Watts Bar Fishing Report: The lake surface
temperature is 74 degrees in most areas. The
surface elevation on 6/09/13 was 741.5 feet. This
elevation is .5 feet higher
than the highest elevation considered normal.
Smallmouth bass are being
caught in greater numbers
than any time in recent history. Primary points are the
location most are finding
a few smallmouth. Crankbaits, flukes, and spinnerbaits are the lures most are
using to catch smallmouth.
Largemouth bass are being
caught along gradual sloping banks in secondary and
primary locations. Several largemouth bass have
migrated into the summer
areas located along humps
and points in the deep primary locations. The tailwaters below Ft. Loudon Dam
is being visited by many
anglers. Crappie

are being caught in the still water on the lock
side of the dam. Minnows and jigs are being
used for bait by most anglers. The real tailwater story is the stripers. Many stripers of all
sizes were being caught this previous week.
Some stripers up to 50 pounds were caught.
Shad, Redfins and jigs were being used to
catch stripers. Catfish drifters were catching
several fish while using the normal smorgasbord of baits associated with catfishing.

HIWASSEE / OCOEE RIVERS
Hiwassee River Fishing Report: The water flow is normal. The average temperature
of the river is 53 degrees. Many anglers are
visiting the area from points afar. Those folks
along with the regional and local anglers
sometimes create crowded conditions. Local
anglers seem to prefer low water conditions.
Flies, spinner-type lures, corn and worms are
being used more often than other baits. Several anglers are catching up to 50 fish each
trip. Waders and bank anglers are catching
fish, but the drifters are catching the greater
numbers. Rainbow and brown trout are being
caught more than other species.

Hunting Guide call J.L. at (865) 693-7468
Parksville Lake Fishing Report: The water
temperature on 6/09/13 was 74 degrees. The
lake elevation on the same day was 823.5 feet.
This elevation is nearly 5.5 feet below normal
elevation. Spotted bass are being caught by
anglers casting 3 inch jerkbaits around points
and fishing plastics tight in cover. Largemouth
bass are being caught more often on the upper
portion of the lake. Plastic worms used around
rocky or brushy areas in shallow places is the
type of water where most largemouth are being found. Crappie are being caught by those
anglers using minnows or jigs around brush
and blowdowns on steeper banks. Bluegill
and a few redear sunfish can still be located in
very shallow areas. - TWRA -

Class B State Fishing Record Set for Smallmouth Buffalo
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has
confirmed a second state fishing record in the month April for Class B
(method other than rod and reel) which came for a smallmouth buffalo.
Reece and Jonathon Bledsoe (both of Lobelville) took the fish by
archery on Kentucky Lake in early April. The smallmouth buffalo weighed
68 pounds, 8 ounces and was 51 inches long. The new record fish surpasses the previous record of 64 pounds set in 2003, which also came on
Kentucky Lake.

SMALLMOUTH, LARGEMOUTH AND SPOTTED
BASS: Good
Catch rates have been low for this reporting period.
Crank and spinnerbaits still remain very productive. Jerk baits
have been effective. Umbrella rigs are commonplace on the lake
and are proving effective on suspended bass
.
Bass are on the shorelines to 14 feet with the best fish holding in
deeper water to 40 feet. Creeks are still fishing better than the
main bay areas with the heaviest fish center channel on the mud.
Poor Valley Creek saw a bit of an upturn in bass action this past
week. Fish all island inlets and tiny island bay areas. Find
under water depressions, ditches and rock piles as well as fast
drop offs on points.

CHEROKEE LAKE FISHING REPORT
STRIPED BASS: Good
Striped bass activity has been acceptable over the past week.
The area just below the John Sevier overflow dam remains a
desirable location for anglers to catch stripe bass.
The bay near Twin Churches access area has provided reliable
fishing as well as the bay in front of Kidwell Access. Areas near
points 20 and 21 are still producing fish. Striped bass have
not held to one location for long during this past week. They’ve
been here today and gone tomorrow.
(Con’t on page 13)
CHEROKEE LAKE
(“Fishing Report”.. con’t from p. 12)
Shad colored swim baits have been a good pick of lures for the
clear water. Trolling these big baits seems to be the accepted
method of fishing on the main bay as well as deep creek mouths.
Tight lining live shad is a popular method for stripers. Large jigs
in green color and green swim baits are preferred bait and are
effective. Live shad seems to be the most selected bait on the
lake over the report period. Use green swim baits for deep fishing
either singular or on an umbrella rig. Remember that three hooks
per rod is the rule. A treble hook is considered one hook.
CRAPPIE & BLUEGILL:
Crappie: Good
Bluegill: Good
Crappie and bluegill fishing are good. This section remains unchanged
Crappie are distributed along all bay shorelines and creeks with
the creeks providing the best fishing.
Poor Valley and German Creek had been fishing well up until the
rapid depth changes over the past week. Hopefully, when water
levels recede to normal, crappie and bluegill successes will return.
Small, weighted crappie spinners fished deep to twenty feet have
worked well, especially during high water levels. The preferred
color is green. Crappie jigs in green fished deep are catching the
most fish and definitely the largest fish over this past week. Both
bluegill and crappie are, however, on the shorelines. Creek fishing
offers the best chance to fill the creel. Larger fish are now being
caught against the rocks along the creek channels. Bobbers with
minnows as well as hair jigs are affective, especially along creek
banks that contain rock and plenty of wood. Trolling has been and

probably is advised for crappie as long as current water
conditions persist.
The Kidwell Access Area backwater has been really
fishing well. Caney Creek saw an incline in catch rates
while Poor Valley Creek is very productive. Fish all
shorelines containing any kind of cover. Focus on creek
mouths with depths to twenty or thirty feet. Fish crappie
spinners along boulders and any wood. Concentrated
floating logs and other debris at the back of creek channels will occasionally hold crappie and bluegill.

Fish and Wildlife Commission Approves 2013-14 Hunting Seasons
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Resources Commission set the state’s 2013-14 hunting seasons at its May 30-31
meeting which concluded Friday at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Ray Bell Region II Building.
TWRA staff had presented the recommendations on upcoming hunting seasons at its April meeting with few changes for 2013-14. Tennessee deer hunters will again see an increased opportunities for harvest in the coming year.
Tennessee’s deer hunting is divided into three units, with Unit L being the most liberal. Crockett County in West Tennessee was approved to be moved to Unit L. Numerous counties in units A and B were recommended for increases in antlerless opportunities.
In regard to the bear hunting seasons, there were minimal changes proposed. To avoid a conflict with the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday,
the main bear gun season is will open on Friday, Nov. 29 rather than Thursday.
During fall turkey season, several counties in southern Middle Tennessee are having their bag limits reduced. The bag limits in Giles,
Wayne, and Lawrence counties will be one while Lincoln County will be three. The fall turkey season counties included three expansions to include Meigs, Rhea, and Roane counties to have bag limits of one.

Fishing is good, water temperature is 79
degrees; lake is stable. Walleye are being
caught while trolling crankbaits and nightcrawler rigs in 10-to-15 feet of water, around
points and flats. Bass fishing is fair at night
with spinnerbaits, jigs and soft-plastics, while
fishing points and grass in 10-to-20 feet of
water.

CENTER HILL LAKE
Meadow Park Lake Welcomes Visitors From Neighboring States
All throughout the state
of Tennessee cities and counties
welcome visitors from our neighboring states. Like many of us
who look forward to our yearly
visits to surrounding states, folks
from our neighboring states
look forward to visiting with us.
Tommy Morrison Jr, from Lyerly,
Georgia began coming to Meadow Park “City Lake” as a young
boy with his Dad. Tommy’s Dad
and his friends affectionately
know by park staff as the “Georgia Boys’ began coming to the
“City Lake” in the 70’s. Tommy
lost his Dad in 2012 but he
continues to return to Crossville,
Tennessee’s “City Lake”. Recently Tommy introduced his wife Anna to “City Lake” and park staff for the first
time. As you can see Anna Morrison fits right in and shows off her skill for catching big bream (photo above).
Both Anna and Tommy caught their limit of bream each day. They caught some nice bass too. From the
looks of them with their catch back at the ramp, someone’s gonna have a nice fish fry.
Kevin Henderson of Lyerly, Whitney Morris, Nathan Ward of Summerville and Tommy Morrison of Lyerly, Georgia are among the second and third generation Georgia regulars, affectionately known as “Georgia
Youngons”. Meadow Park Lake Manager says they have more visitors from Georgia during the month of May
than any other month of the year.

OLD HICKORY LAKE
Old Hickory lake anglers continue to report excellent crappie fishing
in 3 to 5 foot of water. The crappie may have spawned out by now,
but are still being caught in depths similar to where they have held
for several weeks or longer. Small jigs are working best
The bluegill bite is also good, but should get better as the waters
continue to warm and we get closer to the middle of the month.
Catfish are hitting some below the dams and on the lakeside, too.
Bass fishing on Old Hickory has been fair.
Percy Priest: Crappie have moved out of spawning areas and can
be fround around deeper structure. Some anglers have already
began trolling for the, but that fishing should only improve through
the summer.
-Bluegill fishing is good. Fish shallow areas, shallow points, or
coves with crickets or tiny plastic baits and jigs.
-Hybrids and stripers are being caught extremly early in the a.m.
until a tad after sunset, according a few anglers.
-Trout fishing: This will begin to pick up on the Caney Fork and Elk
rivers (and other tailraces) as the rains slow down and the waters
below the dams become less turbulent. That is happening and look
for trout anglers to be doing extremly well starting in June.
