THE HISTORY
OF SUPERSTEER® PRODUCTS
SuperSteer® products are a direct result of the knowledge and
experience gained at Henderson’s Line-Up, a family-owned
business that opened its doors in Grants Pass, Oregon in 1961.
Back then, Henderson’s specialized in alignment and brakes for all
kinds of vehicles, but by the late ‘80’s, Henderson’s became known
in the RVing community for its expertise with motorhome chassis.
A Thorough Inspection
And Accurate Diagnosis
In an effort to solve some of
the problems for which there
were no readily available
solutions, SuperSteer®
products were introduced, with
a simple goal in mind:
“Safer and Happier Driving.”
Today, SuperSteer provides
handling and suspension products for most
popular motorhomes and pick-ups.
If you were building a house on the side
of a mountain, wouldn’t you like to know
what the foundation looked like? Of
course you would. Well, the chassis is
the foundation for your home on wheels,
and we think it’s important that you
understand what’s going on down there.
To this end, we recommend what we call a
Road Performance Assessment, (RPA®),
developed by Henderson’s Line-Up. The
RPA is a systematic, diagnostic road test
that reveals steering and suspension
problems over a variety of road surfaces.
Highways, curved and narrow roads, sharp
turns, even bumps and ruts are included in
the RPA to re-produce the very symptoms
communicated to us by concerned coach
owners. During the RPA, the coach is
weighed to determine its weight
distribution, and then driven into the
inspection bay for a 50-point inspection.
The coach owner is then presented with a
completed RPA form, which explains the
problems and solutions needed to correct
and/or enhance the coach’s performance.
If you don’t have SuperSteer products
installed at Henderson’s Line-Up, we urge
you call SuperSteer to find an authorized
RPA service center near you. After all, the
most important first step toward “Safer and
Happier Driving” is an accurate diagnosis.

Bottoming Out: When the
suspension travels to its lowest limit
and makes contact with the
suspension stops.

Bounce: Bouncing may occur in the
front of the coach, the rear, or both.
Bump Steer: Occurs when the coach
hits a bump and the steering wheel
suddenly jerks to one side or the
other on its own.
SuperSteer® Bell Cranks/Idler Assemblies
Dog Tracking: When the rear wheels
of the vehicle do not follow or line up
with the front wheels.
Looseness or Steering Play in some vehicle
steering systems can often be attributed to a
component known as a “bell crank” or
“idler”, which supports the steering
linkage. Original equipment designs
utilize common sleeve bushings,
which often wear out prematurely
and cannot be adjusted for Side Play.
By contrast, SuperSteer bell
cranks/idlers utilize tapered roller
bearings, which are far better at
carrying load and can be
adjusted to achieve precise
movement.
Harsh Ride: The vehicle rides stiff.
You can feel every crack, rut, or bump
in the road.
Porpoising: The coach will teetertotter in a front-to-back movement
after encountering a bump in the
road.
Returnability: After a turn is made,
the steering wheel should come back
to center.
Ride Height: Determined by chassis
type and is measured accordingly.
Example: On a P32 chassis, it is
measured from the top of the bump
stop to the bottom of the striker plate.
Road Wander: The coach wants to
move left or right even if the driver is
steering straight.
Rut Tracking: The coach follows
either the grooves worn into the road
or ridges that have been created
where an asphalt surface meets a
concrete road surface.
Shimmy: Occurs when the coach
hits a bump and the steering wheel
“shimmies” or shakes back and
forth.
Sway: The coach leans, sways or
rocks in a side-to-side motion.
Tail Wagging the Dog: The rear end
of the coach tends to swing to one
side or the other.
Wind Drift: The coach is being
pushed off its centerline of travel due
to cross winds or passing vehicles.

The bell crank/idler arm attaches to the bottom of the bell crank and to the
steering center link on Chevrolet/Workhorse P32 chassis. All of the pressure
from the steering gear box is transmitted through the
SuperSteer P30/32
bell crank/idler arm joint on the driver’s side, which

Almost every RVer has experienced that uneasy feeling that occurs when the
steering wheel is turned suddenly—a swinging motion that threatens your control
over the vehicle. SuperSteer’s Trac Bar puts an end to that “Tail Wagging the Dog”
sensation, greatly improving stability and driver confidence. Made from heavygauge steel and powder coated for long lasting good looks, the SuperSteer
Trac Bar attaches at one end to the frame and the other to the rear axle,
preventing axle side-to-side motion. The SuperSteer Trac Bar features
polyurethane bushings and installs using existing mounting points.

A chassis manufacturer has no way of knowing what coach body will be
placed atop its chassis, how much it will weigh, or how that weight will be
balanced. As a result, we have found that some motorhomes built on the
Workhorse chassis don’t have even weight distribution, which can result in
listing, Harsh Ride, excessive Sway, Porpoising, changes in toe, and
accelerated tire wear. SuperSteer® coil springs are manufactured to match
the weight of your motorhome, thereby restoring Ride Height, proper
suspension geometry and ride quality.

Reduces Sway and Body Roll in air
suspension equipped coaches
If you own a motorhome with air spring
suspension, then you’ve undoubtedly experienced
a rocking and rolling sensation when driving
into/out of driveways or other uneven road
surfaces. The SuperSteer Motion Control Unit
(MCU) is a simple, effective and very inexpensive
solution to this problem. The MCU installs in the
air spring supply line(s), and contains a baffle
that prevents rapid movement of air into and

“On-the-Fly control” for your Safe-T-Plus
The SuperSteer Trim Unit provides “on-the-fly”
steering trim adjustment when combined with
the popular Safe-T-Plus hydraulic steering
control unit. Simply point the wheel in the
direction you want to go, flip the switch and a
new center point is established. The Trim Unit

SHOCK ABSORBERS
With standard shock absorbers, the
rebound damping characteristic is
defined by the oil flow through the
piston assembly (1).
The KONI Frequency Selective
Damper has an extra valve (2) that
controls an oil flow parallel to the
piston assembly. This valve allows for
ample movement of fluid over high
frequency inputs such as expansion
joints and rough roads, which gives
the vehicle a smooth ride.

Air from the coach’s air brake system is routed through a patented device in the
operating unit that creates vacuum for the dinghy vehicle’s power brakes, even though
the engine is turned off. That means as soon as you touch the brakes in your coach, the
brakes in the dinghy are applied at the same time. Because Air Force One ties into the
dinghy’s brake system, there’s no need for a big, clunky device — the actuator is
very small and mounts out of sight. The SMI Air Force One mounts
permanently in the dinghy vehicle—so when it’s time to travel and you

Permanent solution for coaches with hydraulic brakes
The new Stay-In-Play DUO uses both air and vacuum in
its operation to activate the towed vehicle’s brakes
quickly and efficiently. DUO is the only brake system of
its type to require two separate and distinct signals
before it will apply the towed vehicle’s brakes.
Combining two signals means that when you down-shift
your coach without applying the brakes, the DUO will
not activate; other tow brake systems that sense
deceleration could activate, causing drag and premature
