Membership News
S
eason's Greetings! The holidays are here and the clubhouse is looking very festive,
thanks to a group of women members who added their decorating flair. We are
always pleased to see our northern members returning this time of year, as well as all
the new members that have recently joined. It is the time for good cheer and spirited
camaraderie, so engage your fellow members and celebrate the season at your Club.
Just a reminder that there is still time to introduce a prospective member to Sara
Bay and take advantage of our “Share The Experience” promotion, which expires December 31st. Additionally, we
offer an attractive variety of membership options that I would be pleased to explain in detail, including our Trial
Membership program. The Admissions Committee continually explores new avenues to promote the awareness of
Sara Bay and always welcomes suggestions from the members. A sincere “thank you” to all the members that have
referred prospects to the Club, because you have always been our best recruiters. Also, we are hoping to see many
of you at the 90th Anniversary Gala on January 22nd, 2016. The dinner and entertainment will be spectacular, but
seating is limited so please call the office to reserve your table.
As always, your staff will strive to exceed the expectations of our members, since our mission is to be recognized
as one of the finest Donald Ross golf clubs in North America.
Best Wishes for a Happy & Healthy Holiday Season,
Dennis Budny, Sr.
Director of Membership & Marketing

It’s that time of year
again when I become
Santa’s helper. Our golf shop
is well stocked with many
new items.
“New”… his and hers
Unisex BIION golf shoes. Also, Footjoy has reintroduced
Velcro shoe closures to help with those arthritic fingers;
and they have created a new StaCool glove which will
help against your hands slipping on your grip.
ADIDAS has introduced revolutionary new midsole

foam for their shoes, which will put a rebound in your
step. It’s more durable, it’s light, and offers extreme comfort. Great for golfers who like to walk.
New fabrics used for Men’s and Ladies’ clothing make the garments so much lighter and have all been treated for
sun protection.
We have arranged for club demo, ball fitting and shoe fitting days throughout the season. Details will be posted
on the respective bulletin boards.
By the time you receive this newsletter there will only be five days before Chanukah begins and 24 days to
Christmas.

T
wo-thousand-fifteen has been another busy and eventful season coming to a
close. Along with all of the club tournaments, we hosted three big “outside”
tournaments: the LPGA Symetra Guardian Retirement Championship, the Women’s
Southern Amateur and the FSGA Mid-Amateur. All these events demonstrated how
beautiful and challenging Sara Bay Country Club can be.
Many maintenance projects had to be performed to ensure quality course conditions.
The rebuilding of four tees not only improves playability, it also allows more surface area for less wear and tear. In
addition, 1,020 tons of sand were applied to all the fairways and approaches as part of the “Sand Capping” project.
This project may or may not improve ball roll, but agronomically it is beneficial to promote new growth, break down
thatch and make the fairways smoother for a more uniform mower cut.
The Maintenance Staff and I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.
Thanks for your support,
Bob Gwodz, Golf Course Superintendent
Women’s Golf Association
A
lthough we experienced exceptionally hot weather for our opening month, we have had a good turnout for
each event. On 10/15 we played a flighted "bubble" tournament. Everyone got to subtract a point from her
score each time her ball landed in the fairway on a drive. The winners were:
1st flight
2nd flight
3rd flight
1st place Nicole Polivchak
1st place Kathleen Curran
1st place Sharon Hite
2nd place Susan Fradkin
2nd place Pat Kelly
2nd place Phyllis Turner
On 10/22 we noticed that the greens were displaying their winter quickness for the first time. We also welcomed
back more snowbirds who have been slowly drifting in. Each player got to select her best score from either the odd
numbered holes or the even numbered. Winners were:
ODDS
EVENS
1st place Colleen Rice
1st place Kathleen Curran
2nd place Fiona Lohrisch
2nd place Pam Macdonald
3rd place Susan Fradkin
3rd place Debby Spicuzza
We showed up decked out in orange and black for our final event in October. The Halloween Scramble was followed
by a luncheon and meeting in the Palm Room. Winners of this year's event were:
1st place team
2nd place team
3rd place team
4th place team
Nicole Polvichak
Sherry Hurley
Colleen Rice
Gretchen Rimmer
Kathleen Curran
Pat Kelly
Elaine Henderson
Liz Frank
Phyllis Turner
Susan Neumer
Sherril Morse
Christie Wells
The winner of our Spooky Contest, closest to the pin on holes # 4 & 16, was Nicole Polivchak, who was inside 5
feet on both holes. The Christmas scramble and special luncheon on December 17 will be our last outing for 2015.
Don't miss this really fun event. In January our regular weekly WGA play will resume. The entire schedule is in the
WGA handbook which is available in the Pro Shop.
Wishing everybody a very happy holiday season

FALL MEMBER-GUEST
orty-two teams comprised of Owner, Associate, Young Executive and Summer
Members interacted and competed in the Two-Day Better Ball of Partners
“Ringer Tournament”. The Ringer event allows each team on Day 2 to improve their
Better Ball score on each hole to produce an optimal eighteen-hole final score.
Michael Post and his guest Rick Wernz captured the 2nd Annual Fall Member-Guest Overall Championship in
a thrilling sudden-death playoff over Colleen Rice and her guest Courtney Burrell on the second hole. Both teams
finished with an impressive Better Ball score of 57 (-15) to tie for the Overall Championship. The Post-Wernz team
lead the field after the Day 1 with an opening round score of 62 (-10) enroute to winning Flight 2 over Matt Jozwiak
and partner Mike Amerine’s score of 60 (-12). Jozwiak and Amerine opened with 69 (-3) and improved nine strokes
to claim the runner-up spot. Colleen Rice and Courtney Burrell opened the tournament with a score of 65 (-7) and
improved eight strokes during the final round to capture Flight 4 over Julie Tanner and Heather Gillon 63 (-9). The
Tanner-Gillon team improved ten strokes after opening with a one over par 73. The teams of Chris Tanner and
partner Geoff Gillon and Gene Ciemny and partner Brian Houston tied in Flight 1 with identical scores of 60 (-12).
The Tanner-Gillon team prevailed in the tiebreaker to win the Flight after making a six stroke improvement in the
final round. Ciemny and Houston improved ten strokes after their opening round 70 (-2) to force the tiebreaker.
Flight 3 was decided by a scorecard tiebreaker as well, where the father-son team of Kerry and Kent Kirschner
defeated the brother team of Dick and Kevin Busby 59 (-13). The Kirschners shot a wonderful opening round 63
(-9) and the Busbys opened with a fine 6 (-7) score as both teams finished two shots back of the Overall Champions.
We thank you for your support and participation in the Fall Member-Guest. Congratulations to all of our winners!
