Yamaha Road Bikes
Winning technology, by Jorge
Another year, another Moto GP triple crown. Spanish flier Jorge Lorenzo led the boys home on his YZR-M1 and the Fiat Yamaha Team once again scooped the holy grail of rider, team and
manufacturer titles… for a third year on the trot. For Yamaha winning is the catalyst that spurs on our technical gurus at the Iwata dream factory. Because all the information that race teams generate
is painstakingly fed back to the factory where it filters down to Yamahas on the showroom floor. New technologies that are refined on the cutting edge such as variable power maps, traction control
and chip controlled throttle have applications that are far wider than the rarefied atmosphere of Moto GP. Take our new Super Ténéré adventure tourer for example, which features a host of safety
features that have been developed at the race track. Because what helps keeps Jorge at the front of the pack can also help when you apply the throttle on a dirt road. So if you ever wondered why
your superbike or super scooter goes, handles and stops so well – not to mention its reliability and build quality - it’s because what we learn at the race track makes a major contribution to the
development of all our products. This year, Yamaha has refined existing models and introduces some entirely new road bikes such as the YZF-R15 sportster and the YW125 BeeWee and XC125 Vity
scooters that are designed to offer the best introduction to the world of two wheels. Just remember that whatever Yamaha you choose, race winning DNA comes standard.

YZF-R1 Key Features
1 The YZF-R1 engine is a breakthrough
design that represents a paradigm shift in both
technology and performance.
2 Crossplane technology, first pioneered
in Moto GP racing with the M1, puts each
connecting rod 90° from the next to all but
eliminate undesirable inertial crankshaft torque.
This allows the engine’s combustion torque to
build for unmatched linear power delivery. It’s
like having two engines in one: the low-rpm
torquey feel of a V4 with the raw, high-rpm
power of an inline 4.
R1 bristles with control technologies. YCC-T
(Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle). This Moto
GP inspired fly-by-wire technology delivers
instant throttle response, while YCC-I (Yamaha
Chip Controlled Intake) broadens the spread
of power. The fuel injection system provides
optimum air/fuel mixtures for maximum power
and smooth throttle response.
3
4 Handlebar-mounted Yamaha D-MODE
variable throttle control provides three maps
to control how YCC-T interprets throttle input
from the rider, so you can adjust your throttle
response to the conditions.
5 In keeping with this machine’s exceptional
cornering ability and crisp handling, the
aluminium frame has been designed to the
perfect balance of rigidity and flex. A lightweight
CF die-cast magnesium rear frame further
contributes to mass centralisation.
YZF-R1 in Team Yamaha Blue/White
6 Factory racers get machines tailored to
their preferences. Welcome to the club. R1 has
adjustable footrests, with a 15mm height and
3mm front-to-rear adjustment.
The suspension includes a SOQI fork which
uses the same independent damping developed
for our championship winning Moto GP bikes:
Left leg compression damping - right leg
rebound damping.
Wind cheating bodywork does more than
turn heads. The smooth, sleek side fairing
features a two projector-type bulb headlight
design, with unique rounded lenses that
position the ram air ducts closer in for a more
compact and purposeful nose.
The exhaust system is meticulously
designed to enhance engine output while,
thanks to its threeway catalyst technology, also
reducing exhaust emissions.

The YZF-R1’s silencer is a single expansion
type, and, the sound track coming through from
the unique crossplane-crankshaft-equipped
engine is unlike any other in-line four cylinder
production motorcycle.
The rear frame is made from lightweight CF
die-cast magnesium, contributing to the model’s
optimum mass centralisation.
Long valued equipment on the track, an
electronically actuated steering damper is
standard equipment on the 2011 R1.

Instrumentation includes everything a rider
wants to know, including gear position.
The aluminium swingarm and piggyback rear
shock absorber combine to reduce unsprung
weight.
Dramatic projector-style headlamps look
great and offer excellent night time vision.
Fracture split connecting rods provide
unparalleled fit – in Supersport, precision
equals performance.
Forced-air intake system utilises natural

Yamaha’s YZF-R6 continues to dominate racetracks around the globe,
and the 2011 is destined to continue that trend. Just ask local hero Kevin
Curtain, who has helped develop this iconic supersports machine.
Despite being given the hurry up by young team mate Rick Olson, Curtain
continues to raise his game on the most advanced production 600cc
motorcycle Yamaha has ever built.
Maybe it’s because of the fly-by-wire throttle system, or the same Yamaha
Chip Controlled Intake as on the R1 that varies intake tract length for a
broader powerband?
Or maybe it’s the back torque-limiting slipper clutch that enhances
braking and downshifting from high speed and complements the mass
centralised chassis and geometry for superlative trackday manners?
Whatever it is, Curtain is still on top of his game. And you could be on top
of yours with the help of this awesome device.

YZF-R15 Key Features
YZF-R125 Key Features
1 DiASil cylinder is constructed using aluminium
alloy with 20 per cent silicon content to create a very
hard, reliable cylinder surface, making conventional
iron sleeves obsolete. As a result, the entire cylinder
is aluminium and delivers better heat dissipation and
less weight.
5 Just like its larger R-series brothers, the new R125
features a lightweight Deltabox frame which delivers
an optimum balance of strength and rigidity for classleading handling performance.
2 The optimisation of the steel Deltabox frame and
rear swingarm rigidity, combined with the effects of
the linked type monocross suspension, achieve agile
handling, great comfort and turnability.
The compact, lightweight aluminium radiator
maximises airflow for heat dissipation. This has
enabled the creation of a lightweight, compact body
while retaining stable performance.
3
Lighter and thinner aluminium forged piston is
the same type of piston used in Yamaha supersport
bikes. Reciprocating mass is approximately 20% less
than an engine of the same displacement fitted with
a conventional cast aluminium piston, which gives a
great feeling when the throttle is twisted.
4
The powerplant utilises hemispherical four-valve
combustion chambers allowing the intake and exhaust
valves to be laid out in the smallest size possible.
The large 3-litre air cleaner provides the clean
air mix. The duct area of the intake is designed to
optimise the flow of intake air.

6 The cast aluminium swing arm keeps unsprung
weight low, this high quality component allows the
link-type rear suspension system to operate more
efficiently and deliver more responsive handling
qualities.
7 The large diameter 292mm front disc is clamped
by a compact twinpot caliper which delivers
strong, progressive braking performance for good
controllability over a wide range of speeds.

8 Dual headlights have a distinctive R-series look,
while the low frontal area and small tail are clearly
influenced by the bigger R-series bikes. The full
sized bodywork makes this new sportsbike the most
impressive looking machines in the class.
With large-diameter 33mm tubes, the smoothaction front forks are designed to deliver accurate
steering and good rider comfort.
4

8
Full-sized chassis is unique in its segment. The
wheelbase is 1355mm, over 58mm greater than a
typical sports 125, which helps to enhance stability.
The twin spar Deltabox design has proved to be
one of the lightest and best-handling frame designs
in the supersport category, and its use on the new
YZF-R125 underlines Yamaha’s total commitment to
building the best-handling machine in the class.

MT-01
March to a different beat.
At Yamaha, creating unique, awe-inspiring machines is our
speciality. The MT-01 is a classic example. Not built in the
pursuit of rpm, kph or bhp - just arm-stretching low-down
torque that handles superbly, MT-01’s mature performance
is the next step in sport motorcycle development.
One element dominates the MT-01, the beat of that pulsing
V-twin engine... the Kodo.
Like the beat of a Japanese big drum, Kodo is a therapeutic
pulse, an immutable and irresistible force that propels you,
whether through life or up a twisty mountain road.
What’s more, with taut chassis and superbike brakes, you’ll
experience a sublime handling and cornering performance
you’d have never thought possible, one that will have you
lusting for the next corner.
US model shown, local variant may differ.
MT-01 is a 100% immersive release that stimulates every
sense in the pursuit of ultimate satisfaction.
supersport : sport : sport touring : torque sport : commuter : scooter
MT-01 in Midnight Black
This is one motorcycle that talks the torque. A combination of
low revs and high end stimulation from the mighty, sculptured
engine hammer out eyeball-flattening acceleration at a flick
of the wrist, regardless of speed or gear.
Marching to the Kodo beat is good for the soul.
MT-01 Key Features
1 Key to the MT-01’s stunning visual signature is
its maximum-engine, minimum-body design. Like a
running suit on an Olympic sprinter, the chassis and
bodywork hug the engine so tightly they are almost
invisible. Like you’re strapped across the back of an
engine – and nothing more.
The CF (Controlled Fill) die-cast aluminium frame is
made up of just two cast parts (left and right), bolted
together at the head pipe assembly and at the swing
arm pivot. Bolted to the main frame is a two-part cast
and moulded aluminium down tube and the whole
main frame structure is totally weld-free.
2 Styled as a part of the engine, the oil tank is
exposed to the cool airstream to keep oil temperatures
lower when riding.
The muscular V-Twin engine is bolted to the frame
using an eight point rigid-mount system, making it
a fully-stressed member. The pushrod configuration
enables the torque character of a long stroke engine,
without the height.
3 Minimalist controlled fill aluminium die-casting
technology provides the structure for an extremely
strong yet lightweight chassis with ideal rigidity
balance characteristics. And together with superbikespec suspension and brakes, it provides a sensually
accelerating experience.
If the standard MT-01 isn’t enough to get you
torquing in tongues, there’s also the Stage One, Stage
Two and Stage Three performance kits – good for up
to 25% more of that MT-01 grunt.
4
From the unique headlight design and 3D
instrumentation to the gracefully tapered titanium
mufflers that draw the eye to the artfully crafted LED
taillight, the MT01 is a visual feast.
5
The muscular V-Twin engine has a powerful
presence impossible to ignore. No balancer is used in
this purposeful power unit — a feature which improves
output while enhancing the engine’s soul-stirring pulse.

The 1670 cc V-twin’s maximum torque is a
whopping 150.1Nm produced at just 3750rpm.

MT-01’s whole swingarm/suspension combination
is based on the latest supersports technology, with an
upside-down front fork, fully adjustable suspension, six
pot radial brake callipers, and an R1-type swingarm.
Fuel injection system is equipped with a 12-hole
system (instead of the common 4 holes) for a very
fine fuel spray and optimised combustion.
Yamaha’s patented EXUP system further increases
torque by operating a valve in the exhaust collector to
increase diameter in line with engine rpm.

MT-01’s entire exhaust and EXUP system is made
out of titanium to keep the weight as low as possible.
Active rider position sees a tapered handlebar,
rigid-mounted to provide the most direct feedback

Ask any serious distance riders and they’ll tell you that FJR offers one
of the quickest and easiest ways of getting from A to B without the use
of an aeroplane. And you won’t have to queue or suffer any frustrating
delays either.
FJR1300 – don’t accept cattle class.

TDM900. Much like a non-identical twin, the TDM900 is unique. And
for many owners, that’s a great asset. Because, when you’ve found a
motorcycle with this much individual character and all-road, everyday
performance, you don’t want to be bumping into them everywhere.
TDM engenders a high level of owner satisfaction and model loyalty,
a fact that may have something to do with the 900cc parallel twin’s
suitability for real world, down under roads. Many owners consider it to
be every motorcycle you’ll ever need wrapped up in one.
Aggressive mountain road scratcher, long-legged two-up tourer or
powerful city commuter, it’s up to you… and your non-identical twin.
FJR1300A Key Features
TDM900 Key Features
1 Standard hard sidecases perfectly complement the
FJR’s look of class and performance, and are attached
via subframe-fitted quick-release mounts, conveniently
accessible with the ignition key.
5 Fuel injected DOHC parallel-twin engine features
a proven 5-valve head atop plated alloy cylinders,
producing a broad powerspread with bottom-end
grunt, a stomping mid-range and punchy top-end.
2 The compact, lightweight, DOHC, 16-valve, liquidcooled inline four-cylinder engine delivers power and
torque for an unequalled spread of muscle over a
wide rpm range. The engine is a fully stressed chassis
member, allowing for a lightweight frame design.
6 High-spec long-travel suspension and an almost
50% front end weight distribution combine for sharp,
bump-eating steering and handling.
Adjustable ergonomics: the seat can be adjusted
by nearly an inch, and handlebar pullback angle is
three-position adjustable over a half-inch range. Big
windscreen adjusts over a wide range for improved
wind protection with little negative pressure.
The lightweight all-alloy chassis uses high-spec
suspension and brake components, for sporty
handling characteristics that will surprise you.
4 Sharp-looking bodywork and air-management
system keep the bike and rider cooler; a central vent
beneath the instrument panel cools the rider and
reduces negative pressure, and fairing side panels with
30mm adjustability let the rider direct airflow.
TDM’s meaty power spread is easy to monitor with
a large, easy-to-read tacho that marks its impressive
progress from 2000 to 10,000rpm.
3
Unified Braking System w/ABS: The front brake
lever activates six of the eight front braking pistons;
the rear brake pedal activates two rear pistons and the
other two front pistons - for balanced anti-lock braking.
The FJR’s long swingarm design provides excellent
handling characteristics, while the rear spring preload
adjustment is a snap.
Curved radiator with custom ducting and twin-ring
cooling fans keep engine and cockpit cool.

Scorpio Z
Win the rat race.
There’s nothing like the feel of a new bike. The smell, the tight feel, the warranty… so why buy
used when you can get yourself on a shiny new Yamaha for minimal outlay?
Scorpio is proof that you can buy a crisp new scoot that will get you to work with a few grins
along the way, for the same money as buying used.
The secret is simplicity. At its heart, Scorpio has a strong, reliable four-stroke SOHC engine
that – being a Yamaha – you know is going to last. It’s bolted into a package with all the bare
essentials, like a neutral-handling chassis, comfortable suspension and a disc front brake. A
highly manoeuvrable commuting package that’s surprisingly good fun, and super economical
that’s Scorpio.
Just like the models at the upper end of the high-performance scale, learner motorcycles
need plenty of style and substance. Combining genuine sporting ability and real world
usability the Yamaha Scorpio not only has the user friendliness and practicality to bring new
riders to Yamaha, it also has enough “go/turn/stop” to entertain more experienced riders.
And if features, style, and substance aren’t enough to float your boat there’s one more thing
you should do - check out the retail price!

NXC125 Cygnus Key Features
1 BeeWee comes with some unique styling. Its shape
marks it as something different from the herd, as do
its sporty graphics and exposed frame.
4 Comfortably and enjoyably motivating a rider and
passenger from place to place isn’t rocket science, but
after you’ve tried one, you’ll realise Cygnus is definitely
something of a star.
2 One of the BeeWee 125’s most distinctive and
noticeable features is its lighting system. In keeping
with the urban design elements seen across the
scooter, the dual headlight is strong and bold, giving
the front a particularly dynamic appearance. The same
goes for the distinctive dual tail lights.
3 Fat 12 inch, all-terrain style tyres and off-road style
dual rear shock absorbers ensures a steady, comfy
ride wherever you go.
The 125cc fuel-injected engine has the kind of
power you need to ride two-up, but also the kick and
the off-the-line acceleration that’s so important on a
stop-start city commute. With fuel injection, it’s super
efficient and kind to your pocket, too.
Light enough for easy handling, BeeWee has a
tough, heavy-duty exposed frame, and a sleek, strong
design. An extra wide handlebar helps to give you
maximum control and flexibility.
There’s enough underseat storage to carry a
full-face helmet. The two-up seat means that your
passenger can enjoy the ride as much as you do.
Other unique details include the artfully designed
instrument panel.

1 The powerful 153mm diameter front disc brake
works in tandem with the rear drum brake. Designed
to deliver the smooth, predictable stopping power
necessary for a scooter with a 125cc 4-stroke engine.
5 Easy to use point-and-twist interface and a
confidence inspiring feel means if you can ride a
bicycle, you can probably master a Jog.
The lightweight and compact wheels are equipped
with 100/90-10 tyres at the front and rear. Combined
with a short wheelbase, they make for quick steering,
low rider inputs and easy low speed manoeuvrability.
2
3 The comfortable dual seat is easily unlocked and
lifted to reveal a spacious storage compartment. It’s
the ideal place to store your helmet or other personal
belongings. The Vity also has additional carrying
capacity, with an easily-accessible storage compartment
in the steering column and handy luggage rack.
The Vity’s clearly laid-out instrument panel features
an analogue speedometer, a convenient fuel gauge, and
a wide array of indicator lights. All vital information is
ready to read and in an easy-to-understand layout.

a low and extremely comfortable riding position. It also
helps to keep the scooter’s centre of gravity low – for
great manoeuvrability – and lets you easily put your feet
on the ground.
The Vity is ideally suited to life on congested
urban streets: with a wet weight of only 110 kg, and
a wheelbase of just 1250 mm, Vity is easy to boss
around. In combination with a powerful and reliable
fuel-injected 125cc engine, you can navigate traffic and
overtake with confidence.

change in your pocket (not literally), and will keep
you, err… running for a surprising amount of trips.
A powerful disc brake means no shortage of
stopping power, and compliments the nimble
low speed handling that makes parking and
manoeuvring at the lights a no brainer.
5
Jog’s simple and economical two-stroke engine
has a very limited appetite for fossil fuels. And that
responsive 49cc provides the punch to get the

For memories that last a lifetime... Every Yamaha product is developed with the use of the latest
technology and a passion to exceed expectations. They offer a superb interaction between you and your
environment – an experience never to be forgotten.
Always remember to review your Yamaha Motorcycle Owner’s Manual before you ride. Before each ride, take time to check all your equipment. Always wear an approved helmet, eye protection, long-sleeved shirt, long trousers, gloves and boots. And always be sure your bike is in
first-class condition before riding. Keep it well-maintained and always outfitted in accordance with state and local laws. Every motorcycle rider should be aware of the limits of his or her skills, experience and abilities and ride accordingly. Beginners should be extremely cautious
and allow extra time and distance for manoeuvring and braking. All riders should ride well within the limits of their abilities, never beyond them. Always ride in a responsible manner, respecting the environment as well as all state and local laws. Ride responsibly, and remember,
motorcycle riders, as all motorists, must practice defensive driving. Do not drink and ride. It is illegal and dangerous. Yamaha encourages you to ride safely and respect the environment. Specifications are subject to change without notice, in accordance with national regulations and
legislations. Copyright is YMZ. Yamaha reserves the right to change specifications without notice. Confirm with your dealer before purchase. Specifications and measurements are approximate and subject to variances.
