Hilltop Highlights Page 6 MemberCarePresents: “ToEverythingThereisaSeason” “Acheerfulheartisgoodmedicine, butacrushedspiritdriesupthe bones.”Solomon On an airplane, an oxygen mask descends in front of you. What do you do? As we all know, the (irst rule is to put on your own oxygen mask before you assist anyone else. Only when we help ourselves can we effectively help others. Caring for yourself is one of the most important, and one of the most often forgotten, things you can do as a caregiver. When you are taken care of, the person you care for will bene(it, too. There are 49 million Americans with some form of disability and many of these individuals require some type of assistance or care from a family member, friend or professional. Nearly everyone will be a caregiver at some time during his or her life. Bring your own brown bag lunch on Thursday, July 14, at noon to Rowland Parlor for this informative care giving workshop and learn how to create a personalized care plan and how to also care for yourself. Please contact Judy Baker if you have any questions about this exciting new program. Glen Knight to Visit LPPC Missionary Glen Knight is going to be in town on Sunday, July 24, and will share a minute for mission during the worship service. LPPC supports Glen Knight and his mission work in the remote islands of the southern Philippines. He will also discuss his experiences after the worship service in Williams Hall and there may be a brief time for questions and answers after his presentation. For further information on Glen’s ministry see www.remoteislandministriesph.org. Dr. Reeta Rao to Visit Old Norriton Missionary Dr. Reeta Roa and her husband, Hari, will be visiting our area on Saturday, September 17. There will be a reception at Historic Old Norriton from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm where you will be able to personally speak with Reeta and her husband. Then at 4:30 pm Reeta will present a program discussing her many experiences in ministry. Dr. Rao is the director of the Society for Nurture, Education and Health Advancement, a Christian ministry in the slums of India. Children are educated and women are taught reading, computer basics and income producing skills. For more information on her mission work, go to www.pcusa.org. Hospitality Center Donations The Hospitality Center requests supplies to help in their daily ministry. The Center offers the homeless a place to receive mail, make a phone call, get out of the weather, look for a job or an apartment and take part in a Bible study and 12-Step Programs. You can help by (illing a yellow bag (available in the Atrium) with such items as toiletries, socks, gloves, hats and paper goods (list attached to bag). Return the (illed bag to the Fellowship Table in Williams Hall. LPPC participates in this project year round and the Hospitality Center especially needs our help during the summer months. Getaway Weekend 2016 It is not too early to mark your calendars and get excited for this fabulous annual event! November 4-6 at Camp Innabah. On-Line Giving On-Line Giving is now available! LPPC’s website now offers the opportunity to give on-line to LPPC. It’s a quick and convenient way to make a one-time or recurring gift to LPPC. Under the Ministries menu of the web site, click on Stewardship and then click on On-Line Giving. Job Search Assistance Returning members of our military, recent college graduates and anyone else in need of assistance with resume writing, job search strategies and interviewing are welcome to contact Leanne Wentz of the Member Care Committee at [email protected] or 610-489-4037. Hilltop Highlights Page 11 The Office of Deacon ÂV{ÉáxÇ V{ÉáxÇ àÉ fxÜäxÊ Get to Know Your Deacons BobJaworski My name is Bob Jaworski, and I am the Deacon for Parish 21, Smith - Straton, assisted by Elder Bill Cribbs. This is my second year as a Deacon. I have previously served for three years as an Elder. I am the co-chair of the Hospitality Committee, so you will often see me in the Atrium or in the kitchen. I grew up in Lancaster as a Roman Catholic, and remained Catholic as I attended Penn State and then moved to Downingtown and then Eagleville. Though I went to church regularly, I didn’t really do much with the church aside from the one hour Sunday mornings. When I met my wonderful wife Alice in 1998, we visited churches in the area and really liked LPPC. We were married by Reverend Schmidt in 1999. I started getting involved in LPPC activities (irst through my awesome children, Eric (who will be a junior at Methacton this fall) and Katherine (who will be in 8th Grade at Arcola Middle School this fall) - Cherub Choir, working in the nursery, and helping with other children’s activities. I had never been to any Bible Study classes (I thought I wasn’t “religious” enough to be interested in Bible Study) but Reverend Smith was offering a Bible Study class during Sunday School hour, and I was taking my kids to Sunday School anyhow, so I went to one, and found it truly enlightening. After that, I started regularly attending our different Adult Sunday School programs. Professionally, I graduated from Penn State and Villanova with degrees in Computer Science, and have worked in software testing and software development for very large and very small companies in this area. I enjoy bike riding, playing sports with my family, and cheering for my children at their soccer and basketball games. On most Sundays you can (ind me in my “assigned seat” in the (irst or second row of the balcony at the 11:00 service. I am looking forward to serving you as a Deacon. Saturday,September24,2016 It’s time to get ready for our Annual Bazaar and a celebration of the 70th year of this successful event. Come join us for a day of fun and fellowship and support a worthy cause for your church community. There are openings for all to help for a few hours or see below if you can help chair a speci(ic area. The Bazaar is LPPC’s major fundraiser that allows us to address areas that are not part of the Church’s operating budget and also helps us more fully support worthy ministries in our community. The mission proceeds (20%) from the 69th Annual Bazaar were donated to Philadelphia Project. The other 80% was allocated towards the completion of the Sanctuary improvements and towards the camera security system for the Atrium. Additional funds were applied towards future mission trips. Suggestions are already being considered by the Mission and Serving Committee and the Nurture and Parish Life Committee. Stay tuned to see what programs are selected by these committees and how you can support them by helping with the Bazaar. DEADLINEFORADSANDPATRONSISSUNDAY,SEPTEMBER4 SILENTAUCTIONDONATIONS It is time to think about the Fall Bazaar and it is not too early to consider an item for the silent auction, of which I agreed to be the chair for the second year! Being held on Saturday, September 24, 2016, this is our 70th bazaar… what a milestone! Once again I would like to challenge every family and every small group within the church to donate one item, large or small. It can be a food item, a handcrafted item, a service item, a specialty basket, etc...think outside the box! The themed baskets prepared by our church circles and various families last year were quite popular, and I’d like to encourage these to continue. Contact me if you are willing to donate an item or basket, especially to “claim your theme.” Summertime is the perfect time to get creative! I am also mailing out letters to local businesses soon; however, if you frequent an establishment or have an “in” to any particular business, please let me know. I will gladly prepare an of(icial letter; but if you are willing to hand -deliver it, we are more likely to receive a donation. For example, Judy Baker asked her Zumba instructor for a donation, and she made up a basket! So, don’t wait until fall, because the Bazaar will be upon us before you know it! Have a great summer!
