docs will contain Cheetah URL) From Browse > Doc View: ¡ Optional: include notes & highlights and search term highlights. ¡ S elect Content – the current document is automatically selected. You can uncheck the current doc and/or choose other content simply by checking box(es) in expandable/collapsible menu sections (the URLs of selected documents will be automatically included.) NOTE If selected content is 7-50MB, output will be spooled offline and accessible via link sent by email. Selections over 50MB are too large and should be trimmed back. SAVED ITEMS — re-run your Saved Searches, view/access your Notes & Highlights, and link to documents/menu topics saved as Favorites. NEWS — Stay current with new developments by signing up for email delivery and/or RSS Feed of selected news items within your subscription. ¡ Change Display of CONTENT and PRACTICE TOOLS to show within sections or choose to not display a group. — select item(s) ¡ Click your UserName — use Subscribed Content (Titles A-Z) to lookup and access titles in your subscription; use Site Preference to select a Practice Area dashboard to be your default HOME page; Logout of Cheetah.
