I acknowledge that what makes this school different from a public school is that the Gospel is the foundation upon which all instruction takes place. Children will learn about, serve and honor God in this school. I understand that a Catholic Education is a financial sacrifice. All families contribute to the cost of their children’s education.I understand that my child’s enrollment in this school depends upon the following: 1) I will participate in the spiritual development of my child. 2) I will become aware of the behavioral expectation of the school by reading the handbook and make sure my child respects the rules. 3) I will support my child’s academic growth by checking for assignments and teacher communication. 4) I will read with my child regularly. 5) I will make sure my child is on time and in school each day. 6) I will make my agreed-upon fees and tuition payments on time. I will call the school immediately if there is a real financial emergency. 7) Should I have trouble meeting any of the above expectations, I will contact the principal immediately to set up a time to respectfully discuss and build a plan for addressing the problem. Henry Ford famously said “Anyone who keeps learning stays young.” We know that learning takes place our entire lives. While schooling takes place when we are young and graduations are single moments in time, every experience in our lives is an opportunity to learn. The Catholic Inner-city Schools Education Fund (CISE) embraces the philosophy of lifelong learning. CISE is supporting the education of over 1,800 children in eight Catholic elementary schools. Through fostering excellent teaching, CISE is changing the lives of these children every day. While traditionally focused on elementary education, CISE also supports the success of students in grades 9-12. With a diploma from an excellent Catholic high school, our students are assured entrance into college, and emerge into adulthood well prepared for life ahead. Even more importantly, we foster a love for lifelong learning within our students. With over three decades of supporting students, it is gratifying to see how CISE graduates are continually growing and are passionately changing the world for the better. CISE could not be successful if it were not for your continued generosity. I encourage you to visit one of the eight CISE elementary schools to witness firsthand the quality of a Catholic education. Together with your support and the determination of our students, we are rewriting their futures, starting in preschool and providing support all the way through high school. Thanks to ten quality preschool classrooms in the CISE schools, serving 145 three and four year olds, our students start kindergarten ready to learn. Reading proficiency by third grade is the most important predictor of high school graduation and career success. Yet every year, more than 80 percent of low-income children miss this crucial milestone. The CISE 3rd grade students are reading at grade level. “This is the best school I ever attended. Every year I went to a different school, but this one is the only one that makes me feel alive, honored and happy. This school is the best in America!” ~Steven, Grade 5, Holy Family School 4 “I really can’t tell you how much I appreciate the high school scholarship I received. My mom and I are so thankful. For years my mom has taught me to give back to those less fortunate. Although we don’t have much, my mom still finds a way to volunteer and help those in need. My mom will feed anyone who is hungry and give clothes to anyone who needs them. I am finally happy to see someone helping my mom. She gives selflessly to others without any recognition and this scholarship has surely made her smile. This scholarship has had a great impact on my life and I hope that one day I can pay it forward to another young person just like me.” ~ Brandon, Gr. 8, St. Boniface School “I want to thank CISE for the financial support that made it possible for my Mom to send me to a great school that prepared me for high school. They are pictured here with keynote speaker, City Council Member,Yvette Simpson. High School Grant Program The success of CISE extends beyond our eight elementary schools. Through a donor-directed high school grant program, which was established in 2000, CISE graduates receive assistance to attend a Catholic high school in Cincinnati. Wood 5 2014 CISE Annual Campaign Phil McHugh, President of Fifth Third Investment Advisors division and CISE Board Member served as Chair of the 2014 CISE Campaign. Tim Elsbrock and Tom Schiller supported him in this outstanding endeavor as co-chairs. Mr. Elsbrock is Senior Vice President and Director of the Investment Advisors Division for Fifth Third, Cincinnati, and Mr. Schiller is Senior Vice President and Senior Commercial Lender for Fifth Third, Cincinnati. This Fifth Third Leadership Team helped raised over $2,600,000 in unrestricted funds to benefit students in the schools supported by CISE, well exceeding their $2,500,000 goal. In an editorial, which was published during the campaign, Mr. McHugh said, “Education can awaken a mind, inspire a spirit and fundamentally change for the better the life not only of a child, but also of an entire community. We all benefit from an educated society.” We at CISE are so grateful for the leadership of Mr. McHugh, Mr. Elsbrock and Mr. Schiller, which led to the success of the 2014 campaign. Their efforts and those of our many volunteers and generous donors will help change for the better the lives of the 1,800 students in the CISE schools and also the entire community! Young Execs Kick-off Faith in Education Award At the 2014 Campaign Kick-off Celebration, Faith in Education awards were presented to Mr. James (Rick) Reynolds and The Sisters of Charity represented by Sister Joan Cook. This award is presented to those who have provided outstanding support for the advancement of the mission of CISE. The 2014 CISE Young Exec Kick-off was held at the St. Francis Seraph Friary Courtyard. Special guests were UC Men’s Basketball Coach, Mick Cronin, and Xavier University Men’s Basketball Coach, Chris Mack. Papal Award Archbishop Schnurr presented Pete Bushelman with a papal award, the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Medal. This is the highest medal that can be awarded to the laity by the Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Bushelman is an original CISE Board Member and volunteer, who has served tirelessly in both capacities for 34 years.
