3DCS SA and V5 Compatibility • Benefits • Quick and Easy Cross Model Compatibility • SA and V5 models can be easily interchanged • Analysis Model data structure is the same • Analysis Results are the same • Math Geometry is different, but it is only used for feature creation, process and tolerance animation • Common User Interface • Data Flow and Storage • Model Conversion Process • 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 • 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS SA & V5 Common User Interface • • • • Icons Menus Dialog boxes MTM Routines • • • • 3DCS V5 Navigation Tree Simulation Sensitivity GeoFactor • • • • Modeling Process Feature Selection Custom Code GD&T Display 3DCS Analyst 3DCS SA & V5 Data Flow and Storage Main Data Flow Optional Storage PDM CATIA V5 .CATProduct .hsf files (Hoops Stream Format) 3DCS V5 3DCS SA 3DCS .wtx 3DCS .wtx file contains all modeling data: • Assembly Structure • Pts & Features • Moves and Asm Process • GD&T & Tolerances • Measures 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 Process to convert a 3DCS Analyst SA variation model to 3DCS V5. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Export Model from 3DCS SA (Optional Step) Import .wtx file in 3DCS V5 Load the V5 Geometry Update Model and Link Features (Optional Step) Complete! 3DCS SA 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 1. Export Model from 3DCS SA (Optional Step) a. Open the 3DCS SA Model .wtx file in 3DCS Analyst. b. Nominal Build and Separate to validate model is loaded. c. Branch into the desired sub assembly to be exported d. Export the wtx file by selecting "Export wtx" from the 3DCS menu or simply doing a Save. Note: This step not required unless only a sub assembly of the original large model is desired. 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 2. Import .wtx file in 3DCS V5 a. Launch 3DCS V5 and with an empty CATProduct file. b. Select "Open .wtx file” from the 3DCS menu. c. Alternate process: Open V5 Assembly with shaders already applied and “Import” 3DCS Model. Notes: All part and assemblies are automatically created as place holders to load the V5 CAD. The identical 3DCS Variation Analysis model is now loaded in the 3DCS V5. Features used in DCS Feature MTM's (Moves, Tolerances & Measures) and GD&T will be displayed as a mesh or solids based on the display mode. DCS coordinate and Feature points are fully maintained with associations to MTM's. Analysis Results are identical. 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 3. Load the V5 Geometry a. Double click on a given part in the CATIA tree and “Replace Component” with the .CATPart file b. Repeat for the rest of the CAD files. Note: Save Management / Propagate / Close and Re-Open may be necessary if CAD data is not displayed after replacing components. 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 4. Update Model and Link Features (Optional Step) a. Take no additional action if only using DCS coordinate points and they are still on the geometry. b. Using the Feature point function project the modeling points to the surface. c. If prompted by the “Feature Update Wizard”, use the “Set Link” function link all the 3DCS features to the V5 features. Note: This step is not required but is recommended if additional modeling is going to be preformed in 3DCS V5. 3DCS Analyst SA 3DCS V5 5. Complete! 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA Process to convert a 3DCS V5 variation model to 3DCS Analyst SA. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Export Model from 3DCS V5 Convert the V5 CAD files to HSF Import .wtx file in 3DCS SA Load .hsf files in 3DCS SA Link 3DCS Features (Optional Step) Complete! 3DCS V5 3DCS SA 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 1. Export Model from 3DCS V5 a. Open the 3DCS V5 Assembly Model in CATIA V5. b. Update Model, Nominal Build and Separate to validate model is loaded c. Export the wtx file by selecting “Export DCS File" from the 3DCS menu. 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 2. Convert the V5 CAD files to HSF Several Options are available to convert CAD files to HSF. 2.1. Convert CATParts: Use the DCS Converter to translate the .CATParts or .model files to HSF. (Requires TransMagic V5 License and DCS Converter) 2.2. Export IGES from V5: Export IGES files from V5 then use the DCS Converter to translate the IGES files to HSF. (Requires DCS IGES and DCS Converter license) 2.3. Export HSF from V5: Use Enovia to create HSF files. (Requires Enovia and V5 DM2 License) 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 2.1. Convert CATParts (Requires TransMagic V5 License and DCS Converter) a. Open DCS Converter file menu / Batch Conversion, Select the desired V5 part files to be converted. b. Select Unit conversion if req. Note V4 & V5 typically store all internal units as mm. c. Allow translation(s) to complete and Close the DCS Converter Note: If exact data is desired in the HSF file, select activate the “Embed Solid Data in Hsf” option in the Tools Menu before activating the Batch Conversion. Step a Step b 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 2.2. Export IGES from V5 (Requires DCS IGES and DCS Converter license) a. In V5 use Save As or Save Management to create IGES files for all required parts. b. Open DCS Converter file menu / Batch Conversion, Select the desired IGES files to be converted. c. Select Unit conversion if req. d. Allow translation(s) to complete and Close the DCS Converter Note: If exact data is desired in the HSF file, select activate the “Embed Solid Data in Hsf” option in the Tools Menu before activating the Batch Conversion. Step b Step c 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 2.3. Export HSF from V5 (Requires Enovia and V5 DM2 License) a. In V5 hide all the parts except for the part desired to create hsf file for. b. Make the top product active and select File / Save As / Files of Type: .hsf and save file with instance name of given part. c. Repeat process for additional components 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 3. Import .wtx file in 3DCS SA a. Launch 3DCS Analyst SA b. Select "Open W3 Data" from the file menu in 3DCS Analyst Notes: The identical 3DCS Variation Analysis model is now loaded in the stand alone. Features used in DCS Feature MTM's (Moves, Tolerances & Measures) and GD&T will be displayed as a mesh or solids based on the display mode. DCS and Feature points are fully maintained with associations to MTM's. Analysis Results are identical. The Part Mesh color in V5 will establish the entire part color in 3DCS Analyst. To change the part color, double click on the part in the Navigation Window and select a new color. 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 4. Load .hsf files in 3DCS SA a. Using Load Management in 3DCS Analyst link each part to the associated HSF file. Note: Selecting "Propagate Dir" function will link all Parts to HSF files automatically. Assuming that the names are identical. CATIA V5 generally appends a “_1” to each part instance name so the hsf files generally need to be individually linked to the part in 3DCS Analyst. b. Graphics for all components should be fully displayed. 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 5. Link 3DCS Features (Optional Step) a. Using the “Feature Update Wizard” “Set Link” function link all the 3DCS features to the HSF features. Note: This step is not required but is recommended if additional modeling is going to be preformed in 3DCS Analyst. 3DCS V5 3DCS Analyst SA 6. Complete!
