Following this short-lived success, he gradually became more interested in recording engineering and after attending production and engineering courses at a local city college, he built his first home studio. Initially this studio was to accommodate his own songwriting and collaborations, but his ambitions for a bigger and better sound led to a series of equipment upgrades and expansions of the studio into a for-hire small facility. As he outgrew these humble origins, he spotted a commercial studio for sale in Hollywood and became owner of the Music Box Recording Studio in 1992.
