December 21, 2013 at Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.

The Pro-Chancellor Mr. Hassan Muhammad Khan, in his speech,
felicitated the new graduates particularly those awarded Zulfiqar

Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed were the guests of honor on the occasion.
Addressing the convocation President Mamnoon Hussain congratulated graduating students, their parents and the faculty of Riphah
International University for their continued efforts, devotion and
dedication. He wished passing out students success in their future
life and career. He said the Government is giving priority to promote
research culture, with focus on capacity building to produce
individuals who can effectively contribute to country’s economic,
political and social development.
The President offered his full support to Riphah International
University for its endeavour to promote quality education. He
conferred Honorary PhD degree of Riphah International University
on the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr. Ahmed Rashid
Beebeejaun.
Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr. Ahmed Rashid Beebeejaun,
in his speech, said that he was pleased to be in Pakistan among the
people with very strong cultural linkages with the people in
Mauritius. He said he was thankful to Riphah International University
for providing him this opportunity. He said Riphah International
University has shown interest to establish state of art educational
and health institutions in Mauritius and we are looking forward to
work very closely with the University.

Sciences and Media Sciences.
15 Zulfiqar Gold Medals and 16 Chancellor’s Gold Medals were
awarded to the graduates and post graduates for obtaining top
positions in the examinations and securing distinction for their best
performance in the academic field in various disciplines.
The distinguished students who obtained Zulfiqar Gold Medals are,
Kashif Chaudhary, Mamoona Sharif, Sidra Khan, Maaz Zulfiqar, Nadia
Shaukat, Nosheen Javed, Ayesha Anwar, Kiran Akhtar, Humna
Faheem, Sara Zainab Malik, Marya Aslam, Sammar Zaman, Madeha
Qamar, Adeel Shahzad and Farrukh Sultan.

3rd international conference on islamic business organized by
riphah international university calls to promote
islamic finance to meet global economic challenges
The two day International Conference on Islamic Business (ICIB
2014) concluded in Islamabad on 11th February 2014 with a call on
Islamic financial institutions to go for partnership based and equity
related investments. Conference called for promoting Islamic
finance to address the global economic issues.
Addressing the inaugural session the Deputy Governor of State
Bank of Pakistan Mr. Saeed Ahmad said Islamic banking is getting
momentum not only in Pakistan but across the world. He said the
State Bank as a regulator in banking is playing an important role in
projecting Islamic banking and finance in the country.
Organized by Riphah Center of Islamic Business, a constituent
institute of Riphah International University in collaboration with
International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) & State Bank of
Pakistan (SBP), it was attended by world renowned Islamic scholars
and economists from across the globe.
He lauded the efforts of Riphah International University for organizing series of such conferences giving an opportunity to researchers
and scholars to discuss the Islamic banking and finance in depth.
The theme of the conference was “Equity, Venture Capital, Corporate
Governance and Institutional Development for Equity Investments:
Prospects and Practices from Islamic Perspective”.
The key note speakers, paper presenters and participants of the
conference were unanimous that Islamic banking and finance have
developed tremendously over the periods of last four decades. They
were confident that the Islamic business and finance have the
potential to resolve the global economic problems for the greater
benefit to the masses.
They said Islamic finance is growing at an average speed of 20%
annually and is fast becoming a global phenomenon. It appears to
be ideal alternative to conventional Interest based finance, given its
core characteristics of Riba free risk sharing finance. Islamic financial
systems driven by the teachings of Quran and Sunnah have all the
necessary ingredients to serve better the global economic needs.
ICIB-2014 will help in creating the much needed awareness among
both academic and industry expertise.
The participants lauded the efforts of Riphah International University for organizing series of such conferences giving an opportunity
to researchers and scholars to discuss the Islamic banking and
finance in depth.
The papers presented in the conference addressed the issues on
Islamic Capital markets, Benchmarking, Equity financing, regulatory
framework and adoption of AAOIFI standards. This in written leads
to the collection and presentation of high quality research, appropriately justifying the theme of the conference asserting more focus
on risk sharing based financing for the future.
ICIB-2014 is particularly important as it plans to discuss the most
strategic instruments of investment and finance namely equity, fund
management, venture capital and institutions development and
governance in this regard.
This was the 3rd International Conference on Islamic Business
organized by Riphah International University. Earlier two
conferences were held in February 2011 and February 2012.
The Deputy Governor of State Bank of Pakistan Mr. Saeed Ahmad
was the chief guest at the inaugural session of the conference while
Prof. Datuk Syed Othman Al Habshi from Malaysia and Prof.
Khurshid Ahmad, Chairman, Institute of Policy Studies Islamabad
were the keynote speakers on the occasion.

Ahmad Yousif A. Al-Draiweesh, in his address in Arabic, expressed
the confidence that the conference will be much helpful in projecting Islamic business and finance. It will provide a platform for
dialogue and discussions between researches, policymakers, corporate leaders, business managers, practitioners of Islamic banking
and finance.
Prof. Khurshid Ahmad, in his key note address, spoke on the risk and
equity based investments and financing and explained how the
Islamic business and finance could help to resolve the global
economic problems. Prof. Datuk Syed Othman Al-Habshi, in his
speech, said Islamic banking so far is moving in right direction and
has crossed a number of milestones over the period of last four
decades.
Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor of Riphah International University Mr.
Hassan Muhammad Khan, in his remarks, said by organizing such
conferences of international level Riphah University intends to
provide a platform for discussing the vital issue of development of
the Islamic business, banking and finance so as to create awareness
about shar`iah complaint businesses.
The conference held eight working sessions on Monday and
Tuesday (10-11, 2014) to discuss various subjects relating to the
Islamic business and finance. These included equity, investments,
trust and institution building for promoting Islamic finance and
corporate governance of Islamic institutions.
The Vice Chancellor of Riphah International University Prof. Dr. Anis
Ahmad, addressing the concluding session, congratulated the
organizers and participants of the conference for making the event
very useful and successful for projecting and creating awareness
about Islamic finance and business. He said the chaos created by
conventional capitalistic system required the business and finance
leaders to think of a value and ethical based finance. Islamic finance
provides the best model of such system.
He thanked scholars and researchers for attending the conference
and sharing their views to formulate based on teachings of Quran
and Sunnah policies to address economic issues. He also thanked
international Islamic University Islamabad, Higher Education
Commission of Pakistan, International Shari`ah research academy
for Islamic finance (ISRA) International center for education in
Islamic finance (INCEIF) and State Bank of Pakistan for their collaboration and support to make the event a success.

Riphah International University organized Open House on
Friday 27, 2013 to showcase the final year projects of BS Software
Engineering.
Engineering and Basic Sciences) visited the stalls and asked
questions about the projects and acknowledged the efforts of the
students.
Thirteen (13) groups were selected to give demonstration of their
final year projects and explained how the software works. The
projects on following subjects were presented; Cryptonnect, Urdu
Word Processor, What's Near (Location Based Searching Services),
Effectively Learn Quranic Arabic (ELQA), Requirements Simulator,
Intelligent Vehicle Tracking System, Academia Recommender,
Lawyer’s Case Preparation System, Personal Medical Record Keeper,
Hotels in Cloud, Point of Sales System, IT Infrastructure Resource
Monitoring System and Word Press based Automatic Custom Post
Types.

Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences (RCRS), a constituent
institute of Riphah International university, organized an open
house at PC in Rawalpindi on 8th February 2014 to provide
information to the interested candidates for admission in various
programs of the college.
A number of candidates expressed their desire to seek admission in
the college. They were interviewed by the Director RCRS and other
faculty members and the successful candidates were given the
admissions letters.
Students in large number attended the open house along with their
parents and asked probing questions about the college and the
programs offered in rehabilitation sciences.
Director RCRS Dr. Asghar Khan gave a resume about the institute
and its programs of study. RCRS was established in 2007 under the
faculty of Health and Medical Sciences of Riphah International
University with the aim to produce graduates of Physical Therapy
and Rehabilitation professions in Pakistan according to the
international standards.

Educated and professionally groomed people are desirable by every
society to attain prosperity. After completing high school
(FSc/A-Levels) or college education, each student has to play a vital
role in nation building. Commonly observed students remain
puzzled and unfocused about which career to choose and what
options they might opt for.
Over 2000 students were exposed from leading colleges with
presentations by Mr. Aqeel Shahzad, Mr. Mansoor Hayat Butt,
Mr. Ali Hassan and Mr. Saddy. Institutes like Beacon House, Federal
Colleges, Rawal Cadet College, GSIS and Post-Graduate colleges
were exposed to changing trends of various programs and related
career path.

Riphah College of Rehabilitation Sciences, a constituent institute of
Riphah International University, is organizing its first International
Conference on Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences
(ICRS -2014) at Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore from March 14-16 to
discuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutions
adopted.
The theme of the conference is “Evidence Based Rehabilitation For
All”.
The conference is aimed at bringing together leading academic
scientists, professionals, researchers and scholars to exchange and
share their experiences and research outcomes about all aspects of
Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. It will also help to
improve the quality of life for people with impairments and
disabilities and through its actions facilitate rehabilitation input to
international health organizations.
ICRS-2014 is focused on discussing all aspects of rehabilitation
sciences by inviting experts from all over the world, major areas of
discussion would be rehabilitation medicine, physical therapy,
speech therapy, occupational therapy and orthotics & prosthetics.

Riphah College of Rehabilitation Science (RCRS) is the pioneer
institute in the Entry level Doctor of physical therapy program (DPT)
and Post Professional Doctor of Physical therapy program (PP-DPT)
in Pakistan (Equivalency of 18 years of schooling/M.Phil as per HEC

organized a one day free medical camp
Disaster Management Cell (DMC), Riphah International University
(RIU), Islamic International Medical College Trust (IIMCT) organized
a one day “Free Medical Camp” on 12th December, 2013, Thursday
at “Village Mohra Bakhtan, Tehsil Kaller Sayedan, Rwp/Isb”. The
primary aim of Free Medical Camp was to provide free medical
treatment / checkup along with free medicines to vulnerable, needy
and poor people of the rural community. DMC Team targeted the
“rural areas” of Islamabad and Rawalpindi particularly “Sihala and its
surrounding area”, where the people deprived of basic health care
facilities, lack of awareness, lack of education and basic necessities
of social life.
The Medical, Dental and Physiotherapy expertise and services were
provided to the patients (male, female and children). An average of
530 (Approximately) patients were critically examined by the
Doctors.

Riphah Institute of Public Policy, a constituent institute of Riphah
International University, arranged a briefing on “Renewable Energy
Resources” for Dr. Rashid Beebeejaun, Deputy Prime Minister &
Minister for Energy, Government of Mauritius on 24th December,
2013 at Serena Hotel Islamabad.
Deputy prime Minister was briefed by Pakistan Council for
Renewable Energy, Ministry of Science & Technology, National
Energy Conservation Centre, Ministry of Water & Power and
Alternative Energy Development Board Govt of Pakistan.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius appreciated the efforts of
Pakistan and stressed that mutual cooperation may be carried out
among the two countries in the area of renewable energy through
some programs and projects.

Renewable energy resources are very important in Pakistan’s
perspective as there is an acute shortage of fossil fuels. Considering
the potential of renewable energy in the country, the Government of
Pakistan has taken number of steps to explore and promote
renewable energies and energy efficiency strategies. This will
facilitate for a tangible contribution of renewable energy in energy
mix which at the moment relies on gas and oil and the country has
to pay huge amount of money as import bill.
Mauritius produces about 22% of its electricity from renewable
resources consists; Solar Energy, Wind Energy, Solid Waste
Management Energy, Geothermal etc. The country is one of the
leading players in the World in utilizing the renewable energy
resources.

6 meeting to strengthen industry-academia linkage

Riphah International University under the auspices of the Riphah
Advisory Council for Excellence (RACE) held its 6th meeting on
Saturday 18, 2014 inviting industry leaders to develop strong ties
with the industry. The meeting was held at the university main
campus I-14 Islamabad.
The participants floated numerous ideas to develop, strengthen
alliances and to ensure better students` placement in the leading
organizations. The valuables insights to better prepare the
graduates for industry were shared.
The meeting was attended by some prominent entrepreneurs and
managers from the public and private sector organizations, financial
and informations security sectors as well as the students, faculty and
members from University management.
Mr. Khurram Khan welcomed the participants presented progress
report of the university. The senior students presented progress of
university`s industrial liaison activities.
The guests appreciated the university for establishing such a forum
to discuss industry needs and to bridge the gap between industry
and academia. They acknowledged the university initiative to
explore the industry dynamics and improve the curriculum.

enhancing the skills, capabilities and knowledge of employees for
doing a particular job. Continuous Training & development
transforms personalities and leads to quality performance of

By the Grace of Almighty Allah (SWT) first quarter of Riphah
Employee Development Program (REDP) has successfully been
completed during which 20 training workshops were organized.

a comprehensive framework to address the
challenge of climate change in pakistan
Riphah Institute of Public Policy (RIPP), a constiutent institute of
Riphah International University is going to develop a comprehensive
framework in collaboration with the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS)
to address the challenge being faced by the country in respect of
mammoth losses due to environmental degradation and its better
management.
In this regards 4-5 in-depth round-table sessions are being held
during 2014.
The first round-table of the targeted series, titled as “Pakistan and
Climate Change: Challenge and Response“ was held on January 15,
at RIPP premises.

Riphah International University plans to set up its Campus in Mauritius.
The Pro-Chancellor of Riphah International University Mr. Hassan Muhammad
Khan discussed the plan of setting up of University Campus in Mauritius with
the Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Rashid Beebeejaun and also had working
sessions with Tertiary Minister Rajesh Jeetah, Housing and Lands Minister Abu
Kasenally and officials of the Tertiary Education Commission.

It may be mentioned here that the Deputy Prime Minister, Mauritius,
Dr. Rashid Beebeejaun visited Pakistan in December, 2013 to attend the
convocation of Riphah International University. He held discussions with
Pakistani dignitaries and businessmen to invest in Mauritius. He particularly
showed interest in setting up of campus of Riphah University in Mauritius that
would target students of the region.
Riphah Institute of Public Policy
Riphah International University, Chartered by Federal Government of Pakistan,
already has a collaborative partnership with Doha Academy. Mr. Hassan
Muhammad Khan wanted to take advantage of the facilities offered by the
government under its ‘Knowledge Hub’ policies.
Riphah Faculty of Management Sciences
Riphah International University organized an International Conference on
Medical Education (ICME-2013) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education
Mauritius at Intern-Continental Resort, Balaclava in Mauritius in October 2013.
It was aimed at bridging the gap between the developed and the
under-resourced nations for promoting quality professional education.
ICME a regular event organized by Riphah Academy of Research and
Education (RARE) is an enduring and credible platform for health
professionals across the globe. It provides experience, modernizes knowledge
and publicizes latest advances as discovered from subject experts and helps
bridge the gap between the developed and the developing nations. The
Mauritius Government highly appreciated Riphah University for holding such
a big event in that country.
