How to get out of the Friend Zone

My friend and I have been arguing the point that
the “Friend Zone” is entirely a self-made situation. If it’s a
problem, it’s because you’ve made it a problem. However, if
you feel like the Friend Zone’s a prison, there is an escape
plan.
Luckily, this won’t go as far as tattooing a map to your back
like that guy in Prison Break, or putting a poster on the wall
and crawling through “500 yards of shit-smelling filth I
can’t even imagine” like Mr. Andy Dufresne in Shawshank
Redemption. All this takes is a little bit of preparation, and
the most important requirement, genuine desire.
See, I have actually made it out of a few friend zones, and
in each case, this was because I knew that it was the right
thing to do. This wasn’t the normal thoughts that many
Friendzonians have when hanging out alone with their surrogate women who are feeling vulnerable after watching
Sleepless in Seattle and going through 2 boxes of Kleenex. In
moments of weakness like this, many men succumb to the
moment and go in for kill, or more specifically, in for the
lovin’. However, as with any escape plan, this can’t be
done impulsively. If you try this, you’re probably going to
be shot by one of the guards once you get out the front gate
(translation: denied horribly). This is even if you make it
that far. Fact is, it’s going to make things weird, and probably nothing will come of it. If you want something more out
of this than a piece, you need planning.
Recognition – You start realizing that your feelings for this
chick truly are changing. No, this isn’t the initial stage,
where you’re confused and think that she’s giving you
mixed signals nonstop. And this isn’t that feeling in your
pants you get like when you used to climb the rope in gym
class. This is when you’ve been hanging out with her alone
for months. You start feeling differently around her, and
notice that you’re making more effort. You start looking forward to seeing her more. Don’t even entertain the thought
of telling the girl about your feelings unless you’re absolutely sure. A big mistake that guys make is in thinking that all
women with whom they fall into the Friend Zone are the
right women for them. This simply isn’t true. You might be
overlooking ways in which you aren’t compatible or little
things that really do annoy you about her. In some cases,
you truly are meant to be friends. And yes, guys and girls
can be friends. It’s just only in situations where the attraction has been thrown out the window either due to physical

or emotional incompatibility (read: one of
them finds the other ugly or crazy),
or also in some cases where the
friendship itself prevents any
attraction from happening.
Motivation – If you have
the proper recognition,
then the motivation is
usually
automatically
there. You know that you
want to say something,
and you know that she
needs to hear what you have
to say, because you know that
she thinks the same thing. You
have to be so sure that you’re willing to tell her, have her disgusted,
slap you, start crying, look to you for
a shoulder to cry on, scream in horror,
slap you again, and never want to see
you again. Because, guys, this is probably
exactly what will happen to you. We’re talking an
emotional explosion worse than Sean Penn
when he’s screaming, “Is that my daughter??!!?” in Mystic River. The Friend Zone is a
very important thing to women, and it’s built
on trust. Namely, the trust is that you don’t
want to take advantage of her in any way. And
there’s a 99.4% change that she’ll think you’re trying to take advantage of her. You will have to convince her you’re right. Keep in mind, too,
that between Mr. Bradbury and
myself, we’ve probably been in 280
Friend Zones between us, and
maybe 6 of those were the right situations to try to take “the next
step”. And not all of them
worked. And yes, I feel like
I’m in 6th grade right now
even writing this. I heard
that Teen People is hiring.
Confrontation – If you’ve
made it this far in the article, this means that you’re
either really bored, or you
still think this applies to you.
If the second is the case, then
this means you think you’re
ready to say something. The key is
not to wait. You know those TV shows
that are predicated on the two main characters
getting together (e.g. X-Files, JAG, Nash Bridges),
because you just know they belong together?
Well, what happens when they finally get
together? The show sucks. Completely.
I’m talking trainwreck bad. The
entire dynamic of the show is
changed, and the show has about
as much interest as a Dr. Phil
monologue about ultimate fighting. Now, think of a show where
the guy and girl get together
early in the show. You know
what? You get used to the two of
them, and the way they interact
seems somehow normal. You know
why? Because this is the way it
was supposed to be. The simple fact
is, if something takes too long to develop, it doesn’t feel natural anymore. This
is why the second the guy is “sure” that
his feelings have changed he needs to say
something. Yep, it’s going to be weird, and
it’s going to absolutely look like some scene from
Swans Crossing or Dawson’s Creek, but that’s how it is.
Let’s face it; the people that watch those types of
shows are the exact types that get in these situations.
Of course, except me. It takes some balls and the moxie
to put all the cards on the table. It has to be genuine.
And it takes patience. The woman’s probably going to
be freaked out, and she won’t know what to say right
away. And that’s fine. Then, she’ll either realize that
you’re right, or think you’re a psycho and put out a
restraining order. The secret is that you have
to be fine with the outcome, whatever it
is. You have to be to the point where you
want to date this woman and that’s it.
All or nothing... If she says no, move on.
If she says yes, well then, good for you.
Don’t wait around though, and
under no circumstances try to
remain friends with her after you
pulled this card. After time, sure,
things can go back to normal, but
going back immediately is the
equivalent of hitting yourself
repeatedly in the nuts with a
porcupine. It doesn’t make sense,
it looks stupid, and you’re going
to hate yourself for it.
That’s really it. It’s about being genuine, being sure, and being decisive.
Like we said, Friend Zones are like starter
relationships, but sometimes they’re the real
thing. Just realize that if you think it is, you’d better
do something about it.

the military and St. Jude's Ranch for Children. A published

I normally keep my accomplishments private for sake of humility but after a conversation a little while back I realized many people
underestimate me. I'm not trying to prove myself but just want people
to be conscious of the mistakes of assumptions and prejudgments. I
suppose in the end a rival's underestimation of me will allow me to
walk up and win the deal in the end.
My goal is to mirror a Leonardo Da Vinci. Many people know him
as an artist but never knew him as a renaissance man. He was multi
talented: artist, singer, inventor, extremely handsome/ladies' man. I
model to pay the bills but my true passion is real estate. I am slowly
building my company but one day will turn my small business into
a successful corporation. I admire Trump for his business savvy not
only in real estate but other outlets as well.
I have other business ventures that I plan on exploring. School/
education has always been important to me and I pursue that for the
knowledge. Speaking fluent Mandarin has always been a goal. International real estate is only a few years away for me once I master the
most spoken language in the world. I have many more goals but do
not want to drag on so I will leave it at this.

The Intimidation Factor - The “Eyes” Have it!

I have a question for you? What do Ken Griffey Jr,
some of the Texas Longhorn football team members, the USA
soccer team, and professional female golfer Michelle Wie all
have in common? All of these athletes wear NIKE
MAXSIGHT contact lenses while participating in their sport.
So what, you might be thinking, they all wear contact lenses.
But these contact lenses, my friend, help them play their
game better! And so can you. Not only will you play better,
but they look pretty cool when you wear them as well!
In May of 2005, the Federal Drug Administration
helped pave the way for Nike Inc and Bausch and Lomb to
put these truly original contact lenses on the market. These
lenses will cost you a bit more than your average daily contact lenses. The cost varies by retailer and should be replaced
every month. These are prescription contact lenses so you
must see your eye doctor first. You can acquire them however, even if you have no vision problems whatsoever. NIKE
MAXSIGHT lenses are for sport activities only; they are not
designed for every daywear such as going to class or a keg
party. These special lenses come in two colors, grey-green
and amber. The color you choose to wear depends on which
sport you participate in.
The grey-green contact lenses are ideal for athletes
that participate in football, golf, or any sport taking place in
bright sunlight. They enhance your eyes to see detail and
outline. Basically these lenses help to block the sunlight
glare. The amber lenses meanwhile, are designed for inconsistent light or cloudy conditions. Athletes who compete in
baseball, soccer, tennis or softball are great candidates for
these. The contact lenses help make the ball seem to “pop”
out if you will.

Once you put these babies in your eyes not only do
you have a chance to better your athletic ability, but your
eyes will change color as well. I personally think the amber
lenses give a more “intimidating” look. Your cornea will be
surrounded by a vivid reddish tint that will make any opponent wonder what you are really thinking and whether
you’ve gone mad. The grey-green lenses are no laughing
matter either, mind you. This could be the confidence
builder and intimidating factor you have been searching for!
Little controversy has been made about these contact
lenses, but perhaps that is because they are still virtually new.
It is true, of course, that not every athlete playing college
sports can afford them. There’s always the question of the
haves and have-nots when it comes to college sports, and I’m
sure the question of whether they should be allowed in sanctioned events will be debated eventually.
If professional athletes such as Ken Griffey Jr are
singing the praises of these lenses, surely they must work,
right? Tough to say, according to college coaches. Since these
contact lenses are relatively new, there really isn’t a study to
prove the effects of them. So as it stands now, you can wear
your NIKE MAXSIGHT lenses and maybe you’ll see the ball
better. But you can bet your opponent will be psyched out
when he sees you!
So live it up if you have the dough, fellow jocks!
Why not give them a try? It’s something else mom and dad
can buy you for your sport of choice. And if they are proven
to enhance your game, why the heck not?

I’m a 23-year-old college student at
Dutchess Community College.
I plan to graduate in May 2008 and transfer to either SUNY New Paltz or
Dominican College to pursue an English teaching career. I also work full-time for
an insurance company as a Business Analyst II. In my free time I enjoy playing
with my new puppy, shopping for the latest trends, and snowboarding.

Dress Up
Check him out when he is trying on the
hottest new jeans. Get a little closer by
pretending to need to adjust something
that will take you into the dressing room
with him. Then, get those jeans off of
him so that you can take advantage of
what’s underneath. Want to dress up his
imagination a bit before hand? Try talking
dirty on your way to the mall, and subtly
drop reminders to him while you are shopping. His juices will be flowing, and he’ll be
ready to pounce in no time.

There is nothing like taking advantage of every day chores to make
your mind spin. If your laundry
room is public, put a sign on the
door saying out-of-service, and then
get dirty while your clothes get
clean. Pop the quarters in, jump on
top, and be sure to lean back for a little
extra kick when the machine hits the spin
cycle.
Touchdown!
Every guy loves the idea of winning the
game. Surprise him with a one-on-one
game at the football field, and let him score

Fashion trends often come and go; some
fleeting, some long and painstaking; and some
that will never go away.
Certain trends, we all just deal with. Some
make us roll our eyes. Others we embrace with
open arms. Point in case: Thank Goodness for
the 1850's Levi Strauss contribution to the fashion world - where would we be without our good
ol' blue jeans?
Other items do not withstand time so well.

However, it would not be a surprise if these
obscure items did make a comeback into the
world of haute couture. Oversized "Jackie Kennedy Onassis" style sunglasses have been popularized in the years of late by celebrities like
Nicole Ritchie, Lindsay Lohan, and everyone in
between. Long beads of the 1920's flappers era
made a nice little comeback in the past couple
of years. Miniskirts, cowboy boots, gypsy skirts,
and flared jeans are also trends which have been
recycled throughout the decades, along with
vintage-style tees. The Farah Fawcett flip was
re-popularized in the early 2000's, and classic
red lipstick and old Hollywood glamour is continuously heating up the red carpet and is always
acceptable. Even Victorian style jewelry and corsets are mega-popular still today. If one would
try to pinpoint a "style" of the new millenium, it
would be quite hard to do so. Like many things,
what's old is new, and retro is cool again.
The fashions of the 2000's are an eclectic mix
of all decades past. In my opinion, it makes for
a pretty interesting wardrobe, and makes fashion more individual and fun. Being a huge fan

of authentic vintage paired with uber-trendy and
current pieces, my style is a perfect mix of classic and cutting-edge. I often "rock" the trends before they are "trendy" and then retire them when,
"everyone and their mom" is wearing them. For
instance, I've been wearing cowboy boots for as
long as I can remember. I have a pair of Spring
2006 Christian Dior aviator sunglasses that I pair
with a 1969 vintage Pittsburgh Panthers t-shirt,
pink and green Chuck Taylor Converse All Stars,
long beads from a garage sale, and ultra-hip lowrise pants. This is the way our fashion is today. I
can easily pair a hat from Wal-Mart with a $400
handbag and clothes from the Kohl's clearance
rack, and still look like the girls in the magazines.
What's great about fashions is of late is that it is
more accessible to the every day shopper.
Now, this accessibility can be both a positive
and a negative. If you are like me, you grow bored
when everyone is wearing the cheesy shirts with
corny slogans, carrying knock-off Louis Vuitton
bags, and all of the sudden your Mom is wearing the same top as your best friend. Sometimes,
enough is enough when certain trends go mainstream. For example: the damned glitter-ball
sequined purses that look like someone killed
a mermaid to make them. Enough is enough!
They were ugly to begin with, now they are everywhere I look! And the "Blondes/Brunettes
Have More Fun" tees? Get over yourself, ladies.
And if I SEE another "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt,
I might boycott the movie Napoleon Dynamite
forever. And you must love the wannabe punks
- you know, the gals who shop at Hot Topic and
dye their hair purple and black but carry their hot
pink iPod's whlie jamming to Jessica Simpson.
The underage girls at the clubs who dress like
strippers have got to go, too.
The most important thing about fashion is to
just "go with it." Be true to yourself, and don't
be afraid to do your own thing. If your thing is
Abercrombie, fine; but if you'd rather shop at
Goodwill, then good for you. If you like a certain trend, do it. However, if it iss not your style,
ignore it and wait until something better comes
along. Ladies: you do not have to pile on the
trends all at once. One trendy piece at a time is
enough to spice up your wardrobe, and it doesn't
even matter if you are "in style" or not as long
as you are confident and feel comfortable with
yourself. Do not overdo it! It gags me to see the
girl with bleached blonde hair, leggings, Uggs
boots, mini-skirt, with tons of beads, trucker hat,
pale pink lipstick, shimmery blue eyeshadow,
overdone black eyeliner, oversized shades, carrying her fake Prada bag, talking on her pink
Razr phone, and jamming to her iPod nano. Sure,
trends are fun, and fashion is even more fun, but
you DO NOT need to look like a walking collage
of 15 different pages out of "In Style" magazine
all at once. Take it easy! Don't be a walking advertisement for Paris Hilton Wannabes Anonymous! Trends don't HAVE to be fleeting. If you
like a certain trend, embrace it, make it your
own, and you can have it be not just a trend but
your own signature style!
If you want to go out in a hoodie and jeans, do
it. If you want to wear an a-line skirt to class, do it.
There are enough places with dress codes. Do not
let the celebrities in the pages of US Weekly put
even more constraints on your wardrobe. A unique
style all of your own accessorized with confidence
is one trend that should never be laid to rest!

Tastes Good,
Works Great as Makeup!

This was such a fun photo shoot and I think it really shines through in the image. It is
also really fun, full of energy, and color. The photographer called me up and said I
want to do a shoot with candy, what do you think? This is what we created.
I decided on candy confetti as my inspiration for this look. I love the texture
and all the different colors in it. I wanted to showcase them all, both with the
candy and with the makeup.
When I look at a concept I very rarely plan out what I am going to do. I just
start painting and things begin to evolve. Watching them come together is
so exciting for me. I get my best work when I have the freedom to really be
creative and let my mind take me where it wants to go. This is how I arrived
at this look. Let me tell you about what I used to get there.
I began by cleansing the models face with Olay express
cleansing cloths. They are great because they are so portable and you don’t
even need to rinse them. Next I primed her skin with Olay total effects
moisturizer so I have a fresh clean and moisturized palette to begin
painting.
As for the makeup, I started with KETT hydro foundation which
is a water based airbrush foundation used by pros everywhere for
everything from magazines like this to HD TV and more. I used
a combination of cream and powder eye shadows all by Makeup
For Ever. In my opinion they are one of the best pro lines out
there for drama and color. Brushes are really important as well.
Choosing the right tools for the job can make all the difference.
That goes for the makeup we wear at home every day too.
I use a LaPrairie concealer brush along with LaPrairie concealer under her eyes. I have several more of the same
brush to use with my cream shadows (you can’t use the
same brush for pigments and concealer). My favorite
must have eye shadow brushes that I used are the
CHANEL #3, #2, & # 14. The right brushes really help give you control and that is so important
especially when you are working with intense pigments like these. The lipstick is by CHANEL and the
liner and gloss are both by Makeup For Ever. Let me
offer a word of advice. Please stop mashing your lips
together after you apply lipstick and gloss. Not only does
it reduce the shine it can smudge the lip line. It is also a sure
fire way to end up with lip color on your teeth. Just leave it
be, it will look much better and last longer. Last but not least
we come to the real candy on her eye and cheek and viola!
I’d like to take one moment to mention one of the most important things about creating this look for this magazine. It is the energy
between me, the model, & the photographer. That is something you
never really hear about. A great photo needs a great team. And the energy on this team was fantastic!
Let me please take another moment to talk about my favorite accessory. One of the things that is so great about makeup is that it is the ultimate
accessory, it is limitless. Don’t be dominated by rules! Use an eye liner as a
lipliner; use a lipstick as a cream eye shadow. Use candy, it is all good. Please don’t ever
say “I could never wear red or I just can’t wear pink” Yes you can! There is a shade for
everyone, you may not have found it yet but how lame is the rest of your life going to be
if you are paralyzed by fear from a tiny little lip gloss. Next time you are in a department
store do me a favor. Go to the cosmetics department and pick out a lip gloss or something
that you think is totally wild and crazy and put it on. Leave it on for a while, get used to it. I
would say that seventy five percent of the time you will find something new that you really
like. Experiment, have fun, take chances…life is meant to be enjoyed!
